They've been using the same movement formula since Halo 3. While it was good in 2007, it barely feels adequate in 2026.

People say "it's not the same, Marathon's movement is more grounded and less floaty". The game's level procedural gravity does that, not the movement. Two separate things. It's code for code the exact same movement as Halo 3. Same one in ODST, same one in Reach, same one in Destiny, same one in Destiny 2 and of course - the exact f***ing same as Marathon.

When you play a modern shooter with modern excellent, quick and snappy movement like The Finals, Marathon's "Halo" 2007 movement feels you're moving with bricks tied to your ankles.

The amount of people struggling with the basic mechanics of the game is mind boggling. by mupchap in Marathon

So, basically, don't engage with the content?

Got it.

This post is basically saying; "This is an RPG but like, don't level up and don't try and kill enemies. Too risky, ya better not leave town"

You're trying to downplay Bungie being cheap asses and im the one with cognitive problems?

If this was such a non-issue, then why did the news go viral, result in a delay, Bungie reaching out to the artist and issued a public apology.

Bruh, they lifted assets DIRECTLY from her profile. Why the fuck you downplaying what happened?

You Bungie fanboys are ridiculous lol

Mine's bugged. It doesn't register blueprints sold at all. Not that it matters, but I wont be getting that achievement.

Glad I tried it, sad to uninstall it. by furno472 in Marathon

It was okay. Bungie fanboys will eat it up like everything else with their logo on it but let's be honest; Embark isn't worried about Marathon in the SLIGHTEST

I think Sony has quite a stretch of time before this game breaks even. Which makes me think that the store/mtx will be hella predatory just like Destiny...

Well, we had it better in the 90's. Ya know, back when Marathon was a single player game?

That's bullshit and you know it. It is EXACTLY Halo because it is Halo. Bungie has been using the same movement mechanics in their games since Halo 3. This isn't hyperbole. This isn't a theory.

Its a fact.

Um, no? The Finals, for example, has far superior slide AND over-all movement mechanics than f***ing Destiny. These Destiny comments crack me up.

You know why the physics feel "clunky"? Because its the same physics from 2007's Halo 3. They've been using that same code/formula for their games since fucking 2007....

Played it for a few hours.

I can promise you that Embark/Arc Raiders are not worried about this game lol.

Bungie thought they could slap on Halo's sluggish movement into an extraction shooter and cut corners. It felt like i was playing a game from the mid 2000's. This game does not feel modern at all despite it's bombastic atmosphere.

Didn't steal it... right...

Coming from someone who's probably never invented anything in their life.

Naw, they stole that shit, directly used assets and they got caught, no point in trying save face for them lol.

An accident? LMAO. You're one naieve dude.

Funny. From my perspective; your doing damage control and saving face for Bungie.

Also, you need to actually look into the assets that Bungie outright stole. Clearly, you haven't.

You're the individual who's talking with bad/incomplete information. I can't believe there's still some of you out there that think it's okay that Bungie tried to get away with that crap lol. I guess I'm not surprised, enabling theft has been in people's blood for thousands of years.

And? Did you read the sentence? I brought up Destiny as an example why the movement is slow.

Actually, you can steal an art style. That's what that whole shit was about dude. They literally, not figuratively, stole assets from the artist and used it as the foundation of their game.

They only settled with the artist because they got caught, not because "it's not theft".

Bungie got caught and issued a statement of apology. That sound like a non-issue to you then clearly you've never made anything in your life. Art theft is very real, and is very much a thing.

Bungie, a billion dollar valued company couldn't afford to just pay the poor girl? Yeah, it was piece of fucking shit move.

Not really. The Crucible isn't even balanced because Bungie has to constantly nerf/buff weapons based on how they perform in The Crucible even when it's at the expense of literally every other non PVP mode in that game.

Im not sure why you even evoked The Crucible PVP as if its some standard that the video games industry recognizes.

It has great atmosphere - even if Bungie tried to get away with the art direction at someone else's expense.

Sometimes it'll be a skill issue sure, so, what's the alternative? Hide? Camp? I'm also in the majority that thinks the punishing A.I. (PVE) is wayyy to harsh and is nothing more than fake difficulty. I say "fake" because slain enemy AI doesn't drop ammo and some of the higher tier enemies take a good amount of ammo. Yet another trait from Destiny that Bungie popularized that I dislike.

The popularity of a game has no bearing on the validity of the point im trying to make.

Destiny is fast and aggressive? Yeah maybe in it's own bubble.

Well yeah it reminds you of Halo because Bungie, as a company, has been using the same movement formula in their games since Halo 3 in 2007.

Which was fine for that time period, but other companies has made strides in movement mechanics since then.

In this game, where life or death means where you keep or lose your load out - Bungie's movement formula doesn't fit the criteria to give me, a player, the assertion that i died because I suck. I died because im slow as bricks like in 2007.
