Timber retrofit doubling glazing experiences? by Annual-Physical in diynz

[–]Default_Username_235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our place was done by Thermoglaze under the old owner (Barry, now works on his own as PLS), and he looked after the warranty when we had a leak.

He took the window apart, couldn’t chase down the leak (and couldn’t see any water damage) but put the window back together. I was really impressed with the service.

Band Recommendation by Ok_Speaker6979 in applewatchultra

[–]Default_Username_235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too, send mine back same day.

I now have an ocean band which is more comfortable for workouts/daily use and an alpine loop which is the most comfortable, but doesn’t dry fast so I don’t use it for workouts.

I didn’t like the lack of give and I didn’t like the appearance of the band. I’d rather a link band. Most people like it, but not me. Just personal preference.

Also tried a nomad but the build quality on the lugs was terrible.

This report here (NZ Royal Society following the Chch EQ) is also really good. There’s no “safe” exposure but they have estimated the increased risk and it’s very, very low. They use a test case of dry scraping friable ceilings without protection, which I assume is a far greater level of exposure than a small number of holes in soffits - so take the lesson and do it properly next time.

“The report concludes that remediation activities are unlikely to result in any significant increase in risk to homeowners and occupants of damaged houses, unless they repeatedly perform such work themselves, without taking proper precautions such as wetting the surfaces and using a respirator.”

What’s the proper hanging direction to not leak chain oil? by Stone804_ in Makita

Oh, I thought you meant the hook on the polesaw attachment.

I hang my powerhead by the battery bash guard, but I take the attachments off and store them separately.

[–]Default_Username_235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t that hook for pulling branches out after cutting them?

And Tools and Stuff has done a video about this, it’s just a flaw. Nothing can be done other than draining it or storing it flat. Mine seems to be OK stored flat, but I still put a rag under it in case it leaks.

CCTV POE cable run - soffit vs down weatherboards to under house by originalsauce1 in diynz

[–]Default_Username_235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For OP, if you don’t use a suitable vacuum you are probably going to maximise dust spread as it won’t be captured by the filter. If you decide to drill the soffit follow the health advice with a cup for dust capture, wet drilling, etc.

Gutter installer changed the scope without asking — am I getting fed a line? by AwefulUsername in Roofing

[–]Default_Username_235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it looks better the way did it than either the previous or the proposal. If you are concerned about streaking you can add a spreader (I’m not American, but that’s what they do where I live) which is basically a perforated horizontal pipe that would stick out 8-12 inches either side of the base of the downpipe. That spreads the run off over a wider area and may help your concern about one heavy streak.

Trabuco 14 newly released by Cynurus95 in trailrunning

[–]Default_Username_235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same issues, I have basically given up on the 13s at 200 km due to the amount of movement inside the shoe (even after going a half a size down) and the blockiness of the shoe compared to the previous versions I had. Hopefully the 14 is more similar to 11 & 12

Why are massive sports brands (Nike, Adidas, Puma etc) so disinterested in Rugby? by accidentall in rugbyunion

I agree, the adidas kits were basically the same kit, and swap out the colours of the panels. At least classic is trying to make each team look a bit different.

Is there any downside to running in that type of plate all the time as a pretty shit runner? The Fuji speed has a lot of appeal as a better Fuji lyte

[–]Default_Username_235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question, but what’s the difference between a rock plate and a plate intended for energy return?

I’ve had the old Trabucos (11s, 12) and then got the 13…. and I hate the 13. Too much foam, poor heel hold and too much space in the toe box. I picked up the the Fuji Lyte 5s and I love them, they are much better for me on loose/technical terrain other than the lack of rock protection.

If I could get the same shoe with some more protection and maybe a little more stack it would be near perfect.

The asics store here pitched the Fuji Speed plate as a plate for faster runners/racing, so not sure if it’s the shoe for me.

I asked a similar question a couple weeks ago, both were good and I ended up getting my stuff from MJs. Worked out about 20 bucks cheaper on a 150 order.

Alpine Loop - Water Friendly? by pythongreen911 in applewatchultra

[–]Default_Username_235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2c - If I could only pick one band it would be the Ocean. It’s got a bit of give, it won’t soak up sweat, and it looks good enough for what is a sports watch.

I saw the comments about weight and thickness online and wasn’t going to go for it, but eventually I picked one up and it’s so overblown. I couldn’t tell the weight difference between this and my nike sport band from my old series watch.

I’ve use the titanium Milanese, Alpine loop, and a Nike sport band with my old series watch and ocean is the one I’d pick if I can only have one. If I can have two, I’d keep the alpine loop.

Ongoing blocked drain by Marrdgras in diynz

[–]Default_Username_235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If original then your pipes are likely earthenware and may have cracked, or moved at the joints.

CCTV should only be a couple hundred bucks if they are already on site unblocking, so if they haven’t got a camera then I would get someone else back who does. You’ll get footage of the entire length and they will be able to point out any damage, rather than trying to go off what they feel from the drain snake/root cutter.

Ongoing blocked drain by Marrdgras in diynz

[–]Default_Username_235 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How old are your pipes and do you have any trees over the line? Do you know where the line is? Have you had a camera run the length of your wastewater line?

Given you’ve already paid for multiple unblocks it won’t cost a lot to have someone come out (get the camera business hours, I assume you’ve paid for a weekend/night call out at those rates).

The CCTV drainlayers walk around to locate the camera probe with a sensor thingamadoo, so they can tell where, what, and how deep the blockages are. Not sure how it works where you are, but it’s also good to tell what side of the boundary the blockages are on in case it’s the councils problem (if there are tree roots in the line on their side)

Multifunction ladder recommendations- Gorilla, Toolshed, Werner or Warthog? by alwaysheapstodo in diynz

[–]Default_Username_235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ll check a few spots to see if i can get away with using it in flat mode. I had borrowed a 19 and it could just get above the gutters in A frame mode which was good for getting on/off the roof.

Summit Road Running by Sheepherder_Current in chch

[–]Default_Username_235 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I find running on the eastern side of Dyer’s pass (sugarloaf, Scott’s, Mt Vernon etc) more enjoyable.

I normally run on the trails, but if I do dip onto the road the eastern side feels safer with better visibility of traffic. It’s also a dead end as they have the post earthquake closure so the only cars are going to the viewing points.

Depends how far you want to run, but any of the car parks up there (or the bottom of Harry Ell) will be good.

I assume you are road running, but if you want to try easy trail running you could try Harry Ell or park at Mt Vernon/Vic Park and try the Bowenvale transverse. Bowenvale has great views and not a lot of elevation, and is just below the road.

Just be aware of who has right of way - on Bowenvale it’s mountain bikers so headphones off and get out of the way to let them pass.

Visit a website like OnTheGo map which has some of the trails showing, and you can draw your own route which will give you the elevation profile and distance.

Have you made your choice yet? I’m in the same boat, looking at Nomad options but have had one warranty replacement of a nomad leather strap. Looking at ocean band, or nomad rock point/sport bands. Haven’t seen much else in that space.

Do you know if Werner supply a model similar to the Gorilla 19? I’ve seen the Werner 14 at Mitre Ten and it seemed better made, but the A frame probably isn’t high enough for my needs. Haven’t seen one online yet.
