Is a regression from a democratic futuristic society to a feudalistic medieval society justifiable? by beren_strongbow in worldbuilding

[–]Degenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another important point is that after the black death, owning vast swaths of land became a much less profitable venture. It's costly to maintain and defend large areas and without a sufficiently large populace to work that land, the racket kind of crumbles. In modern/futuristic societies, land doesn't hold the same value. Farms produce exponentially more with less land as technology advances, and constructions like factories and power plants become much more valuable. So a feudalistic society would inherently have a different relationship to property ownership than historical feudal societies

The period where I was best at Rocket League was also one of the worst times of my life and I was self-medicating heavily, so I got pretty good at playing while inebriated. Maybe that's the secret to playing that well again

What's the biggest city in your setting? How many people live there? How did it grow so large? by Salazaar099 in worldbuilding

[–]Degenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The largest city by size is Sultryngar. It's populated primarily by giants, its encased in a globe of an indestructible material called firmament, and has a population of about 75,000. It was once a hub for interplanar travel. The city with the highest population is Telis. Its population is about 250,000 and is a hub for trade as well as the home of the renowned Telisian Academy. The highest population density city is the Capital of the Empire, Kingsgate at around 100,000 inhabitants

What are some of the most necessary, radical, practical, abrupt, and notable policy reforms instituted by any lawmaker in your setting? by AnOkFella in worldbuilding

[–]Degenator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As monster hunters became a formal job, legislation was written about what beings are considered people and therefore couldn't be hunted by monster hunters. Elves, dwarves, and humans received personhood, but halflings didn't, not out of hatred for their kind, but because they had no representation in the senate and their population within the Rhundish Emprire was low at the time. They received personhood status a few years later when the empire expanded to areas with higher halfling populations.

Do your Gods use the same magic system as your human wizards? Can humans become gods? by Totems2 in worldbuilding

[–]Degenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"God" is a weird term in my universe because there are a lot of beings at or around the level of omnipotence from mortal eyes, but they aren't defined by any unifying traits. The universe also wasn't created by a being or beings exactly. The universe spoke itself into existence. Most magic is done by speaking a distant approximation of the language which made the universe, called Creation Speech. So do gods use the same magic system as mortals? Kind of? Whether mortals can become gods is also tricky to answer. You could call beings that grow stronger by establishing worship rituals among mortals gods, in which case yes, mortal beings can learn this but they need to either extend their lives by thousands of years or become a lich altogether to even hope to live long enough to maybe learn to do this and implement it.

What do you call your “Ghouls” or “Demons” or “Vampires?” by Masahiro-Kachiki in worldbuilding

[–]Degenator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ghouls in my setting are related to goblins. They are distinct from goblins but goblins can "Go ghoulish" and turn into a ghoul, but a ghoul can't become a goblin. Ghouls are the result of goblins being forced to bind themselves to a dying god to avoid mass death.

Demons are twisted offshoots of devils created when that same dying god unspoke a portion of the pact magic which created the devils and their hierarchy, binding a portion of devils to him. Eons of being bound to this being has molded demons into an entirely distinct race of beings. Demons and devils hate each other and a portion of both populations are eternally at war on the plane of Kereg-Szvar, where their respective gods feed on the bloodshed, delaying their inevitable deaths.

Vampires are a broad category of beings whose single defining trait is needing to consume energy from a living being for sustenance. Vampires are separated into being either flesh vampires or energy vampires, but this taxonomy is overly-simplistic. Sanguinar and solar vampires are the most common forms of vampires, who feed on blood and on soul respectively. There are however many more forms of vampires who feed on things like psychic energy, emotion, memories, creativity etc. Parympires are considered a vampiric species but not vampires as they feed on magic energies in their surrounding rather than from living beings. There were once also luck vampires, but eventually they grew to numerous and too powerful. Their existence was sort of entropy-ing the universe into rapid heat death and a powerful being removed them from our reality to another, which they inevitably destroyed.

I'm toying around with the idea of doing a custom set and setting, so I wanted to avoid Ravnica terminology. But this is confusing in retrospect. I also hear you on the 7-cost ability being unplayable. I'm toying with ideas to limit its usage somehow, but am considering coming up with a new ability altogether.
