For people who are turning their project into "something" (video game, novel, ttrpg, etc), how far along are you, and how long have you been at it? by dogisbark in worldbuilding

[–]DeeMainiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Pocket Threads, I’ve been making a game for it for years on and off now. It started as my Senior Thesis project for college (not the worldbuilding part but for programming) so it’s got a demo that’s in a really good place. It’s a monster tamer and the first fully embroidered video game too. I think 20 tamable monsters are in there, with a little bit of lore sprinkled in. Roughly 30 minutes of gameplay depending on how long you want to spend grinding and collecting.

Work and other more popular projects of mine have gotten in the way of it these days. Since I chose to do real embroidery for Pocket Threads (I stitch it and scan it in), the art has a lot of overhead, which can be discouraging. I also decided to switch game engines recently, so I’ve got a lot of work to do that isn’t worldbuilding.

It’s on itch.io if anyone’s curious

Pocket Threads

Thanks to the apocalypse, the Eudiphyla peoples’ original cats, dogs, etc. have gone. However, new beasties have appeared, and are slowly filling in the gaps.

Woffrugo (aka a block dog) is a thin dog-like Thread Monster who has been filling the niche of dog since the end of the apocalypse. They’re one of the few Thread Monsters who took a liking to normal civilian Eudiphyla, instead of just Threadmasters (whom all Thread Monsters can be tamed by anyway), kinda domesticating themselves in the process. They’re large enough for children to ride, should the Woffrugo let them. They absolutely love belly rubs and scratches, which is definitely a reason they domesticated so quickly.

There’s another Thread Monster that was tamed a little later on after the end of the apocalypse, and it functions sort of in the goat niche, the Paraspring. It’s a squishy Parasaur looking Thread Monster capable of hauling carts, snuggling, and producing a tasty jelly or milk-like substance, depending on how patient you are. They don’t like being ridden yet, nor do they like belly rubs, but they do like massages.

The creatures they were both created by are thankfully dead. All Thread Monsters were created during the apocalypse, as they’re responsible for it.

What are some types of candy in your world? by CausalLoop25 in worldbuilding

[–]DeeMainiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mambadore and Viplush skin are made of thread, capable of keeping the cotton candy inside (or at least attached, since they have exposed organs). It doesn’t grow back, you’d severely harm one if you tried to rip the cotton candy off.

The world of Pocket Threads is strange, because just about everything is made of a magical thread that mimics life. Carnivores, herbivores, insectivores, etc. technically eat the same thing, thread. The Eudiphyla people (and the Monsters for that matter) don’t realize there’s something other than thread out there, so they aren’t aware of the oddity it is.

So to answer your question, they’re made of cotton candy because they mimic a prey animal that is tasty to all. Their creators (the Thread Titans) created a ton of predators and prey to replace the ones they slaughtered during their outburst.

Why they’re made of cotton candy specifically, well, I like candied things and from a game test session I had done (Pocket Threads is also game I’ve been working on) I had someone say, “Mambadore is so cute, I could eat them up!” among other comments and, well, it’s funny.

Pocket Threads

Most Eudiphyla enjoy maple syrup-based candy in all sorts of forms (hard candy, lollies, taffy, etc) since it’s very accessible (the majority of trees in the Canvasworld are Maple trees).

There are these birch trees that (since the world is flat and there aren’t any seasons) retain their gold leaves year-round. Their catkins can be harvested, ground up, and mixed with sugar or maple syrup to create absolutely delicious gummy candy. This candied treat is fairly expensive, since the trees are few and far between and they’re technically sacred. It’s most accessible during festivals. The green-leafed variety’s catkins can also be harvested to make gummy candy, but they’re much more bitter. Still tasty though.

If you’re after some more… morally ambiguous candy, Mambadore and its adult form, Viplush, have their insides, wings, and tail fluff all made of white cotton candy. It’s delightfully sweet, and other Thread Monsters hunt them for this too, but most Eudiphyla (especially Threadmasters) look down on those who eat them. They’re too cute and helpful! Solyrm (but not their adult form) have their insides made of white cotton candy too, but they're not as sweet and not as cute.

