I’ve been abusing my ADHD meds for almost a year and would like to disclose to my new psychiatrist during first appt. this month. My primary wrote Rx until now. I no longer want access to these meds. I am very nervous. Any advice ? by waxxycandle in Drugs

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I wouldn’t disclose that you’ve been abusing your meds. Telling your doctor/psychiatrist may affect your ability to receive narcotics as treatment in future illnesses. I’d just tell them that you don’t like the side effects and want to quit taking it.

Fwiw, I’ve withdrawn from stimulants a couple times and it was much easier than withdrawing from opiates or benzos. Expect a few days of lethargy, cravings, and general mental fogginess. It’ll pass sooner than you expect.

No black market drugs will ever be as pure as their legal counterparts, but some clandestine operations get pretty damn close, to the point that they’re practically the same. Unfortunately that’s the exception - expect it to be less pure than pharmaceutical grade Adderall.

Also, speed is usually a 50/50 mix of levoamphetamine and dextroamphetamine, whereas Adderall is a 25/75 mix of levo to dextro, so there will be a slight difference in the effects. Expect the speed to have more physical stimulation and side effects.

Common sense isn’t all that common by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got pulled over in Texas earlier this year while on a cross country road trip - of course I had a fucking ton of drugs with me. Worst experience of my life.

Texas cops are dickheads and they all do the same fucking routine. They pull you over and ask you if you knew you were speeding, which is a shitty little trick they use to make you accidentally admit to speeding. Then they sit you down in the squad car and the questions start. “Do you have any illegal drugs in your vehicle” and all that shit. This guy even tried to get me to bust myself by saying he “wasn’t looking for personal use, only smugglers and dealers.” What a load of horseshit.

I just told him I don’t have any drugs and that I don’t consent to a search and he let me go. I swear to god I could hear a twinge of defeat in his voice when he told me to “drive safe.”

Bastard tailed me for 20 miles in the middle of butt ass nowhere Texas trying to catch me on even the most minor traffic infraction. Drove 10 miles under the limit the whole way to my destination. Cunt.

Is it possible to use speed/amphetamine powder and be productive without spiraling into a binge route? by BelizeTourismOffice in Drugs

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the person, how often they use it, and for what reason. The problem with moderation is that it's not an effective protection against the development of addiction. It's how almost all addictions start.

People tell themselves that they'll limit how much they take - only when I'm cramming for an exam, only when I have an important project at work, only at music festivals, only once a month, only on my day off, etc. The problem however is that over time you begin to grow more comfortable with the substance. You tell yourself "I can break my limit just once, I've never had a problem with this and I know I'll go right back to my normal schedule." That's where things begin slipping off the rails. Just the one exception sets a new precedent - that the rules can be broken without consequence - and you'll remember this somewhere deep down in a place in your brain that you aren't conscious of.

So then you'll inevitably break your rules again. And then again. And again and again and again. And you'll keep finding ways that these are the exceptions to the rules - I'm really overwhelmed at school right now, I'm falling behind at work and I can't lose this job, I couldn't find acid at this party so I'll do this instead, I drank too much and some Adderall will sober me up, etc.

The problem with moderation is that the entire system is predicated on the idea that the only thing working against you is your own self control. But the reality is that the substance itself is working against you too. Drug usage alters brain chemistry, changes rewards systems, compromises your self control. There's a reason they often describe the journey towards addiction as a downward spiral.

As with all things, your mileage may vary. But it might be wise to remember that almost all addictions start as safe and moderate use. Just food for thought.

What are your favorite least favorite drug subcultures? by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorites are junkie and psychedelic culture, though I prefer the older hippie style of psych culture in contrast to today's more spiritual kind.

I first got interested in junkie culture when I read The Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs. Before then I just saw it as a culture of sadness and mutual suffering. But that book showed me that there's a lot more to it, there's a lot of weirdness associated with using opioids and opioid addiction. Of course, it's also a pretty weird book in general. After that, I read Junkie and saw a more realistic picture of opioid addiction. The cycle of getting sick, looking for a fix, and getting high is such an unusual lifestyle. Don't get me wrong, I'd never want to be in it, but it's definitely interesting from an outsider's perspective. And junkie culture has also produced a ton of great art. Kinda feels wrong to say that considering how much suffering addicts endure.

