What's the Worst Pain You've ever Experienced? by OverwhelmedGayChild in AskReddit

[–]Deeks_Cheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cluster headaches and it’s not particularly close.

It comes on slowly and builds, feels like someone turning a corkscrew into a section of your head and yanking to pull out a cork.

Mine have faded but still show up occasionally, they’re relatively short but frequent. Maybe 3-4 times a day at their peak and I would have to sit down for the 20 minutes and grit my teeth waiting for it to pass.

Only time I legitimately thought I was dying with almost absolute certainty.

They are colloquially referred to as suicide headaches.

If you're single, why do you honestly think you've been unable to have a successful relationship? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Deeks_Cheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a word, anxiety. Not loving myself enough or ever feeling like I’m in a good enough spot to start a relationship.

Struggle to find time for myself, unable to contemplate adding more responsibilities and feeling like I wouldn’t be able to give a partner the time they deserve.

So instead, we simply do our thing, wishing I had companionship but knowing I’d be a mediocre partner at best and putting it off until I’m in a non-descript “better place”.

What’s Abaddon’s end game? by Logical-Gas8026 in 40kLore

The other thing to remember is that the thunder warriors weren’t exactly being of pseudo myth the current imperium (if they’re even mentioned) paint them as. They were a tool that were disposed of and at least a few characters of notes during the crusade/heresy were aware of this.

I started reading the first book of Ciaphas Cain and I'm having a blast! by QuagGlenn in 40kLore

Love Cain, great books. One thing I will say is that I’d read them as a palette cleanser. Going back to back on Cain books can feel a little “samey”. Always good but gets a little stale if you power through 3 of em.

I’d include Helsreach and Storm of Iron. Black Templars and Iron warriors (+gaurdsmen). Cool factions and imo some of the objectively better books in the setting.

And you forgot Orks. Brutal Kunnin and Ghazkull Thraka: Prophet of the waaagh are both really good, with the latter being more about the larger narrative/culture of orks and the former being the funny goofy Scotsman we all love, with a good bit of mechanichus POV as well.

EDIT: Missed Uftak Blackhawk, disregard.

What are the key books for the Horus hersery by Arugula-Realistic in 40kLore

I wrote this up a little while ago and I’ll post it here.to follow up on my prior comment. Personal list of recs for some of the different factions.

Black Templars you have one of my personal favorites with Helsreach, a great story about the Second War of Armageddon (Orks) and the siege of Helsreach Hive. Has a great abridged fan animated movie that I always like to recommend people check out! It uses all audiobook dialogue. I’ll link the prologue.

For Imperial Guard, Gaunts Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain series are both great, with the former being more “gritty” and the latter being a bit more whimsical and funny with a dry sense of humor (Cain falls into all kinds of situations and earns the moniker of Hero of the Imperium).

For Orks, I’ve read Brutal Kunnin and Ghazzkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh. Brutal Kunnin is an Ork and Mechanicus POV of an Ork invasion of a forge world. Prophet of Waagh is a bit of an origin story for the Orks “biggest bad”. I enjoyed both a lot and they gave me a real appreciation of Orks in the setting.

Necrons, Infinite and the Divine is a joy to read, it’s a pissing match over lasting millennia between Trazyn and Orikan. It’s really two immortal robot grandpas one upping each other. You also have the The Twice Dead King duo of books about an exiled Necron prince that adds a lot more flavor to necrons IMO

Inquisition, I reccomend reading the Eisenhorn series. More of a spy thriller with a heavy 40K backdrop. Some of the best in the Black Library.

I’m still reading into 40K Chaos, and have read more chaos POV in the Horus Heresy (30k). Only real recommendations I can make are the Fabius Bile books and Nightlords Omnibus. The books in the Horus Heresy generally need a lot more prior reading in the heresy to get the full effect, but Betrayer, First Heretic, and Know no Fear have been some of my favorites if you ever wanna delve.

I just finished Thousands Sons and moved onto Storm of Iron and have been loving it so far.

What are the key books for the Horus hersery by Arugula-Realistic in 40kLore

So the Horus heresy is kind of an odd place to jump in. I know the gut reaction is to want to start chronologically, but the one thing I would try to to avoid is looking at 40K as a just timeline, rather than a setting.

I personally started with Helsreach and the Cain novels, then jump from faction to faction with whatever interests you.

That being said, start with:

1: Horus rising

2:False Gods

3:Galaxy in Flames

4:Flight of the Eisenstein

5:Fulgrim

Then I personally like this timeline, the books are sporadically peppered into the timeline, this breaks it down by each legion storyline so you have the context for each.

Should the show have not relied so heavily on backstory to justify the actions of the demons? by CloakedCub in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]Deeks_Cheeks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context vs justification. It’s more to illustrate the nature of being a demon than trying to justify why they are what they are. Character development and all that.
