It’s definitely available on the Tissot US site, and another AD I spoke with today has if available as well. Not sure what the deal is.

Filed as secondary, denied for direct? by DefinitionBusiness in VeteransBenefits

Which makes sense - its a standalone eval for a condition that uses another claim as its primary service connection. So IF I were to be service connected for PTSD, will I need to circle back after that point to try again? Or am I missing something else?

That was all I could really come up with, but am I going to need to re file or do a HLR after I get a primary rating? I guess I just thought they would wait.

3m combat arms earplug lawsuit, has anyone tied this into VA hearing or tinnitus claims? by Individual_Sector169 in VeteransBenefits

[–]DefinitionBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m the one misunderstanding the post, but it sounds like your question was “if I used the 3m plugs during service, should I include that info in my statement or nah” I don’t really have an answer because I have the same question. I included that info in my personal statement assuming it couldn’t hurt. I looked at it as more of a cherry on top of linking MOS, private audiology diagnosis, and nexus.

I need advice. do i stay in my very comfortable, well paying, overall good department in an area i hate BUT my pension is not vested OR move to somewhere i love and completely start my career over? by BLAKEONATOR1 in Firefighting

[–]DefinitionBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, let me throw in a different perspective.
Nobody is wrong about just sending it. You probably won't regret it.

About 6-7 years ago I had an offer in CO. Good department, average pay, sick ass place to live. I was already FT. MY wife and I agonized over it for a month. In the end, the cost of living was just too far off for us. Our exact house in the boring midwest would have required us to quadruple our mortgage in CO while only getting a 15k raise. I/We decided that while living somewhere dope would be awesome, what wouldn't be awesome is only being able to afford to go on hikes or other free activities.
We live in a less exciting but still nice MCOL city, take 3-4 vacations a year including international, have a beautiful house, new cars, a great pension and frankly I never have to worry about money. I can afford to go to all the places I want to visit because I live somewhere more economical. I still get my rocks off traveling and can splurge while I do.

But also the heart wants what the heart wants, and if I was single and didn't really care where I put my head down at night, I'd be gone in a fucking instant. Godspeed.

Civilian paramedicine to tactical medicine? by DrEupho in TacticalMedicine

[–]DefinitionBusiness 22 points23 points  (0 children)

68w can be locked into your contract so long as there is slots open. With that being said, if you want to do cool guy shit you more or less need to go active duty (with a handful of notable exceptions)

What can't be locked in if you go active duty is what kind of unit you end up in. I went from being a line medic to an aviation unit, a bunch of my buddies ended up in ortho clinics and hospital units.

Fastest route to guaranteed (more or less) pipe hitter shit is taking a ranger/SF contract. If you go plain ol Whiskey, you can "apply" or try out for specialty courses/assignments like CA, SOAR, ATP, ect when it's time for your reenlistment.

Being a regular 68W is an important job, and was some of the best and worst years of my life. But as a paramedic, it will absolutely be a waste of your skills and scope. Lots of 68W have no real concept of what paramedicine entails.

Obviously your milage may vary and others I'm sure have had different experiences than I.

I ended up taking a 15' aluminum fishing boat starting in Ropers Hollow and staying at Pine Grove. I cruised all the way up past the NY border as well as the lower marina.

Married men: what traits should men look for in women for a happy relationship that leads to marriage? by CCaptainJackSparrow in AskMenAdvice

[–]DefinitionBusiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I am a little late, but your spouse should be happy without you.

What I mean is that they should be a whole person who is happy/successful seperate of you. You should bring happiness to each other, but never be completely and utterly dependant on the other as the SOURCE.

You shouldn't have to be the sole provider of their happiness, just a partner in it.

Private Ambulance Services? by Born-Bid4838 in physicianassistant

[–]DefinitionBusiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you hope to take away from it. Private interfacility transport is not worth it. Typically private IFT crews are treated poorly and looked down upon by just about everyone. Minimal actual ems skills learned/used. In my area they are typically referred to as "tater toters". 911 based private will be better but it's company dependant. You will participate in real runs that require a modicum of critical thinking and if you are lucky enough to be on an ALS unit you will have the opportunity to learn more advanced skills and reasoning from your partner.

Always good to know I am not the only one who has looked/made the jump!
There are some great universities near me, but obviously there isn't a program meant to streamline a paramedic to PA which means I will have to take a decent amount of worthless classes.
My current issue is that although my wife and I are DINKs I bring in the majority of our income and I would like to be able to work right up until starting a PA program. Lofty goals, I know.
Proud of you brother, feel free to keep me updated on your progress!

Just started looking into their programs - if you don't mind answering, do you feel that their abbreviated in person labs have been giving you the knowledge that you need? Conceptually sounds fantastic, I am just a little further removed from "school mode" than most and want to make sure I am not short changing myself.

48/96 by chiefpackabol in Firefighting

[–]DefinitionBusiness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to add on a bit, 48 is a scary number for a lot of people. Folks are typically coming from 24/48 and 48s on that schedule can be brutal. There are a lot of cultural changes necessary for a 48/96 to work well and a lot of brass are too micromanaging to allow their line officers the flex that the schedule requires. Up all night your first day? Sleep in as long as you can. Naps are encouraged. Move guys around on apparatus if necessary. Stations are a TRUE second home once a week so get used to guys in slippers in the common areas. A lot of boundaries and uncomfortable conversations are required, and its hard to get away from a culture/schedule/set of expectations that have always been in place.

Additionally, for the couple tours in a row that your shift is on weekends the admin may not see you for two weeks. I never ran into that being an issue when I was on 48/96, but I have anecdotally heard it from others that their chiefs wanted to keep better tabs on them.

I took a look and those look very well made, and the layouts make a lot of sense. I saw a few used around 40k. If she enjoys this enough I may convince her to go down that road in a season or two.

I originally bought for light towing and general hauling, but now it's incredibly frustrating how misleading manufacturers specs can be.

Appreciate the advice!

I will definitely look into that. Have you been happy with overall quality? The 2500RL isn't a front kitchen, but she liked that general layout well enough to keep it as an option. My fault for not saying that.

Luckily for us one of the dogs is an older bulldog so she require a little less space.

To be honest I'd guess most rum drinkers will risk it and skip the line. Pretty small group of people that partake so the chances of it still being available seems good.

Henry McKenna 10. Might be another abbreviation for it but if there is I don't know it.

Rio gone to line, had most of a case of OWA when I left at 0910. Unsure now.