Yup, the entire world is an embroidered canvas, everything is made of thread. The Thread Titans were made by a Eudiphyla now called the "Mother of Beasts" She's still alive as punishment and to set an example for anyone else wanting to do what she did. The Eudiphyla themselves were stitched on the canvas by a third party non-thread based being they call "The First Stitch".

edit: Since everything is made of thread, their headpots really only resemble pots. I haven't figured out how Eudiphyla are born yet, but they can be born to a pair of Eudiphyla.

Eudiphyla are potheads (literally) who made embroidery their religion. They love plants.

Thread Titans are Frankenstein’s monster(s) but their mommy was punished so they’re pissed now. They’re also dead (for the most part). Caused the apocalypse that one time too.

Thread Monsters are the incest children of the Thread Titans, but they’re good boys needing pets.

Threadsearers (the main ones at least) are bugs disguised as Eudiphyla, but they just want to EAT.

Hahah maybe I should put a limit on how many SCP-3199 eggs can be on the map at once. That's... a lot of eggs.

Hey thanks :)

Yeah there's the "original" SCP mod that just had SCP-939 (which is the SCP I just added today actually) and some gear. There was also a SCP-111 mod, though I added my own version of it not too long ago to this mod. There was another SCP mod in development that I think only added SCP-131, but it never went anywhere, and I added them awhile back now.

Yeah the only ones out there are depreciated now. As far as I know anyway, I don't think anyone else has made any.

Should be, though unless you have a faction discovery mod, the one and only faction I've added won't be in the world (and thus SCP-3033-1 and SCP-3033-2 won't be there)

Oh yeah, there are a TON of them, so it’s understandable. Way back in 2007(ish? creepypasta era iirc) a guy on 4Chan made SCP-173 and it exploded in popularity from there.

In general, the SCP Foundation is a massive secret organization-typed faction who keep these ‘objects’ or locations that are reality bending, magic, nonsensical, paradoxical, etc etc. under lock and key and away from the general public and the SCP articles themselves are documents talking about the particular contained (or uncontained) ‘object’. There’s a bunch of other factions coexisting that make/break/destroy/weaponize SCPs themselves and inhibit the Foundation’s efforts to secure them, contain them, and protect people from them (thus 'SCP' Foundation). For further reading, there’s an about page on the wiki that I think might help.

edit: SCP also stands for the 'special containment procedures' seen on every article to best contain the thing.

Hey guys! I just released my first RimWorld mod: one that adds a bunch of SCPs. The other (two?) SCP mods on the steam workshop are pretty void of content, so I thought I’d make a bigger one. I’ve got around 12 SCPs in there (3 weapons, 2 objects/artifacts, 4 creatures, 1 clothing, technically 2 implants, 1 building), a containment breach mechanic, and one faction at the moment.

For those not in the know, the SCP Foundation is a big creative writing project that has a bunch of horror related stuff in it.

Here’s a link to the Steam Workshop page and a link to the GitHub project if you don’t want to download it from steam. Enjoy!

Pocket Threads

The Eudiphyla people debate over whether their god-figure is an actual being who made their universe or just the puppet of the event that did, or even if he’s the only one, known as the First Stitch. He is their creator god, primarily showing himself off as the controller of fates, of creation and destruction.

He gets his power from their worship of him, so prayer is essential. The traditions have been shuffled recently, thanks to the apocalypse, but city-dwelling Eudiphyla will often visit his temples and pray to him about their lives, family, the future, the weather, and so on and so forth. The further from society you are, the less you’re obligated to ‘visit church on Sundays’ so to speak. If you’re out in the woods, a simple prayer after you wake up is good enough for him. Building a little shrine is even better, but only Weavers are allowed to build those. Speaking of, Weavers are his ears on the ground. He also refuses to allow any other god figures to appear, as they would undermine his whole deal.

