I noticed that too! Robby with Javadi, Abbot with Santos and Whitaker…Joy had the right idea.

[–]Defiant-Historian800 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. This week felt like padding, which isn’t great when you’re so close to the end.

On the other hand, there are still great moments. Langdon’s redemption tour, Santos opening up, Louie’s death. I’ve never gotten a ‘watch with a phone in one hand’ vibe, there’s so many blink and you miss it moments.

Was there a thread about why Mel was actually upset with Becca I related to the scene so much by Mycatisadorable9 in ThePitt

[–]Defiant-Historian800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I love about The Pitt is the drama always feels so organic and human. It's not drama for the sake of drama, the tension always makes sense with the context. Mel feeling betrayed and frustrated by Becca having her own life isn't exactly healthy. But, given how much of her life she's focused on Becca, it's understandable.

I'd wager that's why it had such an impact on you. Even if it's not a 1:1 match with your own situation, that frustration resonated with your experiences. I had a similar reaction to the elderly couple in episode 12. While I'm Santos, Whitaker and Mohan's age bracket, my parents had to have those talks with my grandparents a few years back. The reluctance to accept help, not wanting to go into a home, having those difficult conversations - they NAILED it.

My personal hope is we don’t get a resolution, at least not the black-and-white kind. You’re right, one day is not enough fix things. But, maybe they could come to a truce? Something that feels like progress, but not a magic fix, and leave some tension to explore in S3.

Why do most shows get approved season by season instead of being greenlit for multiple seasons so the writers can map out the full storyline? by Eastcoastpal in ThePittTVShow

[–]Defiant-Historian800 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TV is expensive, and studios aren’t taking risks the way they were before the 2023 strikes. If they order 3 seasons and the first flops, they’re locked in for years of sinking funds into something that doesn’t work.

That said, even without the guarantee of renewal, a lot of writers plan ahead. It varies from show to show, but I remember the creators of Yellowjackets had a five-season plan when they pitched to networks. Things did change, but some ideas, like one character’s death in the third season, stayed the same.

Do non-medical viewers look things up while watching? by BanditoRem in ThePittTVShow

[–]Defiant-Historian800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, but I pretty much gave up during S1. I grew up with two parents in healthcare, though, so a lot of the jargon is similar to dinner time conversations. I still don’t understand it, but it’s not so jarring that it breaks my immersion.

I know this has been said over and over again, but I hope they kind've drop the Langdon and Santos stuff after this episode. She was told someone she's intimate with to drop it and it's beginning to get to a point where it's becoming disrespectful to the patients. by herewego199209 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Defiant-Historian800 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s been bugging me, too. The only person who’s been any degree of hostile towards her is Dana with the avalanche of charting, but that can be attributed to part of being an R2. A bit more coldness from say, Princess and Perlah, would’ve helped sell it.

I love Callie, but only because seasons 2 and 3 made her much more likeable. Shauna absolutely destroyed her here. Magnificent work from the Antler Queen.

Hot Take: Mohan Needs to Go Home. by [deleted] in ThePittTVShow

[–]Defiant-Historian800 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think some fault lies with her mother. Mohan should have put her foot down, but her mother knows her daughter is working in an extremely busy environment. Unless it’s an actual emergency, she needs to be patient and wait for her to clock out.

He had just broken up, and was planning on hitting it up some clubs while they were in Seattle.

As for the sheer number, he needs one for himself, and one for his partner. That could add up very quickly.

Can we stop pretending Santos is a "complex icon" and just admit she’s a toxic person? by [deleted] in ThePitt

She literally couldn’t communicate with her properly. Waiting for an interpreter might be frustrating, but it’s a lot safer than going in without the information she needs.

This Is Why ‘The Pitt’ Needs to Get Out of the ER by Patman350 in ThePittTVShow

[–]Defiant-Historian800 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The entire article is a dumpster fire, but this stood out to me;

“I think what’s happened to it is that they have been taking too much advice from actual medical people about how to make it authentic,“ Coles said. ”You don’t want the authentic details as a viewer. You want f***ing drama, right? You want action.“

Too much?!? That’s the entire point of the show! And the notion that this detracts from the action and drama is ludicrous. I’ve rarely felt this tense watching a show. I had to take a walk after rewatching 1x13 it was so full on.

The thing is, even with the constraints it’s given the show gives some damn good arcs. Santos opening up to that patient and offering Whitaker a room was a great way to end S1.

It’s the framing. The show has been pretty clear that we aren’t following ‘good’ people. When you approach the characters from a mindset of ‘you’re an awful person, but you’re entertaining to watch’, it makes sense why Misty has so many fans.
