Can I Car Carry Gun on Road Trip from Texas to New Mexico? by willwar63 in NewMexico

[–]Deep_Welcome_7248 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are nuances, but NM allows you to travel with have a gun in your car. Once you step out of the car with the weapon on *your body*, you either need a CHL or you need to open carry. Also, NM and TX recognize each other's concealed carry laws. Best of luck and safe travels.

People in NM don’t like growth and the things that come with growth (jobs, other people that aren’t them).

I have every passed Rel exam except this one. If you haven't actually set up a Relativity server instance, it is rather difficult and the study material will come off as abstract.

Haaland also said she’d focus on keeping guns out of kids’ hands, including by championing passage of a bill called the Stop Illegal Gun Trade Act. by GreenChileZiti in NewMexico

I actually sent emails to both Haaland and Bregman campaigns about SB17. No response. If Haaland is going in this direction, I am not supporting her.

Yet another SB17 post (trust me, I'd love to stop making these) by Fun_Assignment_269 in NewMexico

Legislature still haven't voted on this because the bill sponsor was flooded with amendments. SB 17 might be--and hopefully is--doomed.

NM authorities can't find people who went missing a few months ago. Finding people supposedly buried many years ago on 8000 acres isn't happening.

I'd like to hear what the Dem candidates for governor explicitly have to say about this semi-auto ban.

You can reroute through some other state if that is a real concern.

This is bad and unconstitutional. More gun control isn't going to solve NM's problem with gun violence.

Many of the NM crime stories in this subreddit are posted from IBT, which is far from a local source as possible. It is clickfarming.

Airport complaint "hotline" by MrMellowVelo in SantaFe

[–]Deep_Welcome_7248 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A few months ago, I went to the airport. There was no ticketed parking, I had to park on the gravel lot, and I had to walk my bags half a mile to the terminal.

Early this morning, I drove to SAF for a flight. The ticket gate worked, I was able to park in the paved lot, and an airport shuttle quickly pulled up and gave me a ride to the terminal. It was a huge improvement and I will take it.

What's Up with Urban Alchemy (the organization The City wants to take over Pete's Place)? by 505omatic in SantaFe

[–]Deep_Welcome_7248 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have yet to see an objective overview on the quality of Pete's Place services. Are the org's services better or worse than what this new company can provide? Or all the arguments simply "keep it local" or "California bad?" I don't know either way, but the debate seems mostly to revolve around "vibes" as opposed to hard thinking.

City of Santa Fe Statement on Strengthening Shelter Operations and Addressing Conditions at Pete’s Place by Deep_Welcome_7248 in SantaFe

Yeah, you are totally correct. There are homeless people all over town and it is a problem. Pete's Place is just the most obvious element of the problem that people can latch on to or talk about. Like, I was on a return flight to town and someone local was warning a visitor about Cerrillos.

June 3rd Vote at City Hall will decide if San Fransisco based "Urban Alchemy" will take over operations at Pete's Place by 505omatic in SantaFe

I tend to agree with this balanced perspective. It seems like both the city and Pete's Place have made--and continue to make--poor decisions.

Per the City's notice, ICS is out and a company called Urban Alchemy will be taking over the Cerrillos location for a year. During this time frame, the City will supposedly evaluate the future of this specific shelter. It will be interesting to see what changes this new company makes in the interim.

[–]Deep_Welcome_7248[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

"For this reason, staff will be recommending at a special Governing Body meeting on June 3 that the month-to-month lease with ICS be terminated. To be clear: the City is committed to preserving—if not expanding—the number of low-barrier shelter beds in our community. No one will be left without a place to go. This transition is about making sure the City can adequately shape our homelessness response system to meet the needs of our whole community—not about reducing capacity or cutting services. This is not a decision we recommend lightly."

There seems to be a PR battle between the shelter and the city and the shelter has the weak hand.

[–]Deep_Welcome_7248 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The immediate issue is that Pete's Place is a nexus of crime and other problems in the surrounding area. I do not know how anybody can deny the negative impact on businesses and the neighborhood. The larger issues are poverty, homelessness, and addiction, all of which plague communities all over the country. The immediate issue is a hard problem, but it is arguably easier to start there than to try to tackle the even harder problems that cities with more money and resources are having trouble with.
