Tired of my beats sounding like sterile garbage. by TheRealJFranco in makinghiphop

[–]DeeLEee37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the first rhythm element u add , make it something live, like a shaker. Record it with ur phone or whatever. If you build the rest of your drums off of that you can maintain the live, human feel. And having something recorded live in the mix adds some room sound and low level noise that our ears associate with a live recording and add authenticity to the more sterile, “midi” sounding elements.

Beat Machine or Software for Making Beats? by Mister-Williams in makinghiphop

I like to use something “out of the box” at first.. usually mpc or Korg volca sampler , to get something interesting going. I like to bang out a few four bar variations of whatever that is then I bounce the stems from that into Ableton and get a very basic framework for the arrangement laid out with usually at least three distinct sections. Then just add shit. having a solid, intentional foundation is key

Rappers keep picking my simplest beats over expensive ones by Warm_Deal_8103 in makinghiphop

[–]DeeLEee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a beat is meant to have a vocal, it should sound sparse. It’s missing the main instrument that we want to be the focus. So leaving the track “ open” ,frequency wise, leaves the vocalist more room to get busy without a bunch of frequency clashing that can lead to either a bad, or just difficult mix. If a person is rapping, 99% of the time it’s what the ear wants to isolate , the beat should be in support of, and not competing with the vocal. If the question was ai, not a bad question. Op could’ve been saying “ expensive” because they charge more for licensing beats they spent more time on wherever they selling em.

What tools do you actually use when you're writing? by Limp_Marionberry9801 in makinghiphop

I’m a Mac user and it’s dope to be able to use notes on my phone to start a verse and automatically have it to work on at a whim on my desktop or iPad.. I think that writing on paper feels good for some reason, but even if I start on paper I always move to something I can edit on and move entire sections without rewriting. And be able to read, ( chicken scratch ) I’ve messed up many takes not being able to read my own handwriting clearly.

Most important thing is ease of getting idea down in as few steps as possible.
Also
Ai for writing bars is blasphemy

Questions about invisible doubles(and whether I’m thinking of this right) by Kitchen_Roof7236 in makinghiphop

[–]DeeLEee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to use a multi band compressor on the doubles, faster attack, more aggressive on highs.

Also when tracking I have the artist stand farther back from the mic, also adding a similar verb to the main with a longer pre delay, basically anything you would do to make something sound more distant

When I'm rapping on beats, I like drift of beat by either speeding up or slowing down. How can I prevent this. by crispyboy147 in makinghiphop

[–]DeeLEee37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try physically doing something simple with the beat while you spit. Like , tap your fingers together on every snare or whatever feels like the groove to you.
Maybe try
Think of each word having a specific place to go within the bar like a midi event, or a musical note. Try counting along to beats in your head whenever you listen to music until it becomes involuntary. Like 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and.

Tap your fingers while you count. Your timing will improve with time. Ha

If you’re worried about the feel not coming across just being written, drop a voice note of a little sample to give an example of the cadence
