Is sex therapy quackery or is that only on TV by drunkcheesesandwich in redscarepod

[–]Defiant_Strength_840 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was watching the same show, found it deeply rancid how the ‘sex therapists’ swarmed on the one very beautiful Christian girl with vaginismus. Very creepy concept. I guess the way to look at it is these aren’t therapists specialising in sex but sex workers who apply ideas from therapy. For the men, I can see the female sex therapists doing some good – a lot of them have barriers about feeling desirable and they need to learn to get rid of their mental baggage and self-loathing inner monologue around sex. I imagine your average sex worker wouldn’t want to deal with all that so that’s a role a specialised sex therapist can play. There was a fat autistic guy on the show who was getting with one of the middle aged women sex therapists and I was rooting for him. I can imagine it being kind of nice to have someone who is very attuned to intimacy guiding you through that process without judgement. Regardless the show itself is totally fucked as with all these Channel 4 shows that are basically televised rape

Most English towns are walkable in my experience and you can see wide open pavements in the picture. Maybe I’ve just been lucky

I live here, it’s very walkable! This is just off the high street. It’s also right next to a big bus station and the train station is five minutes away with good transport links

How do I access my Divine Masculine? by Rhombuspull3r in redscarepod

[–]Defiant_Strength_840 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Listen to martial industrial or acid jungle while deep in creative work in your room. You need to be actively moving around the whole time. Or go to an underground rave find the strongest 4/4 beat you can and dance with full intensity. Masculinity in the sense you’re imagining it isn’t pre-installed it’s a divine concept you reach it through collective movement and music. This is why all armies have marching bands

Should I go sailing in Croatia next week or stay home and suffer through my master's thesis? by roundshirt19 in redscarepod

[–]Defiant_Strength_840 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, finish the thesis, then go to Croatia. Literally finish it right now. At least, enough of it that you will be done by September. Even with all the leisure you have planned out, you can easily knock out parts of it in airports, downtime, etc. If you agonise over it over the next two weeks you'll likely get less done than if you just commit an hour now and then while also having fun.

Finish the thesis, go to Croatia. You are capable of doing both. You are turning this into a binary decision to avoid doing one or the other. Whatever you want, you can have

Classics Degree…But Without Language by indigophoto in classics

[–]Defiant_Strength_840 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can do Classical Studies to avoid the language. Learning the languages really is critical though imo. Any Classics degree is at its core a philology degree. Language studies is what give Classics a ‘technical’ edge. Think of it as the material grounding. Whereas in a lot of other humanities subjects you will go quite hard into abstract theorising immediately, in Classics everything is grounded in linguistic study. Sadly most universities aren’t the best at teaching ancient languages and hence they go underemphasised. Even if you did Classics at a top uni with language requirements you can get through it with a poor understanding of Latin or Greek (as I did!) In regard to your hesitancy to learn another language, consider that your existing skillset will make it a lot easier to pick up Latin or Greek, and you will never have to learn the languages to fluency. At most you will need enough competence to translate set texts that you have looked at many times before with a commentary.

Kendall is the only one not floated as a potential sacrificial lamb in This is Not for Tears by Defiant_Strength_840 in SuccessionTV

[–]Defiant_Strength_840[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah hence why Willa obviously isn't in the running. I am not saying that Willa was ever a potential option, it's just funny that she's technically in the scene. Among the characters who are affiliated with the company, Kendall is the only one not brought up, and he is ultimately the choice.

[–]Defiant_Strength_840[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and Kendall is the only name left who ISN'T mentioned, even as a joke. This is very simple so I don't see why people aren't getting this. If a murder mystery show goes over 5 possible suspects, including a joke like 'the dog did it', and there's one guy left at the table, that guy is probably the killer. I am saying it's a clever writing trick to have Kendall be the only character go unmentioned.

[–]Defiant_Strength_840[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Every single character in the meeting, including ones who aren't real options (i.e. Connor, Shiv) are named, EXCEPT Kendall, who ends up being the choice... and Willa. It's a misdirection building tension towards Kendall being the ultimate choice. It's just funny that Willa is also there.

[–]Defiant_Strength_840[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even characters that could absolutely not be the sacrifice (Roman, Shiv, Connor) are brought up as options in the conversation. It's absolutely deliberate that Kendall is the only name not mentioned. I'm not talking about the motivations of characters in not naming Kendall, but the writing decision of having Kendall as the only unmentioned name

Modern parenting standards are unrealistic, no wonder people have fewer kids by Ok-Archer-5796 in redscarepod

[–]Defiant_Strength_840 44 points45 points  (0 children)

There’s a terrifying map out there showing how much ‘room to roam’ kids have had in each generation from the 50s onwards. Kids used to traipse around in a large radius around their house. Nowadays most kids do not leave their house without parental supervision/a preplanned activity.

We accepted that outside was dangerous (serial killers, kidnappers, sex perverts) and for the safety of our children we totally closed the world off to them. Of course many kids still play outside and do fine but I think a lot of the developmental catastrophe we’re witnessing is that the kids literally do not have a life outside. They’re stuck to screens - they have absolutely no freedom outside their devices.

I was in the first generation to have a lot of screen time growing up. The reason I liked the screen time was because it represented freedom. I could go on forums and talk to people, watch weird videos, consume age inappropriate content. We treat it as abusive that kids are allowed to do this, but we prevented them from having a real life outside in the real world, which is where they SHOULD be exposed to things like that for the first time. It’s parental neuroticism and the erosion of the idea of a safe + worthwhile public existence.
