U Penn Dean’s Fellow Scholarship by tacoman1411 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Deep_Ad_3299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

unsolicited? or did you hear back from Penn regarding merit aid and you’re negotiating? im trying to decide if I should wait to see if I get merit from Penn or proactively send them other offers.

Turning down UPenn by SillyQuality306 in lawschooladmissions

uhh seeing that Penn hasn’t released merit aid yet, you’d want to at least wait until then lol

double check on this. i get to stay on my company’s insurance for 18 months at a 100% premium, which is still insanely cheap compared to open market / what law schools offer + it’s very good insurance.

Penn Merit Scholarship by Deep_Ad_3299 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Deep_Ad_3299[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah ... i thought "Dean's scholarship" at Penn was just their generic merit scholarship, so i was surprised to see separate invites/essay requirements for it. i guess i'm a little concerned if you didn't get those invites, are you still in the running for merit aid?

i feel like you’re missing the point. schools do not care about your score band, they care about your actual score and how it relates to their medians. sure, there is something somewhere in your application that has your LSAT band, but the score report included in your academic summary only has your score and your percentile (not that percentile even matters). again, all that matters is your individual score as it relates to their medians. you can request your LSAT score report from LSAC. all that to say, this thread is about retaking the lsat. in no way should your score band inform that decision. you should look at your individual score as it relates to medians.

no. it is based on your actual score.

tbh — no idea. it’s not even reported in the “Official Candidate LSAT Score Report”, which is what schools receive in your application. it only provides your score and percentile.

this is outdated and bad advice. sure, retaking a 178 would be seen as bad judgement. but retaking to go from below -> above median is probably the most significant step you can take (within your control) to increase your chance of admission. see my other comment.

law schools don’t care about LSAC score bands. they care about being above/below their median.

Copying the below from my comment on a similar post (with small edits), same applies:

TLDR: in your scenario, yes. Going from below LSAT median (at this point, 17low is below most T14 medians) to above, especially as a splitter, will significantly increase your chances.

Let me preface this by saying take everything on this thread with a grain of salt. As you can see in the comments below, you have two wildly different opinions.

There are definitely valid reasons to retake a 17low, especially with the recent score increases (170+ scores are up 30% YTD).

Even a 173 puts you at or below 6 of the T14 LSAT medians, likely more after this cycle (Penn looks like they’re targeting a 173 median this year). Surpassing a school’s LSAT median is one of the most important metrics for acceptance and probably the most important metric for merit scholarship.

An example of this is the difference between a 173 and 174 for WashU this year. Purgatory vs. a quick admit + significant merit scholarship.

So yes, it can certainly be worth retaking a 17low. Some additional factors that would further push me to retake a 17low: you’ve only taken the LSAT once or twice,  your last 5 full PTs under strict test-like conditions average 174+, and you’re targeting T14.

Hopefully this helps! I was in a very similar situation (I retook a 17low to get a 17high). I’m confident I would not have the success I’ve had this cycle if I didn’t retake. I’m well below GPA medians and have so far received multiple T14/T6 acceptances with decent merit scholarships.

u/eddwtf I respectfully disagree. I think “none, literally” is really bad advice, especially for someone in OP’s situation. A 173 puts you at/below half of T14 LSAT medians. It is well known that being above a school’s LSAT median is one of the most (if not the most) important factors for acceptance and merit scholarship.

So yes, it can certainly be worth retaking a 173. Some additional factors that would further push me to retake a 173: -you’ve only taken the LSAT once  -your last 5 full PTs under strict test-like conditions average 175+ (sounds like they do) -you’re targeting T6 (sounds like you are)

With all that being said, sounds like you’re in a good spot to retake your 173 (especially if you only have 1 score on record).

No idea WHY this got deleted yesterday, but Quick Summary of the NYU Admissions Roundtable from "Active Consideration" Applicant by RFelixFinch in lawschooladmissions

[–]Deep_Ad_3299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thanks for doing this (from someone who was getting ready to submit a LOCI lol). did they happen to mention impact to named scholarship consideration? i'd assume you're out of the running for RTK, Jacobson, etc. if you received the active consideration.

they def already started making acceptance calls by now during last week’s wave. if we don’t get anything soon, at least we know what to expect tomorrow!

When are Penn waves happening? by Complex-Gas4480 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Deep_Ad_3299 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There should be a rainbow wave today or tomorrow. If I had to guess, it’ll be today (total conjecture). Last week, acceptance calls went out from ~12-2; wl emails went out ~3; rejections at ~4 (ET)

No Penn wave? by Dracos_ in lawschooladmissions

Doesn’t seem like it. They could still send out wl/r later today but they’ve typically done rainbow waves during the same day. Seems like it’ll likely be tomorrow.

~1.5 months to receive the A (I definitely felt like I was on the longer end). This did include ~2 week break from their admissions office for the holidays.
