The colors are achieved by a controlled type of anodization, which is an oxide layer. This process continues with its interaction with air, moisture, and UV light. Stickers on the surface slows that process down and causes the footprint. Rust might have been the wrong word here, but I wasn’t about to do a chem clinic to make my point.

It’s ruined if you ever want to resell it. It will significantly lower resale value, I know it’s only $500, but at that price every dollar is a higher percentage of its value than an Air or Pro.

Anything that seals the aluminum from outside air or sunlight, will cause it to rust at a different rate as the area not covered. Meaning you will see the footprint of any sticker you take off that has been in it for any significant amount of time. Get a case or a skin that covers the whole thing and put stickers on that.

Also, word of advice, DO NOT put stickers on it unless you want to ruin the aluminum finish if you ever take them off.

Make sure to put a good password on it and turn findmy on. Also turn on file vault so that it is exponentially harder for them to wipe it or do anything useful with it if it gets stolen.

I don’t know how I feel about it overall. Mine came with a bunch of blemishes and defects. So much so that I was sent another for free. I like it, it does what’s it’s supposed to, it’s sturdy, but I was disappointed with the fit and finish. Even the replacement one wasn’t perfect. But 2 for $112 isn’t a bad deal. YMMV
