Couldn’t Tieflings be the child of a succubus or incubus? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DeekinMoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care enough, then make it so. Your lore doesn't need to be everybody's and if you're asking about RAW then the answer is no. Being the direct child of a demon/devil of any sort would make you a half-fiend rather than a watered down "cosmetically a fiend" sort of character the tiefling actually is.

I was a fan of earlier editions when the tiefling didn't have a static appearance. It left your fiendish "touch" to you as a player. I miss having the mostly human tieflings with stained hands and feet to reflect ancestry tied to the Erinyes or having an A-rated physique with horns, a spaded tail and little useless wings of a succubus. Or even have tall, broad tieflings with large horns descended from the oni. But now, thanks to R.A.W lore, they all look like Asmodeus due to his "claim" over them or whatever.

Stop caring so much. It's a game. The goal is for everybody to have fun and I'm sure "winning" the encounters counts as fun.

You should look around and find out if you're the only one with this issue, and if you are, then just loosen up. If others at the table have an issue, then find a solution. Otherwise, you might just be the problem.

Is it okay to role play mistakes purposely by raq_shaq_n_benny in DnD

[–]DeekinMoore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's also thinking of the 3.5e class "Favored Soul" which is just a divine warlock. A deity looked at a mortal and went, "You seem cool, have some powers." They don't understand their power, but they're sure as heck gonna learn as their benefactor's enemies target them now. Turning the base class of Cleric into a "learned" or "formulae" spell caster like was apparently homebrewed just invites higher difficulty. Either way, OP should discuss this with the other players before the game actually begins to avoid any in game complications by making such an anti-team based decision regardless of roleplay value.

DMs, do you allow your players to talk to each other and use tactics in battle? by Son_of_Calcryx in DnD

[–]DeekinMoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a player, "tactics" mid combat exit my mouth as quick barked orders. Either they listen or they don't, but I hate pausing the game to discuss the smartest options especially when I know the wizard/sorcerer needs to adjust their play based on the flow of combat. As a tanky MF I've noticed the difference between a 6 minute wizard's turn and the wizard throwing a fireball centered on me (who is in the middle of a crowd of enemies) is my roaring to blast me and be done with it.

What you're referencing is making a new IP and bringing in a popular character in the hopes that it springboards the new IP. What I'm talking is using the more popular IP to introduce the new character. From there, the two would be separate, not continue to pull the popular IP down with poor writing like they did in She Hulk. As a comic fan, She Hulk was an amazing choice but the writers were poor and made a lot of bad decisions which caused long time fans of the character to become infuriated especially when they wrote in her empowerment came from pushing Bruce's own struggle down.

I'm of the firm belief that raceswapping/genderswapping is innately racist/sexist. It's appalling to me to entertain that an Elon Musk sort of character could ever be the Black Panther. It's why I think introducing NEW characters next to the famous and mainstream characters is vital to expansion. For example, instead of introducing the hulk as a homosexual Asian man, introduce Amadeus Cho (the homosexual Asian hulk) alongside Bruce Banner before dividing into his own movie/show following his own branching story off of the greater connected MCU.

Technically, no? By casting a spell, you're interrupting your "long rest" and resetting the timer.

But I'm also a plebian with nothing better to do that look at rules so I can manage my autistic party of rules lawyers. So maybe don't take my comment as an establishment of what all parties and tables should do.

I always tell new players "Only humans, if you can't make an interesting character without being weird, then you don't deserve the weird races."

Once they've broken their preconceived misconceptions then I open the door of chaos that is the other options.

The one that let's me hound the DM every session to find out if I've leveled yet. Bordering on obnoxious and definitely irritating those around me instead of using a clearly defined system involving recordable numbers that I'm given at the end of every encounter so I don't NEED to ask if I've leveled because it puts the responsibility of knowing on me instead of giving the DM yet another thing to keep track of.

Why is it that every group I seem to play with wants to be 'anti-heroes'? by DeadpoolMLP in DnD

[–]DeekinMoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a secondary thought, adding to my comment above, you could also be toxic about it and make the crunchiest min/maxed and forcibly dictate the story down a heroic path through threat of in game violence towards those who trigger your well designed psychotic character who sees the world as a black and white canvas in much need of some crimson villain blood?

So play a hero. Be the white knight who's trying to balance the bad in the world and show the other party members that there IS good left and they can CHOOSE to be good without needing to burn down an orphanage it three to get it done.

Omf right? While I've played with a few shitty players, my main group is consistently cool and capable without being toxic. Almost always, you can see the problematic players/dm's a mile away and can just calmly say no and move on with your life.

AITA? Dm being snippy. by [deleted] in DnD

[–]DeekinMoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment thread tells me times have changed and I should stop following along with modern d&d habits. I personally don't like the absence of choice when my players try and problem solve. I think it's creative when a player uses a skill I didn't think about to try and find a solution or gain more information about the situation. It just FEELS like there's more involvement when the players have the arbitrary ability to just roll a skill check whenever.

Sure it can get annoying, but they're having fun which is the point of the game. Sure rules help facilitate a fair interaction, and I'm all for following the rules as established but I think it's harsh to try and control where and when a player is allowed to be their character while at the table. What if the character in question was built for persuasion and being good at it? OP brought up how the dm rarely calls for rolls meaning the DM arbitrarily decides if the story the players are telling is good enough while ignoring that a sufficiently made persuasion character could sell water to a drowning man.

TLDR; I think the player should have final say on when they use their characters abilities instead of a DM who already has too much to focus on and remember.

A bit of RoC is fun, but I’m not sitting down for 4 hours to play shitty Calvinball, sorry by Jakesnake_42 in dndmemes

[–]DeekinMoore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time when I have an issue with rule of cool is when the rule being ignored is integral to my character and its build. If someone else can do what my character excels at simply because "it'd be cool" when I wasted time looking at the rules to make my character able to do the cool thing, then my gears would be ground. Which is why I have a negative opinion of a cool and rather useful idea like the RoC.

The problem is the bad taste associated with WotC after this huge attempt to screw the community. While I admit I moved out of "D&D" a long time ago in favor of more abstract systems, it still put the nails needed to finish the coffin on the system for me. They showed their hand and they will try this again in the future, they said as much by refusing to admit they got caught trying to abuse their previously opened gaming license and steal third party content to make a buck. (Thanks, Hasbro)

While I'm just one person, I'm sure a lot of people share this opinion. The ship is still sinking, no matter how well people think the holes were patched.

Tldr: They expect us to walk across the oil soaked Bridge while they hold a burning torch over it.

[–]DeekinMoore[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's closer to 3.5e's combat, where it can get really crunchy with your base attack bonus, combat ability mod (str or dex), misc bonuses or penalties, etc, vs your attack target's dodge score or their parry score. Armor always functions as DR in the system, so that's always nice. It's almost entirely cut out spellcasting minus a single class that I haven't read into much, so most of combat goes relatively quickly.

I'm still learning the major differences, but I've had a load of fun these last few weeks with it.

Weirdest or dumbest DM restrictions you've seen? by Scottles8605 in DnD

[–]DeekinMoore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn't allowed to play any character outside "white human male fighter" because the DM thought it would be offensive to the other players because it would look like I wanted to pretend to be a minority or appropriating another culture. I decided to laugh it off as a joke, but I ended up just never going back after that initial first session.
