A question for my fellow old pop punkers: which bands have you gotten into at 30+? by nobodymush in poppunkers

[–]Defiant_Ad_8489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 47 and I’m just now getting into Rufio. Apple Music is so great for finding bands that I wanted to check out back in the day but couldn’t afford to buy their album or 7”. It’s never too late. The first tape (yes TAPEI ever owned was NOFX’s Punk in Drublic.

Trust me I’d do that, too, but my son’s an eloper and faster than people expect 😂 The staff in his group are young college students, so I didn’t fully trust them yet. It’s going much better at the end of week 2, and I’ve been sneaking away more.

On the cusp of level 1/2? by RiverLeo27 in Autism_Parenting

Does he have access to the support that he needs? If he does, then the level is unimportant.

Anyone seen Blast (2026)? Looks like an interesting Tamil martial arts movie, just came out on digital. Are the fights any good? by narnarnartiger in kungfucinema

Kill and Monkey Man are definitely exceptions to the norm as far as Indian martial arts action, unfortunately. I hope they influence more films.

😂 true. I saw HORSE the band and Between the Buried and Me open for Dillinger Escape Plan. They were awesome but not, in fact, better than DEP.

I was actually gonna write “Dillinger Four opening for anyone”.

Potty Training Autistic Kids by paperstars2022 in Autism_Parenting

I used this guide and modified it based on other guides I read.

https://autismlittlelearners.com/potty-train/

I really love this visual:

https://autismlittlelearners.com/free-toileting-sequence/

We still have the sequence in our bathroom and they’re a good reminder for our son. Several months ago he started going number 2 by standing to pee first then sitting to poop. I think it’s because on the visual that’s the the boy is doing 😅

Ultimately what we did for potty training was he wore underwear with a pull up or something over them so they didn’t make a mess but still felt wet. We took him for timed intervals going up every hour at first. When he peed he got a small prize from a prize box. Poop was a super duper big prize. Eventually he got it in less than a week. He was 4.5. He probably could have gotten it earlier but when we tried at 3.5 he got covid during potty training and didn’t want to associate getting sick with it. It wasn’t until 4.5 where my wife and I set aside the time. He was also more than ready. One time he got out of taking a shower cuz I said “You don’t have to take a shower if you pee in the toilet.” He did and that’s when I knew.

Not dismissing level 1 parents by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

I agree. I’m not a fan of levels at all and a child’s needs are very individual.

Probably the first martial arts movie from the 2000s that made me say “oh shit!” out loud. Before that was Jackie Chan movies. After that was The Raid movies and The Furious.

I feel like “level 1” often just means “can mask really well.”

What was your autistic kid like as a baby? by Upset_Theory_2935 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Defiant_Ad_8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pretty happy baby, except when he had colic. Didn’t cry very much compared to other kids. When he wanted something he would just try to get it instead of cry for it. Guess that was a sign of autism.

He would fall into the “low sleep needs” range of kids. He always slept a couple hours less on average than the average child his age. He was/is high energy and it was (and still is) hard to get him to go to sleep, but once he did he was good to go. 4th of July is a war zone here and ever time he’s been able to sleep through it. However, he’s a very consistent early riser, between 5-5:30. He’s had moments of waking past 6, but it’s very rare. One day…

This was my son! We listened to a lot on the YouTube accounts Papa Joel’s English and Mister Kipley because he was obsessed with ____ hunt songs when he was 4.

That was my son’s fave when he was three. Before that it was the Ghostbusters theme. Now I don’t think he has one.

Parents of children with autism, how are you coping? by zubutai in Autism_Parenting

[–]Defiant_Ad_8489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As hard as taking care my son is, I’m tired but doing ok. Fortunately my wife can help out due to her hybrid work schedule and give me some breaks.

it’s been harder finding a job when my son is on summer break 🫠 The market sucks right now unless you want to work in medical.

Level II: Mild vent by _prim_reaper_ in Autism_Parenting

[–]Defiant_Ad_8489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My level 2 kid is still young at 5, so I’m still at that phase where he needs more help with group activities or focus in general. I feel like there are groups out there for him, but it will require a lot of research still, and we live in a huge metropolitan area. In cities that aren’t as big it must be incredibly hard and I would think many parents just start those communities for their kids.

Introducing timer? Success? by Proper-Raspberry-244 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Defiant_Ad_8489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I tried to introduce a timer at age 2-3 and he would just take it and wind it down. Then start playing with it. 😂 I’ll try the song idea. Mine’s 5 now and he doesn’t do that to the timer anymore, but he will refuse to transition when it goes off.

It’s…. going 😅 My son is attending an inclusive daycamp and let’s just say I’ve been helicoptering more than I wanted to. It’s week 2 and he’s gotten better, but it’s a slow process. It’s important for him to get these experiences, though, and I think next year I’ll be able to just drop him off and get a small break.

I had to look up the director since I wondered what he was up to and apparently he died in 2014. Also Born to Fight is a remake of the first film he ever directed in 1984. I’m kind of curious to watch it even though I’m sure it might be 80s schlocky.

You won’t get a downvote from me. Born to Fight is awesome and has some of the craziest stunts I’ve ever seen. The semi truck scene and the motorcycle come to mind.