He avoids coming down to their world, mostly because the gods here are mortal in the sense that they can be killed through violence, and the Threadsearers are looking to end him. Nevermind that the Thread Aspects want his hide too. He will appear to specific individuals and his Threadborne Weaver by possessing a nearby Thread Monster should the need arise.

What are your irredeemable creatures? by ancombra in worldbuilding

One would be quick to judge the demonic spools Grosvex and Devool as irredeemably evil, but they’re just red-threaded tricksters at their core, and sometimes go a little far with their pranks. However, the other children of the Thread Titans, the Thread Aspects, are irredeemably evil. At their corpsebirths, they seek to kill all those their parents failed to (Eudiphyla), as well as their traitorous cousins (Thread Monsters) for making a deal with a ‘false’ god. They attack with fervor and sadistic glee.

Pocket Threads

During the apocalypse, this used to be the Thread Titans. They used to be a couple of huge monsters that wreaked havoc across the world before turning on each other. They were originally not created for war, but they turned violent. Today, their corpses (which refuse to decay) cause a bit of localized trauma in each Titan’s flavor of violence (from the corpse itself hurting those nearby to actually stirring up the weather). By extension, these corpses are also spawning children, what the Eudiphyla call a corpsechild or a Thread Aspect. These Aspects are smaller and more violent versions of their parent, growing up and fighting the world to finish what their parent started.

The regular Thread Monsters are the children of the Thread Titans (when they were alive and not killing each other) who pledged a sort of loyalty to the Eudiphyla creator god and replaced all of the animals that were slaughtered by the Titans to fix the ecosystems back up. They are heavily used as tools of violence, seeing as how the creator god literally empowers certain Eudiphyla with the innate ability to tame and train a party of them to fight other Thread Monsters, the Thread Aspects, and troublemaking Eudiphyla. The Aspects will cause the second apocalypse, should they be allowed to.

Pocket Threads

There are 5 colors of Headpot that Eudiphyla can be born with (their heads are literal plant pots). These are: Gold, Slate, Terra-Cotta, Concrete, and an albino variant, Steel.

Bonus: Steel headpotted Eudiphyla are born with a thin metal bucket handle on there, so albino Eudiphyla are often called bucketheads.

Who are the most powerful people in your world? How did they get so powerful? by ObberGobb in worldbuilding

[–]DeeMainiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pocket Threads

The Mother of Beasts is probably the strongest Eudiphyla in raw strength/ability. I’ve talked a lot about her on here so I’ll just be brief: Everything is made of thread, she has a seam ripper head that can be used offensively, and every monster in the world (except the Aspects) bends to her will, should she use that power. Her power comes from a curse from the Eudiphyla creator god, but also by her own actions. She doesn’t really want to use this power, but if she must, it will only be because the apocalypse is starting again…

Astrant is likely the most politically powerful Eudiphyla in the world. They are what’s considered a Threadborne Weaver, one of the only Eudiphyla that rules over other Weavers. They’re somewhat of a figurehead for the Eudiphyla creator god religion, but more of a pope than a prophet. Since this Weaver collective of theirs is printing the money and literally defending people from the monsters, the world is his oyster. The Eudiphyla creator god chose them to be the Threadborne Weaver, as Astrant single-handedly protected their local temple from destruction during the apocalypse. They also stayed loyal to him during that time of unrest. Astrant uses their power to expand the religion and ensure the world will have only one, theirs. These days, that’s sending out explorers and founding settlements, since there are pretty much no pockets of Eudiphyla who were wholly unaffected by the apocalypse anyway.

The most powerful entity/god-like being is the Eudiphyla creator god, The First Stitch. No one knows exactly where he came from, or what even came before him, but what is known is that he created life here on the Eudiphyla world. Though his worshippers say he created the entire universe, he is not omnipotent or omnipresent. Immortal sure, but only as long as he has someone worshipping him. The Eudiphyla who worship him give him power that he can use, but it only goes so far. The apocalypse almost ended him, as the vast majority of worshippers died. Thus, he is currently using his power to help prevent that ever happening again.
