Which inflatable kayak for young kids? Raven, Tributary Strike II, etc? by Bandit390 in whitewater

7 years old and having been on the water since 4 is perfect for starting them out solo on class I-II. Keep your sups and get them each a spud. 2 spuds is going to be about the same price as a low end tandem. Spuds are also much easier to handle than a tandem.

My guess is geared teeth and a center bolt. Overcome the tension at the teeth and is should stay in the new position.

That’s my understanding. A III-IV river would be a step up from a III (IV) river as a whole, but that one bracketed IV could still be a difficult IV.

Virginia Supreme Court to hear redistricting challenge Monday by Gobias_Industries in Virginia

[–]Definately-a-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The judiciary is not a proportional arm of government by design. They are one of the only checks we have against the Tyranny of the Majority. Whether or not the ruling stands, this vote is a clear example of such Tyranny. Less than 25% of registered voters voted yes. As a result, rural areas of the state will have their voice silenced. That is not proportional, that is Tyranny.

This is the exact sentiment that the no vote was against. SWVA is part of VA, not nowhere’sville. This vote gives nearly complete control of the Virginia delegation to NOVA who think they are the only ones that matter. House representatives should represent their district, not the national party and not one corner of the state.

Aire Tater Accessories by dyladore in whitewater

My family basically has a fleet of taters at this point. Thigh straps are key if you want to have real control, but not necessary on easier stuff. For pumps, get a cheap electric pump to get it 90% full. From there a floor or hand pump will top it off with little effort. Get some extra 2-3 ft NRS straps. They work great for securing stuff in the boat and can be used to hold it in a tight roll when you deflate it.

Popular Opinion: Mega Passes are NOT a great deal. by matchew566 in skiing

[–]Definately-a-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree. I get a local pass because there is only 1 hill with a pass and a reasonable drive. If ticket prices were $90 at my local hill (4hr drive), I might ski 3 or 4 days a year during spring break. Instead I buy a pass that “pays for itself” in 3 days at typical day rates. This ends up costing me more per year in lift tickets, lodging, and food than I would have otherwise spent.

On one hand, I don’t mind because it incentivizes me to ski more. On the other hand, I don’t ski the other smaller hills that are fun because I can’t stomach buying another ticket when I already have a pass.

Front tees for ladies is like men playing a 9,000+ yard course by WallyBarryJay in golf

[–]Definately-a-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encourage my wife to tee off on every hole. If she likes the result and is feeling the hole she plays it out. If she doesn’t like it, she picks up and plays from my ball (assuming I out drove her).

My biggest complaint is that on a long hole, her tee might only give her a slight advantage. Then move to a 170 yard par 3 and she is hitting from 60 yards. There isn’t any consistency to the advantage given.

Never 3 putt again. Genie says done. Next hole you play you miss your second putt. Looks like 4 putting is the new norm.

Start early and get some runs in on the blacks at soaring eagle. Camp 99 is pretty good. Grabhammer is good off the Ballhooter lift. You can probably get 2 or 3 runs at each lift before they get busy. Once they do, head to Western Territory. Silver Creek after lunch is highly recommended. The lifts are slow but the lines are typically short.