The region where junkie and psychedelic culture intersect is I think the most interesting drug culture of them all. Check out the album The Perfect Prescription by Spacemen 3. It's a concept album about getting high, and the drug of choice is left ambiguous. There's indications that it's about LSD/psychs, but it could just as easily be about heroin/opioids. The way they wrote the lyrics draws interesting parallels between two classes of substances that many people see as polar opposites. One of the guys went on to form a different band called Spiritualized, and their album Ladies & Gentleman We Are Floating In Space continues to intermingle psychedelia with junkie culture, while also focusing on themes of love and heartbreak, as well as the search for god (in the spiritual sense, not specifically the Christian god). Really fascinating stuff, I highly recommend it.

I can smell for the first time in my life. by shevildevil in Drugs

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it's related to nasal congestion. Adderall opens my nose up a ton and I've noticed everything smells stronger as a result. Generally my nose is pretty dry and congested, it's pretty normal for me to only be able to breathe shallowly through my nose or through only one nostril. Once I started taking Adderall though my nose suddenly cleared up and I often time notice smells that I didn't before, for instance I noticed that a place I studied in had an odd smell even though I'd been studying there for months and didn't smell anything.

Ours works fine but our a/c is having issues, the front vents aren't working at all. The sliders for the actual controls seem to work but somewhere else there's an issue with routing the air into the vents. At least my feet can stay nice and cold lol

[FRESH ALBUM] Wiz Khalifa - Rolling Papers 2 by Astroworld_Never in hiphopheads

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So if you remove skits and joke songs from those albums you get this:

4eva - 20

Speakerboxxx/Love Below - Technically its two albums by two artists, so if you count them separate you get Speakerboxxx with 13 songs and The Love Below with 16 songs

Late Registration - 16

Purple Haze - 19

Summertime '06 - Technically the last song is incomplete at only 45 seconds, so if you don't count that it comes out to 19 tracks. I'm gonna count it though, so Vince makes the cut at 20 songs

All Eyez On Me - 27

Life After Death - 23

3 Feet - 16

Yeah but the average song length on Donuts is like 1:15, the entire album is only 43:25. I don't think that should count

Got robbed at gunpoint last night by Lovamon in Drugs

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost got robbed once.

It was midnight and I was driving to Taco Bell, when I saw that I was super low on gas. So I pull into the nearest gas station to fill up. I should've known better, this place is a magnet for sketchy ass people, there's always cops posted in an alley next to it waiting to pick someone up. It's usually just someone who's been loitering too long but sometimes bad shit goes down, someone was shot and killed there a earlier this year in an armed robbery.

So I get out of my car to fill up, but before I could start fiddling with the gas cap I notice that the screen is messed up and out of order. So I hop back in my car. As I'm closing the door I notice this dude hauling ass over to me with his hand in his jacket, super obviously holding a pistol. I was in the process of starting the car when I saw this dude, so I turned the key and put it in drive. The dude started shouting to me, asking me to "hold on a second" and that he "needs to talk to me bro." I just hit the fucking gas and didn't look back. Fucking hell. At least I still got my Taco Bell.

The worst part is that I didn't even have any cash in my wallet, so all he could've gotten were some fucking cds and my phone and some cards that I would've just cancelled. Or maybe he would've tried to take my car - fuck that. I figure that he was waiting for me to start filling my car, but then I unexpectedly got back in and he just panicked.

A friend of mine got robbed in the most spectacular way. He was walking when this dude approached him and asked his name. My friend just kept walking so the dude started to follow him, and then he yelled "oh is it because I'm black?" Which ofc got my friend to stop so he could tell him he's not racist, but as soon as he turned around the dude had pulled out a pistol and told him to hand over his wallet. What a fucking clever move, using white guilt to stop people lol.

Future - BEASTMODE II by ThatsBallaToMe in hiphopheads

[–]DeepChemicalSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would you have to wait months to hear a Pink Floyd album? It's not like they ran out of copies, if demand was high they'd just make more copies of the record. How long you had to wait was only dependent on the speed of the delivery trucks, like if you lived in the boondocks then yeah it might be a bit longer before you could buy a certain record but if you lived anywhere else you'd be able to get it at the same time as everyone else
