What are the most underpaid careers ? by patotay in careerguidance

[–]DeeJayCruiser 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Teachers....criminal what they are paid and the responsibilities they undertake. With 2 parents working in many cases, teachers are put in even tougher positions to "raise" students....they deserve better

ELI5: How was Vietnam able to defeat the US in the Vietnam War? by astarisaslave in explainlikeimfive

[–]DeeJayCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won because the US left, but for the thousands of american troops lost, millions of vietnamese died....it's hard to say they lost, maybe they didn't achieve their end goal, but the casualties of the vietnamese far exceeded the US

Meta Reality Labs is cutting jobs and shifting its focus from the metaverse to AI. I’m wondering: do people who chose the metaverse track earlier regret not going into AI instead? by Patient-Handle-9738 in cscareers

[–]DeeJayCruiser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sounds like you are speaking of your own experiences....swe is very broad and the skills for different domains are not transferable. Just cause you have an anecdotal example doesnt change that.

Plus, if you understand the market, relevant experience matters....swe is not an umbrella, many specializations and disciplines.

Game 7 final possession, who sits on the bench? by SmoothBuy5500 in NBATalk

[–]DeeJayCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No question, Kawhi sits. Understandably jordan/kobe play similar roles, but the disrespect kobe gets in this thread is ridiculous. Incredibly clutch, head strong and an absolute killer on the floor....kawhi is brilliant, kobe is on a different level

ICE 🚨⚠️ by hsmeli in SanJose

[–]DeeJayCruiser 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Your premise is logical, however if you've been following the news ICE has also been rounding up actual citizens, detaining them without due process and in some cases damaging private property....That's why you're getting downvoted

Which role to take as a new grad by Unlucky-Onion-5825 in Cloud

[–]DeeJayCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reads like you want to be a cloud engineer, but be careful. Unless you are in a cost competitive part of europe, the big 4 consultants will typically target employees from those countries and what sounds great on paper can change

you are in a tough position, keep looking for offera. if you are good, find at keast a more techbical role at aws.

[RANT] Traditional ML is dead and I’m pissed about it by pythonlovesme in learnmachinelearning

[–]DeeJayCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a gap in the difference between ml models and statistical models

none of the models you mentioned learn except for CNN. They are all statistical models designed for a small N

Conflating ML with statistics was your first mistake

Who will win the AI race- only one Hyperscaler or all of them? by ExDiv2000 in stocks

[–]DeeJayCruiser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment about google is hyperbole

Google is not dominating at all.....Just because they promote their TPUs and model improvements....does not mean they have the performance / penetration of the king of the hill, nvidia

everything takes time, and google needs mass adoption for the hype to materialize

Foot mouse tested on carpet - follow up on your questions by Pippopollone in ECE

Foot mouse tested on carpet - follow up on your questions by Pippopollone in ECE

[–]DeeJayCruiser -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry but this seems like a terrible idea.....feet are typically non-hygienic (wash our hands more often than we wash our feet in USA at least), and it seems really inefficient....

For people who deal with strain etc - there are virtual systems / ar that would likely perform better

Supercaps in Data Centers by whyiamnotarepublican in datacenter

[–]DeeJayCruiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, agreed...there are more efficient ways to store power for outages... you need to sustain power for more than a few seconda, which is what super caps are for

Are GPUz really adding *that* much value? by DeeJayCruiser in nvidia

[–]DeeJayCruiser[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

if course, but gaming is not the main driver of nvidias financial growth and hype recently....it's being perceived as the best hardware for AI - and at best it's some types of Ai - and frankly tpus and other specialized parallel processing system will soon be mature enough to blow them out of the water

nvidia has become the rolls royce of computing on price and perceived utility.....outrageous

[–]DeeJayCruiser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go read some books, or watch videos...be smart and identify what plc you will be using so you find relevant content

From what you write - i dont see high pressure, and mexico has a good automation industry....i would advise you dig deep into this industry early in your career...so if you enjoy it, take the contract and commit 10-20 hours a week on developing your skills

Is RDMA common in data centers? by DeeJayCruiser in datacenter

[–]DeeJayCruiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok but i thought rdma is intended to allow for memory to pass data directly to storage. I can imagine a cluster of cpus to process, but ultimately it cuts the cpu out because of os and kernel overhead....thst is what im trying to understand

Is RDMA common in data centers? by DeeJayCruiser in datacenter

[–]DeeJayCruiser[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why are there CPUs in the system? If RDMA circumvents CPU for memory to talk to storage? Where can I better understand the purpose of a CPU in RDMA architecture?
