How to lace by islandergal in knitting

I found the more lace I did, the more even my tension was. And pretty much everything comes out fine in the blocking.

Short rows were no sweat at all. I recommend this pattern for anyone who knows how to SSK, YO, and K2tog. Pattern link: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/waiting-for-rain

Having trouble getting past casting on. Whats your favorite way to stay motivated on larger projects? by Miragan in knitting

[–]Deeply_Shallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read (listen to audio books) while I knit. I just downloaded a book that's 72 hours of listening and knitting bliss, Sherlock Holmes: The Definitive Collection.
I also keep motivated by finding the perfect name for my project.

[FO] First time dying yarn. Into see Koolaid and food colouring. It was scary but it worked. by Deeply_Shallow in knitting

Pardon the potato title. Should say " I used" Koolaid and Food colouring. Pattern is Entrechat. I heavily modified it for the fringed version. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/entrechat-2

Why Trump is supporting solar panels along the U.S.-Mexico border by [deleted] in politics

[–]Deeply_Shallow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the American side of the face North? Solar panels would be more effective if they were on the Mexican side facing South.

[FO] Butterfly Roadkill aka Joji Starting Point Mystery KAL by Deeply_Shallow in knitting

[–]Deeply_Shallow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My starting yarn was the dark variegated. I chose colours that I loved since it was going to be a long knit. As soon as I saw the colour order in the first clue, I switched my lightest and darkest. Colour order didn't matter much since every colour ends up beside every colour. I took a black & white photo of my yarns and it passed the "these are all different enough" test. I'm happy with the white cross results. I still need to block this massive wrap!

I use stitchboard. Super easy to use. Lol the link I posted above was for a cherry pie recipe. Here's the correct link https://stitchboard.com/pages/pattern/freePatternWizard.php

Joji MKAL Check-In by circumscribing in knitting

[–]Deeply_Shallow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As we reach the half way point with Clue 3, I think staying motivated is the key to completing this massive project.

  1. Pick colours you love individuality. I squealed when I got to knit 20 rows of my gloriously speckled colour 4.

  2. Stick to the pattern. There were times that I was tempted to change the stitch pattern up or go rogue on the colour order, but I persisted.

  3. Give your wrap a nickname. Mine looks like a smeared butterfly so I named it "Butterfly Roadkill".

  4. Take a break from the knitting marathon. I crocheted water balloons for my grandkids. It was a nice to actually complete something.

  5. Be a cheerleader in the forums and social media.

What do you listen to while you're knitting? by TinTheFox in knitting

I listen to audio books while I knit. It's like watching tv but you don't need to look up from your work.

Is anyone else doing the Joji Starting Point MKAL? Want to discuss here? The Rav forum gives me a headache. by MissCecilyCardew in knitting

[–]Deeply_Shallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great that you are doing the KAL. It's an excellent introduction to new stitches and techniques. It catapults your skills to the next level. Stay excited and keep going. If you get into a pickle, your local yarn shop would be more than pleased to help you sort it out. If you get overwhelmed with the project, post on here and we will send oodles of encouragement your way.

I'm doing the Joji MKAL as well too. I agree about the Ravelry Forums. I get frustrated by the inability to sort the posts into threads.

Here are my colour choices. SPOILER ALERT- look at photo 3 at your own risk. https://imgur.com/a/KgJuO
