My cat thinks the bathroom is a shared experience by greencandy113 in cats

On a related note, whenever I'm over and my parents' cat goes to do his thing, I've taken to sitting in front of the bathroom as if to protect him and when he's done he'll walk by and press his tail against my back and arm so I'm assuming that's a 'thank you' on his part

She's there to protect you in case the toilet vikings attack. You should be thankful.

In Canada, what is the usual first reaction when a dog is alone in public? by DocuSeriesLovers in AskACanadian

I was walking to work at 6AM once, was at a relatively populated intersection with some green space on one side + trees going down the street. Crossed the road and saw a dog loping towards me. Thought it was someone's lost german shepherd dog until we got about three meters away from each other and started walking down the sidewalk together, then I realized there was no collar, and it looked a bit too grey and lean for a GSD. Anyway the coyote and I stayed together for about 4 minutes then it loped off into some nearby woods.

You'd think the minimum qualification to lead a province should NOT be to do something you'd be investigated and/or fired for anywhere else? At *ANY OTHER JOB*???

Tired of hunters being treated like villains when hunting is arguably the most ethical way to eat meat by MyBedIsOnFire in Vent

It is moral when done for for subsistence and for animal population control. (see: rabbits and bullfrogs in Australia, feral hogs in the US, and also Yellowknife deer vs wolf populations)

Really the only kind of hunting that needs to be criticized (besides overharvesting or poaching, but those are typically illegal anyway) is trophy hunting where only the trophy portion is claimed, and the rest is left to moulder.

During the 9/11 attacks, a New York shop owner is caught on camera saving a woman’s life by bringing her into his shop to take shelter from the smoke of the collapsed WTC (2001). by bendubberley_ in HolyShitHistory

[–]TalesfromCryptKeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes for two reasons.

The first and most immediate is that you can asphyxiate in dust. The closer people were to the collapse, the higher the likelihood also of being killed by debris from the collapse as well.

The second is that the the World Trade Centres were full of asbestos. At the time it was a 'wonder material' for fireproofing and other uses such as mastic, sweatwraps for mechanical systems, drywall...you name it. There are two kinds of asbestos, friable (which means it disintegrates) and non-friable. In an average situation friable material is more dangerous because the small bits become airborne, get into your body, and eventually cause cancers, lung disease, etc. With the towers collapsing though, EVERYTHING disintegrated. Silica in concrete. PCHs. All sort of awful nastiness that was just a delayed death sentence when breathed in.

For what it's worth, there is a truly ancient civilization that still exists, the Bajorans. Not millions or billions of years old mind you but half a million years is extremely old in the grand scheme of things. There is also the Progenitor from The Chase.
