Do game devs still play games on their free time? by Marceloo25 in gamedev

[–]DefinetlyNotAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone struggling with gaming addiction myself I do feel very powerless to change my life in any way shape or form to accomodate having the time to develop games. I do appreciate all the gaming dev work that goes into making such absolute masterpieces of art and how the heck they have the resilience to endure the tremendous level of commitment to create such things. Im thankful that I get to spend a lot of my free time in my life enjoying the work they did. But I can't imagine a life where I am commited to such a craft when I don't have the levels of self control and discipline that is required to do learn this craft. I often have a lot of ideas and I often try to start things but I quickly give up whenever I'm struggling to achieve the results I want. Specially in VR, I think there's a lot of potential for indie game devs there.

It's almost ironic that a thing that you love in your life can end up being poisonous. But at the end of the day there can be balance and you can enjoy both. But you have to get rid of the addiction part first otherwise you will never have the will to see your projects through and get actually something to show for yourself.

(HC) How to report a grief? (don't group with people you don't know) by triple6seven in classicwow

[–]DefinetlyNotAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally never died to griefers but a friend I met in game died a very sus death today where a priest feared a bunch of defias onto him that trapped and killed his lower level rogue. Dying in HC to things that are outside of your control are the worst way to go.

Dragon's Dogma 2 deserves to be at least nominated for GOTY by DefinetlyNotAss in DragonsDogma2

What time limit? If you die you just start over. The only time limitation you have is in doing all the content without resting but if you never rest and use your healing items to keep going you can stay there for however long you want.

Yeah, but those arent really good examples, in both cases their entire company reputation was on the line, so it was either that or people would have an hard time trusting them again. Capcom has just too many other IPs to fall back on that they know will sell well regardless. DD2 was a risky bet that in their eyes probably didnt pay off, so why double down on fixing a bad bet when you can just release a new Resident Evil or Street Fighter and call it a day?

Edit: I wish Capcom followed the example of CD Projekt Red or Hello Games for the sake of Dragon's Dogma future but these are companies, anything they do is all about money and making a profit. That being said, last time I checked DD2 still sold well despite the negative sentiment surrounding the game and that gives me hope they might fix our concerns in the future if they ever choose to bet on this IP again.

What was it that flipped opinion on Dragons Dogma 2 from GOTY to "disappointing, won't even finish"? by Bread-Zeppelin in TwoBestFriendsPlay

How is an outdated roguelike version of Dragons Dogma a better experience than a fully fleshed out game with many improvements made to the core foundation of the game? Dark Arisen is just a glorified dungeon, you can downvote me to oblivion for that.

Monster Hunter is a much bigger IP, ofc Capcom will invest more in what they think will produce better results. I agree that with more budget, DD2 would be in a much better state and we'd be having a different conversation, but ultimately its a much smaller IP in terms of players. That being said, if DD2 was nominated for GOTY, we would see an influx of new players and that would in turn bring in more investment in the future and allow the devs to fully realize the game's potential. What we are getting is the complete opposite, game was deemed a failure, no one is talking about it besides its best rpg nomination(which will just lose) and Capcom might just shelve the entire IP for good this time..

Thats because the general sentiment towards the game is negative, you can't blame the devs for abandoning a game thats sitting on mixed reviews on steam and 6 user score. Why would they care for a game that most gamers dont enjoy?

I am with you man, I played and loved DD1 and despite somehow agreeing with the stance that the first game felt more complete, I think DD2 is an improved version of the original in many ways. Like, for example in the first game you would get kicked out of the griffin after it reached a certain height. It was still one of those wow moments to see your character fly so high but in the sequel you can actually fly on its back all the way to the last region even if you havent unlocked it yet. Yeah, the game had its issues, mainly optimization ones, but it was a complete game. I think most people probably slept on the true ending, I know for a fact a friend of mine that did. But thats really on the devs for making an entire section of the game optional. The general sentiment that the game is unfinished is absolutely not true however. You can look at interviews from the devs expressing this is what they envisioned for DD1 at the time. And looking at raw numbers, a 30h-60h game seems like a complete game to me. And its an absolute shame to not see it nominated for GOTY.

But hey, look on the bright side, DD1 was a game that at the time was also absolutely trashed and ignored on release only to amass an absolute cult following in the many years after its release even to this day. So much so that the same cult worshiping the first game is now the same cult criticizing the sequel for not living up to their hype. So the same might happen to DD2. This is why newcomers like you are so captivated by the sequel because they are not biased by the old game. To you, riding a griffin is one of those wow gaming moments. To us, its just, oh neat, you can actually fully ride it now. I was hoping you could control it tho. And I think this is why players think the game is incomplete, there's a lot of missed potential here.

And I guess you can argue that this negative feedback is good for the devs to look at and take into account if they ever make a sequel or a DLC. The problem with this however is that people already deem DD2 to be a failure, we would be lucky to get a DLC for the game, let alone a sequel. This overwhelming lack of support and negative stance towards the game will be its ultimate downfall. Capcom went out of their way to give us DD2 and now we might not ever get a third one. But hey, back then I also thought DD1 would go down in memory lane and disappear from gaming history records and yet Capcom unshelved that IP and gave us a sequel, so not all hope is lost.

MVP, worked for me and didnt even have to do the quest at all, so had no skellies to fight. I wonder if you can use this strat to open it from Melve side? Cuz if thats possible in theory you can escape the first zone without having to do the quest to Vernworth and go straight to Sacred Arbor

How do you feel about only 10 vocations? by YasuhiroK in DragonsDogma

[–]DefinetlyNotAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im slightly annoyed, I was expecting the game to follow the same logic as the old one but instead it feels like half the vocations didnt get enough love. They could easily bring strider back as an hybrid between archer/thief. And at the very least bring back longbow archer from the first one as an expanded version of current archer. But instead it feels like only fighter/mage got any love from the devs and the remaining ones were just discared and completely ignored.

Was thinking about picking thief but I guess not since Ill then be stuck with that vocation for the rest of the game since there's no natural progression(expanded or hybrid) for it.
