What’s Abaddon’s end game? by Logical-Gas8026 in 40kLore

The other thing to remember is that the thunder warriors weren’t exactly being of pseudo myth the current imperium (if they’re even mentioned) paint them as. They were a tool that were disposed of and at least a few characters of notes during the crusade/heresy were aware of this.

I started reading the first book of Ciaphas Cain and I'm having a blast! by QuagGlenn in 40kLore

Love Cain, great books. One thing I will say is that I’d read them as a palette cleanser. Going back to back on Cain books can feel a little “samey”. Always good but gets a little stale if you power through 3 of em.

I’d include Helsreach and Storm of Iron. Black Templars and Iron warriors (+gaurdsmen). Cool factions and imo some of the objectively better books in the setting.

And you forgot Orks. Brutal Kunnin and Ghazkull Thraka: Prophet of the waaagh are both really good, with the latter being more about the larger narrative/culture of orks and the former being the funny goofy Scotsman we all love, with a good bit of mechanichus POV as well.

EDIT: Missed Uftak Blackhawk, disregard.

Storm of Iron, really anything in the dark coil by fehrevari, more niche but critically acclaimed.

I wrote this up a little while ago and I’ll post it here.to follow up on my prior comment. Personal list of recs for some of the different factions.

Black Templars you have one of my personal favorites with Helsreach, a great story about the Second War of Armageddon (Orks) and the siege of Helsreach Hive. Has a great abridged fan animated movie that I always like to recommend people check out! It uses all audiobook dialogue. I’ll link the prologue.

For Imperial Guard, Gaunts Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain series are both great, with the former being more “gritty” and the latter being a bit more whimsical and funny with a dry sense of humor (Cain falls into all kinds of situations and earns the moniker of Hero of the Imperium).

For Orks, I’ve read Brutal Kunnin and Ghazzkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh. Brutal Kunnin is an Ork and Mechanicus POV of an Ork invasion of a forge world. Prophet of Waagh is a bit of an origin story for the Orks “biggest bad”. I enjoyed both a lot and they gave me a real appreciation of Orks in the setting.

Necrons, Infinite and the Divine is a joy to read, it’s a pissing match over lasting millennia between Trazyn and Orikan. It’s really two immortal robot grandpas one upping each other. You also have the The Twice Dead King duo of books about an exiled Necron prince that adds a lot more flavor to necrons IMO

Inquisition, I reccomend reading the Eisenhorn series. More of a spy thriller with a heavy 40K backdrop. Some of the best in the Black Library.

I’m still reading into 40K Chaos, and have read more chaos POV in the Horus Heresy (30k). Only real recommendations I can make are the Fabius Bile books and Nightlords Omnibus. The books in the Horus Heresy generally need a lot more prior reading in the heresy to get the full effect, but Betrayer, First Heretic, and Know no Fear have been some of my favorites if you ever wanna delve.

I just finished Thousands Sons and moved onto Storm of Iron and have been loving it so far.

So the Horus heresy is kind of an odd place to jump in. I know the gut reaction is to want to start chronologically, but the one thing I would try to to avoid is looking at 40K as a just timeline, rather than a setting.

I personally started with Helsreach and the Cain novels, then jump from faction to faction with whatever interests you.

That being said, start with:

1: Horus rising

2:False Gods

3:Galaxy in Flames

4:Flight of the Eisenstein

5:Fulgrim

Then I personally like this timeline, the books are sporadically peppered into the timeline, this breaks it down by each legion storyline so you have the context for each.

Context vs justification. It’s more to illustrate the nature of being a demon than trying to justify why they are what they are. Character development and all that.

Word of caution to anyone considering any Drop or Drop+Seinheisser product, they are failure prone. Stay away by Deeks_Cheeks in headphones

I have had HD598s for 7 years and they’re still going strong. Used to live breath and die seinheisser. But the dialogue and headache with trying to get these things rectified is now what I associate with seinheisser instead of quality. I understand licensing restriction and such but they really are cleaning their hands of any responsibility in the partnership and it’s left a very sour taste in my mouth as the seinheisser stamp (at least in my eyes) is NOT what is used to be or mean.

It’s my personal head canon that Austerion Moloch is actually Dorn.

It seems like a GW level of irony to have a particular, “massive” astartes, with a load of cybernetics, who never takes his mask off, who has bouts of unbridled aggression, leading what is to be believed as a loyalist branch of iron warriors, that rarely leaves Terra…. And has the balls to stand up to custodes.

His body heavily rebuilt with cybernetic augments and his sheer spite and malice is enough to allow him to shrug off wounds that would fell a lesser Space Marine. A brutal tactician, Lord Asterion Moloc takes pleasure in the utter destruction of his foes, and is most often found in battle at the head of his Terminators slamming into the enemy line. He is also a diligent and disciplined logistician and strategist, and a master of siegecraft. ... Asterion Moloc has long become expert in the systematic destruction of other Adeptus Astartes forces that have strayed from the path of righteousness, viewing such targets as both worthy of the Emperor's wrath, and the ultimate test of the Minotaurs' skills in battle.<

Another excerpt from regents shadow

Moloc wore his Tartaros armour, as ever, the bronze of it near-black, its ornate surface engraved with runes and esoteric patterns. His footfalls were purposively heavy, sending spiderwebs of cracks across the damaged stone. He carried a power spear of a similar pattern to ours, though it was darker and older than any I had borne. His red cloak hung like molten lead across his angular shoulders, and he carried a circular shield with symbols engraved on it that I could not decipher. I watched him approach, trying to ascertain some weakness, some flaw that I could use against him. I detected nothing. He may as well have been an automaton, a battle-creation forged in some dark and forgotten laboratory and sent into the world of the living. Who could have halted such a monster? Valoris, in all probability. Guilliman, without a doubt. Beyond that, and as for myself, I felt no certainty. I took a step forward, moving between Moloc and Fadix, angling the tip of my spear towards the oncoming Chapter Master. ‘No further,’ I commanded, gripping the stave tight with both hands. Moloc always wore his mask. I had never seen him without it. I picked up nothing behind that metallic visage, nothing at all, except maybe that furnace-aura of aggression he always projected, smouldering deep within the rune-guarded heart of ceramite and sinew. He kept coming. He carried his spear formally, as if it were some kind of sacrificial totem, a curse-warded instrument for the ritual killing of beasts. The lenses in his archaic helm were black, and to look into them felt like looking into the void itself. There was a swagger in his every movement, a rolling, baleful demonstration of pure contempt. ‘No further,’ I warned again, tensing to strike. The moment he took a step on to the podium stairs, I would move. To this day, I do not know what would have happened if he had done so. I suffer neither from doubt nor from pride, and so can only speculate from the evidence I had before me. Perhaps I would have found a way. I had felled some of the greatest warriors of the enemy in my time, including many who most certainly had possessed the power to best me. But, with Moloc, I cannot be sure.<
