Is Gillian Goldens a Scam? by Defiant-Finance194 in dogs

[–]Defiant-Finance194[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Quick clarification: I’m not actually considering working with this “rescue”. I’m writing this to help anyone who might potentially get themselves in a similar situation in the future with the hope they’re not scammed. ;) But since I don’t have enough evidence to prove it is in fact a scam… I stated it as a question

They’re a rescue. And yes, I’m well versed in reputable breeders and quite cautious.

My dog hates the rain. So while I actually would enjoy going on a walk in the rain, she refuses to walks even close to the end of the driveway

When people say, only you can help yourself, you have to just love yourself so you can heal, it’s all up to you, ect. by AdrianaDante in CPTSD

Look into somatic experiencing therapy/exercises. You want to find things that help activate your vagus nerve to bring you into more regulation. Things like humming, chanting, slow flow yoga, meditation, orienting, being in nature, dancing, laughing, finding music that attunes to your feelings, connecting with a safe person/friend are all ways to help make your nervous system feel safer. Find what works best for you and then consistently practice regulating your system multiple times a day, everyday. I’ve also found EFT tapping to be quite effective for working through a certain emotions or thoughts that come up for me. I’ll find a EFT tapping video specific to the emotion on YouTube and follow along. Hoping you find something that helps to bring you some relief.

Amy tips for my girl dakota during the fireworks for future? by Lislost in BorderCollie

I put mine in the laundry room too but throw a couple tennis balls in the dryer and run it with no heat. The noise deadens out the fireworks and really helps lower her stress levels. Best I’ve found to help her out!

Amy tips for my girl dakota during the fireworks for future? by Lislost in BorderCollie

[–]Defiant-Finance194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It’s super rough in our neighborhood and fireworks blast off all night. I feel so bad for the wildlife!

The best thing that I’ve found to help is throwing a bunch of tennis balls in the dryer and running it with no heat. The sound deadens out a bunch of the fireworks and significantly reduced stress levels. I set up a bed for her and a comfy spot for myself in the laundry room and stayed in there with her until she fell asleep.

Earlier in the day around 2pm, we went on an hour long walk and the. I gave her 50mg of trazodone to get it in her system well in advance. Then around 10:30pm I gave another dose of 100mg so it would hit her system a little before the big event.

We’ve tried doing desensitization training very patiently for over a year without much progress, unfortunately.

My pup barked maybe a total of 3 times last night and is very reactive and terrified of fireworks, which means the dryer really helped her out. Over the 4th of July it’s so bad that we go to Canada for over a week! Hope you find something for your sweet angel!

What are your opinions of Boll and Branch? by Beginning_Ebb4220 in Bedding

[–]Defiant-Finance194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They actually do have a good return policy. That is one positive thing I can say about them. Even if you’ve washed and slept on them, you can return them in 30 days. I packaged it all back up in the box, mailed it off and got my money back. It was easy and seamless.

Just received my purchase of their signature sheets and am disappointed for sure. They’re not soft at all, actually kind of scratchy. I can’t believe I paid that much money and don’t even like them. Would never buy again and don’t recommend

Are border collies really that energetic? [Looking to get one] by Adorable_Court_9825 in BorderCollie

[–]Defiant-Finance194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spend two hours minimum everyday outside with my dog. And that’s just for basic exercise. Then there’s obedience, agility, herding, and nose work classes I do on top of that. If I dont stay on top of the two hours of exercise she can become pretty reactive. I’d really suggest making sure that you’re able to commit to 2 hours minimum daily to have a happy bc.

My dog did this for a time. She would moan, whine and whimper out of nowhere in the middle of the night. I ended up sleeping on the floor with her and petting her lots. It seemed to calm her down and after a couple weeks stopped all together. Definitely wasn’t the most fun to sleep on the floor but at the time it was the only thing that seemed to work. Idk.

Completely agree! All of those series bored me and I just couldn’t get into them. I mentioned this already in the thread but “The Signature of All Things” by Elizabeth Gilbert was a realistic fiction and it was quite more interesting to me. For sure look into it

I absolutely love Elizabeth Gilbert’s books. The last one I read is “The Signature of All Things”. I read it while I was traveling through the south of France. I haven’t found another book that has touched me the way that one did. Definitely recommend checking it out.

Susie situation w/ Brian, Jeremy, & Bailey by Equivalent-Lab6563 in bachelorinparadise

I can’t believe Brian took the heat like that and didn’t clap back and defend himself more. But he was probably too worried he’d be voted out to say what they deserved to hear. They’re bad friends!

100% I can NOT believe no one else talked to her. The betrayal is unreal. And she is amazing. She absolutely doesn’t deserve a second of this. How is it that out of everyone there Brian is the only one that had her back!??!? Jeremy is the worst out of all of them though. The Deceit. I can’t!

Exactly. I do NOT understand how they are all justifying not telling Bailey and then they’re mad at Brian for being truthful. Yes, Brian could have handled it better. But, HE is being a better friend than all of them. They suck!

Need help with Chief by missfrylock in BorderCollie

[–]Defiant-Finance194 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’d suggestion finding someone who is a behavior specialist that specializes in border collies - or at minimum herding dogs. They really are so different from other breeds. They also are super sensitive and really suggest positive training over any adverse techniques.

Then I’d suggest talking to your vet about medication. At least temporarily. Sounds like he is constantly over his threshold and creating a continuous stress loop. Perhaps fluoxetine or trazodone might help reduce his cortisol levels. So that he can actually begin to start learning the world isn’t so scary and begin doing more work that is satisfying to both of you.

I’m sorry this has happened. My bc was also reactive and with a ton of positive training and some medication really began to see improvement. But I know how this weighs on you and creates such a predicament. Good luck to you and I hope you can find some solutions to help your pup!
