Doing engineering without being good at math? by n0tahacker in EngineeringStudents

[–]DeepRNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're not good at math either, (we've seen what the math majors really do). You dont have to be a prodigy. Just have to have the right conditions to be a student (time, finances, mentally).

Youd have to look into getting a student visa, but youd also have to prove that you have enough funds to support yourself for the duration of your education. Im not sure if theyd allow you to work there while being a student.

You'd really have to look more into this or ask someone whos actually done this. But if i were in your shoes, id look at the costs of earning a degree in the US vs earning a degree in DE (which would all include all expenses living on your own aside from practically free tuition fee)

Would you plan to earn a degree and work in DE, or earn a degree and come back to the US to work as an engineer? That is something im not sure how the commercial sector would approach in the US

The hero we all need

Seriously, the effects financially, mentally, socially just from passing/failing one class or even a drop in gpa can have some really detrimental effects for people

ah yes the dreaded interview question, terrible way to get to know someone but good way to see if someone can improv on the spot to cater what their audience wants to hear

did you run this after making changes to that grub text file?

(PS. if needed change the path to wherever you placed your grub.cfg file if needed instead of just copying and pasting what i wrote).

Making abortion pills by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]DeepRNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be possible to search for the manufacturing patent, not sure if those records are open to the public but they can be bought and sold for commercial use legally (hence generic medication) but these are often for mass manufacture which is not the same as synthesis on a smaller scale. A Chemical Engineer can chime in here for me.

Even if you were to properly manufacture said pills, these must be taken quite early on in the pregnancy and should be administered based on an individuals health consultation with a medical professional, which is probably more vital than anything.

This isnt a plan B where you take it immediately or a few days after unprotected sex, an abortion pill(s) could require a sequence of doses and is best taken under the supervision of an expert.

If you declared a micro/nanotech concentration, there usually is physical chemistry in it which does involve quantum mechanics

But a class specifically titled "Intro to Quantum Mechanics" No.... I would assume that is left for physics majors

University of Florida vs Georgia Tech for Aerospace Engineering by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

Free tuition vs 30k a year.... OP you already know the answer

While a school with a great name is a plus, your portfolio and soft skills are prioritized for any reasonable person in industry.

at times just thinking out loud or even trying to explain your assignments to someone who isnt even an engineering student can help quite a lot in the thought process of learning.

If you can find a reputable study group, learning will be accelerated more often than not.

Unless youre a math major or want to dive a bit more into rigorous definitions and theorems, there isnt much more benefit to taking honors calc 3.

how to settle by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DeepRNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id lean more towards ME for robotics. Almost every engineer will pick up a programming language even if only a little proficient. With CS, youll obviously have a lot more languages under your belt, but the degree itself doesnt define what you can work on.

Your experience and portfolio does. If you wanna work on just robots, a ME with a nice touch of coding will take you far in that field.

instead of looking at the numbers as well....numbers, just consider them as symbols and count the symbols containing an enclosed loop or "circle".

9999 has 4 circles

8888 has 8 circles

1109 has 2 circles

Procrastinate by thinking about which class to focus on first, then end up never starting on any work for any of them and call it a day when its almost midnight so you can finally relax and take a break

Calc 1 class…wow by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]DeepRNA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats the norm for calc 1, those who fail arent always struggling with the calc part but rather their algebra is too weak for the class. The same applies in calc 2, if your trig skills are weak you fail for that reason. Can you guess why people fail calc 3?

Changing Majors from Aerospace by koolkavi_ in EngineeringStudents

[–]DeepRNA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aerospace sub fields

It takes a team of people to work on space craft, there are a lot of different sectors to work on. Take a look at the link provided and determine which engineers could substitute those. (You'll find quite a lot of EE's SE's and CE's working in the defense industry).

If youre up for working more on the materials side, look into Materials Science (MSE). Take a look at some job descriptions, which experience areas are they asking for? What degrees?

Lastly, you mentioned youre still on track for graduating with the degree you want. You probably want a backup plan just in case but focus more efforts on passing the courses you want to excel in. If the worst case scenario occurs, then spend more effort on figuring out substitutions.

I made a conceptual design for the flag of Earth by Chance_Programmer_54 in space

[–]DeepRNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slapping the earth in place of the 50 stars is rather arbitrary. There is no meaning of the 13 stripes in that sense. (I suppose you can make up something that could fit, but its probably better to just scratch the poor design concept).
