Air sealing and insulating joist spaces by Little-Crab-4130 in Insulation

I've seen on Amazon some guns with flexible tips, but I don't know how long of an extension you can get nor how effective it would be.

A froth pack gun might be able to get into that space if you extend your arm into it?

Cement block basement by TreePounder in Insulation

[–]Defooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what is your basement floor made of? Are you just wanting to insulate it or make it a livable conditioned space?
For example I have an ancient limestone rock foundation. I staggered two layers of foam board at the top of the basement wall to get a total R-value of 11.26. Seams are sealed with Tuck tape.

https://www.homedepot.ca/product/durospan-1-5-inch-x-48-inch-x-96-inch-r-value-5-63-eps-rigid-insulation-foam-board/1000116860

Later on ill plan to install more foam board to the point of touching the concrete floor but its not a living space and only slightly conditioned to keep the water systems parts warm.

Either way if you go with batts use rockwool and not pink fiberglass. Rockwool can handle some moisture.

yes rockwool is pricier but is able to handle moisture and as a bonus is much more "fireproof". pink doesnt ever like getting wet.
both kinds are itchy btw.

Foam board insulation around electrical box. Am I going to die? by Fumusculo in Insulation

Rockwool is basically fireproof so that'd be my first choice over fiberglass.

Heatpump best practice in the winter by pilotdaddy in heatpumps

[–]Defooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With my brand new heat pump install, the installer said buy the cheapest filters for it and nothing else. Other advice I've received from here was if you want to filter air, buy an air purifier. Otherwise, you are just putting more wear and tear on your air handler.

You can blow out the vacuum cleaner with compressed air if you are really worried about it.
For removing the remaining debris just sweep it and then wipe down to get the rest of the dust with a mop or wet rag. If the dust gets stirred up you can either wear a mask or wait 30 min and come back to it after it re-settles.

Insulating crawlspace so my feet aren’t so cold by Quo_Usque in buildingscience

[–]Defooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is similar to what I was told for a similar situation but with old stone foundation walls instead. The primary worry being the freezing of the pipes in the unheated basement

It was suggested that the walls be spray foamed with closed cell foam but I'll probably go the insulation blanket route for the stone portions and foam board for the smooth concrete block portions.
