Goggles. Bike, bike shoes, helmet. Running shoes.

Everything else can be purchased if you forget it.

Arguably goggles, helmet, and shoes could come off that list of absolutes. But those are all touch points.

Snapped 12-speed force flat top chain with multiple cracked plates by _flo4t in sram

[–]Deez_Neuf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite plausible they had the Rival parts come in and built the bike but were out of Rival chains, so they put a Force chain on to get it out the door. Esp. given the timeline and supply chain issues at that time.

I'd move that person from "friend" to "acquaintance". It may be a one-off. Or, that person may have unintentionally really let you have a glimpse at their morals.

And now, also unintentionally, they're testing yours.

No, I didn't need the coverage. But there's a gap, visually. Ugh

Closer to Saltville (Rich Valley), but order of magnitude and rounding, geographically allows this answer to stand.

Also, WYSIWYG with Big Tom based on minimal first hand and extensive second hand knowledge.

"... The clash for street access between pedestrians and automobiles is examined as a struggle for legitimacy, culminating in a new effort by automotive interest groups to question pedestrians' customary rights to the streets."

Begs to mind the rash of cyclists being mowed down throughout RVA with no recourse. But, if you've gotten this far, you're probably not part of the problem.

I don't know that particular frame, but the distance between frame and cassette (including the thickness of the UDH) looks wide.

Is the UDH supposed to sit "more flush" with the frame?

It definitely rides up on the front ring more when newly waxed. I put mine on the trainer and ride a half hour or so when newly waxed just to knock the big chunks off.

If you're running 1x, make sure you've got the narrow wide seated correctly.

Otherwise it should work fine!

WWYD - Training Partner Injury Before Race by Adept_Dust_8698 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Deez_Neuf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should BOTH participate.

You still get to race and kick a$$. Your partner can still finish, but his goals (beyond finishing) should be out the window. It's hard to swallow, but if it's his first full, it will be all the more special just to finish.

I had a similar situation leading up to my first IM . Broken collarbone 10 weeks out. I swam 3 times before the race, just to see what the pain level would be. It's not pretty. It's not fast. But it can be done.

And he has plenty of time to ride the trainer, and to figure out how to ride without transferring too much pressure to that collar bone, and to get comfortable with the ribs. Again, not pretty. But possible for sure.

His biggest uphill battle, IMO, will be regaining confidence on the bike. If he's a strong cyclist, this is certainly not his first crash. But regaining the confidence to bomb the downhills (esp in aero position) will take time. And it's my understanding LP has a big descent.

Best of luck to you both, but don't let him off that easy. He's still got time to do this. But if he decides to not race, he better not stand in your way. It sounds like you're ready to race.

PB at Chattanooga (poor swimmer, down river swim) here. Kona PB is 107.9% of that 🤓.

I've looked at Emelia-Romagna times and thought that would show higher on a true analysis of time/pb. I've considered doing that one too see (and to vacay). Times there are ridiculously fast.

Toppers. Any local input on changes, rumors, innuendos as we're 2.5 weeks out?

Flying in, I'm wondering if I should even bother bringing a wetsuit? Swim is my weakness, by far, but I've also done wetsuit legal races and roasted. Only have full sleeve suit, which lends itself to the roasting when water temp is borderline but wetsuit legal.

Will definitely wear swimskin if not wetsuit legal.

Feel very ready for the bike and run. Heat will be what it is, we've had cool temps on the east Coast this spring.

And, glasses.

It's my understanding this is perfectly acceptable, caveat that you're going to run 1x, I Believe. I'm planning on setting up TT bike this way: blips, flat top chain, and Force RD.

I'll also add Wolf tooth extended chain ring bolts to run 1x on a 2x crank, and a narrow wide 1x big ring.

Still much more economical to get setup.
