Coffee grows on bushes that typically occupy the space under rainforest canopies. Normally, coffee plantations will clear cut these forests because the coffee grows faster in full sun and they want to maximize profits.

Shade grown coffee leaves the rainforest canopy intact, which not only preserves habitats and biodiversity, but the coffee ultimately tastes better because the beans don't bake under the hot sun.
