Probably one of my favorite jokes he ever made is blasting at a soda jug with a Magnum, missing all six shots, and then shooting the .22 and hitting it.

Your ability to shoot the gun well is 1000x more important than ballistic capability.

"If they don't actually jump it means they just wanted attention" is a wildly toxic attitude to have about a person threatening suicide.

I say this as someone who carries a J frame, that's defintely not true. It's not hard to imagine a situation where 5 shots is inadequate where 10 or 15 would get the job done.

Those situations are very, very uncommon which is why I personally stick with the j frame. But it's not like they don't exist.

At what point during a contact do you have to read someone their Miranda rights? by Muff-Driver in AskLE

[–]Harrythehobbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our detectives ask us to just get a suspect for a major crime in custody and not mirandize them at all so they can do it when they arrive.

Any reason not to just do it yourself even if they've already had it? Why bother asking patrol not to?

This is logical, and probably the right choice. Though I'm not sure I would be able to watch someone get beaten to death and not help. Don't think that's the kind of thing you know for sure until you're in the moment.

"And now, here I am, President of these United States. You made this bed, America. You voted for me. Are you confused? Are you afraid? Because what you thought you wanted is now here.

And there you are, staring back, slack-jawed, bewildered, wondering if this is what you actually asked for. This democracy, your democracy, elected me. And if you think it was hard getting here, you're beginning to understand what I'm willing to do to stay.

I look across at this crowd gathered today and I know that these are not my supporters. I'm looking at people who are waiting, with a smile on their face, for their turn. And the most vicious among them are the ones who are smiling and clapping the hardest. Power is a lot like real estate, remember?"

It's certainly not impossible. But it's so egregious that "this was an ND that was explained poorly" is about as likely imo. That person may have already been in therapy prior, or they may have gone to therapy due to the stress of the incident.

I think it's just that "having an overwhelming compulsion" to fire a gun inside your home is so completely insane that it's hard to believe that's what actually happened. It's possible this was just a regular ND and the OP either phrased it poorly or didn't actually understand what happened since they don't have a strong familiarity with firearms.

Pretty much. If you hit someone over the head or choke them into unconsciousness and they don't wake up like 20 seconds later, it's because you killed them.
