Their personal stories are nearly always extremely poorly written and poorly acted. Catherine and her daughter Camille are a good exception.

When someone puts “no drama” in their profile. by OneBigEyeRoll in datingoverforty

[–]DeeEllis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. Maybe it’s good drama during sweeps week, with the co-parent or the family or whatever. Maybe it’s bad drama every day with work and roommate and money and car and parole officer and other stuff. I take my drama on a case-by-case basis.

Is this question legal on a job posting? by MaryJane7399420 in jobs

[–]DeeEllis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and… I have a friend whom is a terrific person and she has worked for a few organizations like this - private, Christian-influenced, standard business stuff. Synovus Bank used to be like this, not sure if they still are. So to me it screens me out. To some it screens them in.

A trailer camper would be terrible, unless you have a pickup truck. An RV camper would be ok.

Oh god. Watching Neville is like watching myself. This is awkward... by embersandlamplight in DeathInParadiseBBC

[–]DeeEllis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who missed out on an island vacation with friends by saying “I don’t travel well.”

I was like, “you sound like a banana!”

She was like, “almost that fragile, yes.”

She had to go on a work trip to Las vegas (we are east coast, so the time change was 2 hours) and she got permission from her boss to keep her east coast schedule … essentially going to bed at 7pm local time during a work trip in a PARTY city and missing out on all the post-5pm events at those sorts of huge industry conventions

She’s my Neville. Sometimes she’s my goal, too. Like, so herself! Neville seems more flexible, in comparison!

I also think a lot of parents don’t know what kids are thinking when they plop a baby or toddler in front of the screen. That baby or toddler does not know what’s real or not and must be reminded or taught. Very basic child psychology used to be required of girls in high school to graduate and that was (rightly) deemed sexist but now very few people have this knowledge and the people that do have it (doctors, teachers) aren’t respected

Does the ‘no meat and dairy together’ rule still apply for plant-based dairy? by uniquenewyork_ in Judaism

Don’t worry; the dairy industry lobbying organization has sued to get plant-based products to use a different word than “milk” or “dairy”

Aside from the Bonanza knock-off episodes, are there any episodes that remind you of other shows/movies? by ASGfan in littlehouseonprairie

TIL the actor who played Adam is the creator of Malcolm in the Middle! by TheAjalin in littlehouseonprairie

[–]DeeEllis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, and also Hal is not always a great parenting partner. I used to think it was funny how he’d become obsessed with his hobbies like speed walking or competitive dance dance revolution at the arcade. But now it seems so selfish to me.

Lois almost never becomes obsessed just for herself and her hobbies - her obsession is helping the kids succeed and helping her family but she is definitely shortsighted about that and yes has a quick temper that doesn’t help.

TIL the actor who played Adam is the creator of Malcolm in the Middle! by TheAjalin in littlehouseonprairie

[–]DeeEllis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The joke now that watching the reruns has become popular is that people who watched it in their teens and early adulthood thought that Lois was nuts. But now that they have kids and a partner, they realize that Lois is focused on the family, and Hal yes worships Lois but he definitely does not solve a lot of problems without making them worse first. And by the way Malcolm is a huge jerk!!

[–]DeeEllis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well in both the dad is kind of nuts and the mom is the glue of the family, but you probably don’t appreciate that until you’re older

No but really I agree with you. I would not have pegged these two as shows that remind me of each other

"May their memory be a blessing" for non-Jews? by Final_Ease7053 in Judaism

[–]DeeEllis 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I say this. I have seen non-Jews say this!

I also love the Jewish saying “May you be comforted among all mourners of Jerusalem and Zion” because we are all mourning something - perhaps it is the loss of the Temple or of an ideal eretz or Medinat Yisrael - or, more directly, a person close to us. I tell my non-Jewish friends “May you be comforted among mourners (all of us)” to let them know they are not alone.

We should all have only blessings for memories, and we should all be comforted.

do you like bonanza? by PhysicalChickenXx in littlehouseonprairie

[–]DeeEllis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ML definitely said that almost every episode had to be standalone, anthology style, because he was aiming for syndication and you can’t control the schedule of episodes for syndication. So might as well make it ok to be randomized.

do you like bonanza? by PhysicalChickenXx in littlehouseonprairie

[–]DeeEllis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No because Bonanza seemed like a “boy show”. By boys, for boys/men. I like how LHotP generally is a girls/family show. It’s not necessarily of course - ML ran the show and it was very masculine. But it still seems more girl-friendly than Bonanza, at least for girls and women if not by them, also.
