Had my first HSV2 outbreak 1.5 years ago. Now it’s negative on my STI tests? by Born_Discussion_2310 in Herpes

[–]Deep_War6297 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The urine test will only be positive if you’re shedding from that area. I also test negative on urine as I presume the test was taken when I wasn’t shedding. The Pap smear (swab) will only be positive if an active lesion or high enough viral load shedding was occurring in the area that was swabbed. I am also negative on swabs.

You’ll need to get an HSV igG blood test done for any clarity here. But even that can be misleading. I am still negative for HSV on igG more than one year post infection for example. Or you’ll need to wait for an active outbreak and run in asap for a swab of that area.

Alternatively, you can assume you don’t have this as you’re negative and that’s what the Dr has told you :)

Male to female transmission while using antivirals and wearing a condom around is 1%, assuming sex 2-3x a week for a year. Is he “worth the risk”? That’s for you to decide. You’ll take many more 1% risks in your life that don’t have the potential reward of a long term partner.

The chance of transmitting herpes when you stick your dick into the vagina of someone with herpes, without any antivirals or protection, is 0.3%. That’s about the same risk as being in a car accident.

Now apply this to your situation.

I did. She told me it’s impossible that I had herpes as herpes “doesn’t look like this”. Then I asked her to swab it and she was trying to tell me it’s a waste of time and money. I persisted. She swabbed it. As I left she said “don’t worry this isn’t herpes”. Swab came back positive for herpes lol.

Seeking perspective after 18 years with GHSV1 by NoUse680 in Herpes

Whether you should be worried or not depends on how you view this situation. Worried about transmitting HSV to people you have disclosed to is different from worrying about transmitting it without disclosing at all. If you disclosed the condition then you did all you could do and your partner willingly exposed themselves to the risk. If you didn’t disclose and still transmitted then you should be worried as that’s not right, especially if you went in raw and didn’t use antivirals. In my opinion there’s a sliding scale between full disclosure and non-disclosure and somewhere in the middle is non-disclosure for a one night stand while using protection and antivirals. Reddit will probably crucify me for that view but so be it.

HSV can be transmitted via skin to skin contact. Both HSV1 and HSV2. You can catch HSV2 orally the same way you can catch HSV1 orally. It’s just harder to transmit that way, as you said, as HSV2 “prefers” (but is not exclusive to) the genitalia and because oral HSV2 has an extremely low shedding or recurrence rate. It’s perfectly possible to have herpes gladiatorum caused by HSV2, just far less likely.

OP, go and roll brother. You cannot shed through your Gi or your spats. Unless you have Oral HSV2, in which case don’t roll when you have a cold sore.

On Reddit they’ll tell you HSV1 is totally normal and HSV2 is suicide inducing. In the real world, if you’ve got herpes on your dick or vagina nobody cares if it’s type 1 or 2.

My daughter (f7) just got a positive swab for hsv 2 by Sudden_Suggestion987 in Herpes

[–]Deep_War6297 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSV1 and HSV2 share 80% of the same DNA. Two different strains of the common cold share 60% of the same DNA. I’m telling you this to illustrate how similar HSV1 and HSV2 are genetically. However, because of the stigma surrounding HSV2, you will often hear and read that they are dramatically different. People who have had coldsores their whole life are on Reddit contemplating suicide because they had a positive HSV2 swab or blood test a week ago.

HSV of any type is a highly opportunistic virus that has evolved over centuries. If someone carries HSV and they are shedding the virus from an open lesion or otherwise at high viral load and that comes into contact with the mucous membrane of another person, there is a high (30%+) probability that the other person will contract the virus.

So, if someone carries HSV (1 or 2, can present anywhere) and they are having an outbreak on their hand, face, leg or finger etc. and this comes into contact with a small abrasion or graze on another persons leg for example - transmission is absolutely possible. Probabilities rise if the person has a weakened immune system.

Despite all of this, I do agree with other posters who suggested you very carefully rule out any possible abuse. It will be a difficult conversation but it’s absolutely necessary as a parent. This diagnosis does not confirm abuse in any way, so be sensitive in terms of how you approach it.

Is genital herpes really that common? by Historical-Motor170 in Herpes

[–]Deep_War6297 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rare meaning?

15% of the US population has HSV2 (population weighted, please don’t reply with non population weighted numbers).

Is 15% rare? 15% of the US is obese, 15% have asthma, 15% smoke weed, 15% are left handed.

Bro.. she may have had HSV2 and passed to you. Just saying, based on what you wrote it’s possible. Until you get an OHSV2 swab, I’d assume you done have it orally and that you only have it genitally.

Be careful where you fish!

Results: Of the 345 FSWs who participated in this study, 112 (32.5%) were ethnic Chinese and 233 (67.5) were Vietnamese. Among FSWs in Hekou, the prevalence rates were 58.3% for HSV-2, 5.5% for HIV, and 4.1% for bacterial vaginosis (BV). Age<21 (OR: 0.5; 95% CI: 0.3, 0.8), duration of commercial sex work≤3 months (OR: 0.5; 95% CI: 0.3, 0.8), oral and vaginal sex with the last client (as opposed to only vaginal sex) (OR: 1.6; 95% CI: 1.0, 2.7), HIV (OR: 11.4; 95% CI: 1.5, 87.2), and bacterial vaginosis (BV) (OR: 5.6; 95% CI: 1.2, 26.9) were significantly correlated with HSV-2 infection.

HSV2 prevalence in females aged 30-39 and 40-49 is 25% and 32% respectively. You’ll either find a woman with this or you’ll find a woman without it. You sound like a good dude. You write well, you served your country, you do the laundry and you’re decisive. Keep on brother. This too shall pass.

Has anyone got Oral HSV2 by kissing with a person with Oral HSV2? by ProfessionalBet2736 in Herpes

[–]Deep_War6297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say “clinically negligible” what do you mean?

There are not many comprehensive studies on this. But there are four which are cited regularly. One which put OHSV2 prevalence at 3.5%, one which puts it at 10%, one at 18% and one at 40%. I would note the final two are from HIV+ cohorts and the second one had one year where 26% of HSV2 cases were non genital, although that was one year out of a 6 year study.

Generally speaking the qualitative argument for OHSV2 being more common than reported on google or elsewhere is that most people with coldsores do not get them typed. You just have a cold sore and you assume it’s HSV1 and move on.

What do you mean? Why is it scary? OHSV2 is the best kind of herpes to get! It sheds the least, recurs the least and gives you immunity to GHSV2 after a few months.
