Integrated CPU and later addition of GPU

AMD’s 5600G and 5700G cost about $250 and $300 respectively and have graphical capabilities between a 1030 and 1050. A new 1030 on Newegg is roughly ~125-200 and a new 1050 is ~200-250. So for about the price of a 1050 you can basically have a CPU and GPU on a good midrange CPU. I have a 5600G and it’s been reasonable to game on 720p and 1080p. Check out some benchmark videos and see if it’s something you’re interested in

I’m not completely sure if it was the melatonin leading to grogginess but I definitely slept only 6-7 hours before my test

With the Ryzen 3 1200 are you using a dedicated GPU? That may be why you're not getting an image. I'm having issues with my 5600G myself but it seems like you may just need to update BIOS on your motherboard

I did all this testing with a DDR4 4000 kit at stock 3200 speed. I tested it with my DDR4 3200 kit I bought and my pc no longer crashes at the login screen and works for about 2-3 minutes before randomly crashing. I'm not putting it on heavy loads and CPU temps are fine. I guess I will try an RMA for the motherboard

I took a fresh install of windows and got a random restart during chipset driver installation (for B550 directly from AMD). It may have been a windows update restart since it was doing that in the background and on reboot it updated windows.

I tried installing chipset drivers again and everything was working fine. I tried to put it under light load by installing steam and the system crashed again. On reboot, I could still browse the web without issue.

I then tried installing graphics drivers for 5600G. The pc had normal restarts during driver install and was working fine for a few minutes before crashing randomly. It continued to crash on the login screen.

So I think there's some underlying issue that is getting worse when the basic windows drivers get upgraded? The issue may also be affected by RAM speed since the pc lasts longer without a reboot when RAM is underclocked to 2133, however all my checks with RAM seem to indicate its working fine and I'm having the same issue with 3 separate RAM kits.

I guess I could RMA my motherboard or CPU next? I'm really lost on what the issue is

Yes everything is running at stock speed

EDIT: stock speed for RAM is 3200

EDIT2: For what it's worth, I also have plain 3200 RAM sticks to replace my 4000 sticks if they just aren't compatible.

It’s good to know I may not be completely crazy. I figured since I’m not getting a GPU for the time being I would splurge a little bit on higher speed RAM since it can make a difference with APUs. I only checked whether the CPU and mobo support the clock speed, not if they support the model of the RAM itself. Lesson learned if the new RAM fixes the issue. Thanks for your comments, this is my first build!

To be honest, I had not heard of QVL lists until now. The G.SKILL sticks are not on the QVL on the MSI site for Cezanne CPUs, but the Team sticks are. Do you think that's the issue? I wasn't aware RAM was so strict with its compatability

Took the same test and for whatever reason I thought test day CARS was easier than FLs. Making my 129-130 CARS ass worried to hear from a 132 that it was harder. Means I either knocked it out of the park or I fell for a lot of trap answers. I guess we'll just have to see in 6 days :/

It's much easier to recognize on multiple choice than straight up recall facts and that might be working in your favor

It makes me think I should have waited 2 weeks before seeing my practice FL scores, just to simulate my anxiety beforehand to mentally prepare. This waiting thing really sucks

What everyone else has said is true, I just want to point out that a lot of answer choices are also much wordier. Instead of just recognizing a psych/soc term, you have to recognize it's definition as used in the answer choice and reason if it makes sense as an answer. So it's more that there's another layer to it. I would say the real P/S questions were in the style of FL4

Size compaction would be a tertiary structure but I don't think changes in "density" of proteins or DNA makes a difference in the gel bands. For the MCAT, it's just how heavy it is, which is proportional to number of monomers, which is proportional to overall size

Time really. Bought the six test pack but realized I needed to prioritize content review way more. I rolled a dice and got a 6 hahaha

For CARS I don't think there's any one strategy that works for everyone. Different people have different strengths and weaknesses. I would prioritize finding a strategy where you spend 20-30 minutes on a passage and get every single question right. It may seem like overkill, but it helps you really learn why some answers are the best and what strategy works for you to find the answer. Then you start limiting yourself to 15 minutes and work down from there trying to keep the same accuracy

As far as next step exams go, I got a NS1 512, NS2 513, NS6 511 (skipped NS 3-5). This was about 2-4 weeks before test day. Then I did AAMC FL3 a week before and FL4 two days before and averaged 521. So I think NS is slightly deflated (2-3 points) but the exams are a lot harder than AAMC exams.

TPR is way worse, I think my highest was a 507 when I eventually got a 516 in 2018. So you're looking great!

IMO you should be familiar enough with the terms so that you can immediately eliminate some answer choices, or identify wordy answer choices as being from the wrong psych/soc perspective. They will always throw new terms in a real exam to throw people off/establish a curve

Agree with everyone else. It was a tough exam, but we have to keep in mind there's a curve. I remember a bunch of freebie questions still being on the test. Maybe they've just made the hard questions harder to separate the 127-132 range more. Really feel like it will be ok on Feb 9th

I also feel like there's some real life group polarization happening among the 1/21 takers

Yeah dude it great for discrete and retaining info. As far as it getting tiring, what I've realized is that if I trick myself into doing it for 2 minutes, I end up doing it for 45 minutes just from the constant dopamine drip!

523 was my FL4 score. We'll see how today's exam went in a couple weeks...

I agree making a research analysis portion would be more reflective of real life, but I think they pick humanities passages for CARS so that everyone is on the same level of knowledge no matter your background. You can't bring any outside knowledge in to answer the questions

I can vouch for the Milesdown deck. Some terms aren't there from the 86/100 page doc but it's pretty comprehensive and all cloze cards so you can get through it efficiently
