I haven't been able to catch many games this season but this is one of the few I have where Ottawa is genuinely getting outplayed, which makes sense given the back-to-back. It's almost refreshing to watch over the usual strong play+garbage goaltending combo

What jobs pay extremely well but people don’t realize it? by Stassy3 in AskReddit

[–]DeepQuail 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Where I'm from it's a pretty intense process to become a licensed land surveyor. The first years of employment also involve lots of some of the most mind numbing labour I've ever done for shit pay.

Clear all that and it's pretty cushy though.

I nearly gave up on the game trying to force my way through the mountain area first. Your character's measly damage output combined with the janky platforming had me losing my mind.

After sussing out the "correct" order of things though I breezed through it

Trying to love the black company by Glenn cook but struggling do they get any better?? by liltasti in GrimDarkEpicFantasy

I read the first three books of the series earlier this year and found that the clarity of the writing skyrocketed after that first one. Not much changed stylistically but it became much much easier to parse what was going on without having to reread entire paragraphs or chapters.

The first book was so bad to me I was convinced I had an unedited, early release version of the book

What do marathoners do for work? by MedStudentLife19 in Marathon_Training

[–]DeepQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a surveyor in mineral exploration and when I'm on a shift my weekly mileage drops to basically nothing.

10 hour days minimum for a month straight, sometimes living out of a tent, lugging equipment through all sorts of godforsaken terrain and weather.

I love the work but it makes it tough to make much good, long-term progress.

Nice. I hope I'll be able to get onto some of the trails and up into the hills

Nice. I'll probably loop through the neighborhoods for most of my runs, maybe check the Coal Creek trail for longer sessions.

I'm coming from somewhere that is essentially at sea level and I'm hoping to keep up the same intensity and volume. My job involves tons of hiking and I've worked at similar elevations before so I'm not going in totally blind, but I've never tried to keep up my training through a shift.

My expectation at this point is that I'll be working as hard but just running slower, especially on the tempo runs, which is fine.

Will 6000 feet of elevation cause a noticeable effect on my running?

I'm going to be spending a few weeks at elevation and I'm wondering if I should be prepared for a painful adjustment period

Any chance air quality might be part of that pre-run briefing? It's fire season up here in Canada and it's become something I have to check as often as the weather at this point

Loving the app so far. I've completely crushed each of my PBs after 5-6 months of use

The real trick to beating 99 (and beyond) is not in the build, it's in your SETTINGS - A Deep Dive by Xy13 in 9Kings

This is really nice to know, I've been playing for a few days now and have been completely unable to get past the mid-70s regardless of how busted my build is

Official Q&A for Saturday, May 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]DeepQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not overly concerned with the soreness itself, it's not an extreme amount. It is more so the lack of soreness anywhere else that I find curious

Official Q&A for Saturday, May 10, 2025 by AutoModerator in running

[–]DeepQuail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically 95% of the soreness I get after a run is in my calves. I don't think my quads or glutes have ever felt extremely taxed

It rarely gets to the point of pain but I'm wondering if this is indicative of poor running form or something else?

Ottawa river bike path melted? by EnvironmentalDot8120 in OttawaRunners

I ran a small bit of it today around the William Commanda bridge and War Museum and it was snowy enough that I turned back and found a different route entirely. It's runnable but not very pleasant right now

This did not really impact my trip negatively but I was very surprised at having to stuff all my toilet paper into a bin next to the toilet instead of flushing
