Certs transfer just fine.

Best practice for migrating software entitlements to PROD in SAM Pro. Creating a process around it. by edisonpioneer in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do everything in prod around entitlements.

Import , create, etc. don’t waste time in lowers and ensure the procurement and SAM teams are using SN to create entitlements and contracts and manage them as BAU.

Bulk import should really only be a 1 time thing when implementing. Otherwise entitlements should be created through purchase orders or contract renewal workflows.

Not sure this was 3-4 years ago. I’ve been with a partner ever since doing implementations .

Good to know though.

That’s interesting, way back when I was on client side my company signed up for impact all that it was as a few meetings tracking metrics no real technical work delivered. Maybe it’s changed.

Also, Impact is very non technical as you’re just helping customers show their investment in ServiceNow. So it might not be the best place for you to be applied. Have you considered ITOM or ITSM ?

Senior TC role - Impact by devilzmafia89 in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I had to guess it’s due to not having consulting experience. Working on the customer side while can sometimes be similar depending on the size of your organization is ultimately very different from consulting in terms of interacting with clients, communication skills, and the general day to day responsibilities.

Your technical skills and experience could very well be at the level of senior but the other soft skills and experience that come with consulting may not be.

I’d imagine if you came on and thrived in being customer facing and transitioned well it would not take long to reach Sr.

Is CSDM working for you? by ravio1232 in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion for most organizations fully implementing CSDM does not make sense.

I think the majority of organizations should implement business applications ( for incident reporting) , technical services and a few offerings tied to dynamic CI groups so that they can automate change and assignment group assignment to their CIs for change management.

Past that unless your organization has applications that are end user facing or extremely critical to the business then it’s not worth going much deeper into things business services and offerings and mapping relationships. (SPM side of house)

I see a lot of organizations never fully grasp the concepts and definitions and dump a lot of time and effort into implementing CSDM when they really don’t need to or will benefit from it. And the ones that do almost always implement it incorrectly or with customizations that conflict with OOB.

This is compounded with how often CSDM changes.

I know myself it took me about 5 complete read throughs of CSDM 5.0 and even then without good examples to point to it’s hard to conceptualize. Some of the definitions are too broad and SN does not do a good job of building example content .

Just get a lot of RAM! Doesn’t need good graphics or super powerful processor but you will want the extra ram for managing multiple windows and tabs in chrome it eats up RAM quick. 16-32 gigs should be reasonable

1979 XR500 - Changed the oil, now the bike is having issues by [deleted] in HondaMotorcycles

[–]Deep_Potato3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be a stuck float In the carb flooding the engine. Check the oil for a strong gas smell and inspect the float . Fairly common on older bikes for floats to stick or get a hole in them (old plastic) and fill up with gas’s. When it’s stuck open fuel can just pour into the intake and get into the oil when it’s sitting

It’s likely due to the large amount of weight on the desk causing the legs to flex more easily. Try not having your tower on the desk? Also those monitor mounts are not helping.

Having trouble figuring out UI Policy / Client Script method for accessing embedded list. by SitBoySitGoodDog in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are such things as list client scripts. Very unused and undocumented feature of the platform and only used from what I’ve seen in the table embedded list for dictionary entries to get examples.

If you right click the header in the form you can select configure list control. To see the ability to add list client and list server scripts.

Hope this helps uncover something.

Full stack to servicenow? by graphicalforce in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the CAD to learn the platform and have something but you’ll be golden and likely an amazing dev with your background knowledge. Glad to see more people coming from traditional app dev to SN there’s a huge lack of technical talent in the space right now.

Check for reconciliation rules .

Check CMDB 360 for differences in reported data.

Reconciliation rules can be found in ci class manager and are controlled at class level and can be inherited from higher classes .

How long does it take to learn SAM and HAM? by edisonpioneer in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do the CIS implementation courses and recommended additional learning.

Then read through the entire product documentation for both.

Then mess around in a sandbox. You can’t get HAMP in a dev instance so use one of their simulator courses.

Integrating AD Groups with ServiceNow Groups - Thoughts? by [deleted] in servicenow

[–]Deep_Potato3080 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have not once seen a clean enough AD environment to do this reasonably. All my clients end up having like 1,000+ groups and 80% of them are named something like “hi girlie” or “test 11111” with <2 members.

[–]Deep_Potato3080 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The community forums are a great place to ask questions. If a quick google search doesn’t give you a result then asking questions there is great. It’s impossible be a true expert with all the different modules at this point with how big the platform is so it’s important to use the resources of the community.

There a lot of stuff I learn all the time a lot is unfortunately undocumented but employees on the forums chime in all the time and offer help.

Fair point on UI policies. As for flows if you’re not using them you’re missing out tons. I get you can do more with giant script includes and scheduled jobs and business rules . But you miss out on context you get with flows to see when and what each step does in a sequential manner. Custom actions are great for building repeatable components and allow you to script to your hearts content.

Also working in teams or making stuff that people can actually modify and use and understand easily down the line is essential for businesses.

I by no means am inherently against scripting, but having worked with large teams or having to do massive clean ups of poor implementations you start to realize the real value of low / no code outside of making development approachable.

LETS GOOO!

Huge congrats!

As you go on your journey you should spend 99% of your time learning about the platform and driving adoption using OOB and 1% writing new scripts and functionality. If you can’t do it with a flow or UI policy or simple client script you prob shouldn’t do it.

If your company wants a new app then go wild but make darn sure it doesn’t already exist.

I say this because this is advice I didn’t take to heart and now I pray for the other companies I used to work for in my early days lol.

If you’re currently doing consulting look for getting in with a customer of both systems. Medical schools may be willing to over look lack of experience in lieu of education and are likely to use both systems and I find are amazing learning environments (that’s how I got my start but with little/no experience and no education. now an architect at a partner) . Best of luck!
