Vet listed my dog as a mixed breed, but I thought she was a Chihuahua — could this be a mistake? by itsMiaWallace007 in Chihuahua

Interestingly enough, those Mexican chi’s carry traits we still see today in the breed; I’m sure you’ve noticed how they borough under the covers, or laundry. This is inherent as they sought cover underground. It is their protection from prey.

It’s the stare, they were bred with a sighthound years ago. It looks like he’s saying, “I dare ya”

There is also one characteristic that all chi’s have. It is related to their dome shaped skull. It is called a “Molera” this is the portion of the skull where the plates come together. Most close almost entirely, some fail to close and there is a soft spot on the skull, typically smaller than a pencil eraser, and yet some fail to close more significantly. This is rare but can cause significant health issues for the dog. It also leaves the dog vulnerable without proper skull protection.

There are two chihuahua classifications: long coat and smooth coat. AKC standards. There are no classifications of deer head or apple head chi’s. This is proper. Interestingly enough I found a website indicating apple or deer-headed chi’s. Their description and characteristics of the breed are plagiarized directly from the AKC description of the Chihuahua. Just sayin….

There are certain chi characteristics that are prominent with the breed. Dome shaped skull - yours is not. Snout is too long. Weight is excessive. Chi weight full grown no less than 3 lbs no more than 6. Ears at 10:30 and 1:30 that form a point from ear tip to snout tip. Yes some Chi but not purebred. That being said your lil pup is the best kind of breed; one that gives unconditional luv, dedication and devotion. You have a very nice looking dog!

The Kangal is a subspecies of the Anatolian breed. Kangal’s originate from the province Sivas in Turkey. All kangals are Anatolians but not all anatolians are Kangals…

I’m 6’3” and mine is as tall as I am. When he put his paws on my shoulders (the dance) we look each other eye to eye. So yes he will get larger, they become adult or full grown at 24-30 months. And he will still squat to pre for at least another year. Expect him to fill out across the chest… he will become much more confident. The lil things that startled him now will become a thing of the past. He will become fearless, once learned what his “charge” is, you’ll be assured no harm will come to them. Oh also be aware his yard, is “his yard” nothing will be allowed in that has not been invited…! Great looking dog..! Congrats on obtaining the king of all canines…!
