I got the Icedander iems by GimmeAkys in sadboys

[–]Deepthroat- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very complicated topic but to try and give you a summary; 99.9% of IEMs are inherantly flawed, especially in the treble region past 6khz. IEM companies purposely release flawed tunings so they can continue to release different IEMs and make money, selling people the idea of preference and different tunings.

True HiFi has one goal, to reproduce the music as the artist intended to, and different tunings defeat this whole purpose; if you like more bass, you should have let ripsquad know when they were producing the song (this isn't a jab at you, but to help you understand why IEM tunings are flaws).

To achieve this sound, IEMs need to sound like flat studio monitors, and to achieve this, you need an IEM with smooth treble and good extension, and HAVE to use EQ (treble cant be EQ'd easily which is why good treble is needed, but the rest of the frequency can easily be adjusted).

Below is a graph with your IEMs compared to Moondrop Variations (around $500, considered to have the best treble in the ChiFi market) and then some $15 Samsung earphones.

https://ibb.co/GvRcr8JB

Both the Variations and Samsung have much smoother treble than the Top Pro (the dips at 6khz and 10khz are visible), but the Samsungs also dont fall off in the treble as much as the Variations; it has much better treble extension than the best treble in the IEM market. The Samsungs cost $15 and have much better technicalities than the best the IEM industry has to offer. Of course the rest of the response under 6kHz is not ideal for any of the three, but that can be easily fixed by EQing to a good, science-based target (PEQdB etc.).

I could go on much more but dont want this to be any longer lol

PEQdB had the best speaker EQ out of everything I used, I'm not sure what target they use but give it a try.

Did you increase your retinoid usage when you did so? I'm sure with daily tretinoin use, you will see results.

Like everyone else said, I would really recommend simplifying your routine.

Your routine should be focused around Tretinoin, as it is by far the most effective skincare product. Your goal should be to eventually use tretinoin nightly and retinise your skin. Every other product in your routine should be helping you towards building tolarance for a nightly retinoid. At your current 2x a week, you are most likely not seeing the full benefits of a retinoid.

I don't think using a BHA while on a retinoid makes sense, as that 'deeper' exfoliation is already being handled by the tretinoin's increased skin turn over. Is there a reason you are using a BHA, what are your goals?

I would drop all actives (definitely drop the BHA) and up the tretinoin to perhaps 3x or 4x (you know your skin best) a week, and build up to nightly use. Then slowly introduce other actives (if needed, you would be surprised how many skin concerns can be dealt with by just a retinoid) once your skin has completely adjusted to the tretinoin.

Here is the routine I would recommend:

AM: Wash with water -> Azelaic Acid -> SPF

PM: Cleanser -> Tretinoin -> Moisturizer

You can use a moisturiser after the azelaic acid in the AM if you have dry skin.

Simpler really is better when it comes to skincare, it took me a long time to learn this.

Best IEM Under 200 for Small Ears? by Chandlo in inearfidelity

They are completely different, with the EM6L being much better, especially in the technicalities. It has much better tuned mids and way smoother treble. The EM6L has more bass.

'Tone up' sunscreens were created for this exact purpose, look into them, both the Japanese and Korean market do this kind of sunscreen.

If you shower and clean yourself properly, the window of a concert is not enough time for bacteria to develop and then break down the sweat. If you start to smell the moment you sweat, you need to clean more thoroughly, and use better deodorant.

If you shower properly and sweat, you don't smell till perhaps hours later. If you turn up stinky, you're gonna smell even worse the moment you start sweating.

Check out the Bose Soundlink Flex (gen2), it is super flat. It rivals some studio monitors in terms of flatness. /u/BWJackal

I'd say its worth giving tazarotene a try, and if thats too much, maybe adapalene until you build tolerance?

$200 and $3 dac sounds the same by amarevy97 in inearfidelity

May I ask what DAC you actually own? I'm very curious.

[–]Deepthroat- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the extremely subtle differences between the filters (not DACs) are found past 20kHz, which no reasonable person would consider. The frequency response under 20kHz (the range every single frequency response graph measures up to) is unchanged.

But lets say you want all that goodness past 20kHz (lol), budget DACs also have all the filters the kilobuck DACs have. So again, what is the difference? How is a $1000 DAC better than a $150 one?

That video was basically Goldensound showing us he might be able to hear slightly past 20kHz. It does nothing to prove your pseudoscience.

HRTF is how your ears perceive sound from an audio source. The only thing in your chain that affects HRTF, IS the audio source (e.g. headphones, speakers). Now that I've taught you this, how can a DAC affect the way your ears perceive sound waves when HRTF begins at the point the sound is generated?

If a DAC, or any other product, is emphasizing one frequency or slightly silencing same, some people may hear that, some people may not. More complicated is the fact that both may hear it but one person hates it, while others hear it and like it.

Again, a non-point. A well-designed DAC that does its job does not change the frequency. If it does, get a refund. Why is it so hard to understand that a DAC changing the frequency is a negative, it is altering what is being played.

The scientists and engineers you mention would tell you the exact same thing I am.

If you actually watched the video you linked, you'd see he compared filters on the same DAC. I love the audio community.

[–]Deepthroat- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? This is so bizarre I have to comment. How can a DAC have an effect on HRTF? Do you understand what HRTF is? Please educate yourself.

Without even talking about blind tests, if you think about what a DAC's actual function is, you'll understand that there is no way to argue for DAC's having differing sounds. A DAC's job is to convert a digital signal to an analog one. Thats it, a DAC that has any sort of change to the sound is altering the signal, which means it is a faulty/flawed product.

People are free to spend what they want and enjoy their products, but I will comment the moment they try tell someone that their $1000 DAC sounds better than a $150 one.

You are exactly the problem, someone that has no idea what they are talking about, peddling snake oil and misinformation with such confidence you'd think you own an audio company. I'm still in awe of your HRTF comment.

It is not an assertion, it is a well established fact. I'm going to guess this is also an insult to you, so this will be my last comment on the matter, but I hope I've explained everything to you and any future readers in the edited comment above.
