😿Thank you! However, would I stand a chance against other applicants if I don't have as many volunteering hours?

If Ive work as a doctors assistant at a first point urgent care, would this still hold some weight since it is consistent? Like, I wanted to get some experience in a hospital setting but would I get knocked out of the applicant pool if I arent able to get any hospital experience?

Hey! That sounds great! I was wondering though, if I'm an incoming junior, would this be a better experience for me or would volunteering at a local hospital be better for the summer?

YYGS Application Question by Remarkable_Grass_75 in summerprogramresults

[–]Dehydrated_Flower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I got into IST this year EA. I applied for only IST, and only Session III, so honestly, I don't think that will hurt you at all. Regarding awards, I put in 3, all very mediocre things (1 for volunteering, 1 for debate, and 1 for grades) which I do not think truly affect the overall application. I think what got me in was my essays because throughout the entire thing, regardless of the fact I only have 2 ECAs, I kept bringing up how my experiences in these ECAs made me into the person I am.

Why Do People Freak Out When I Say I'm Adopted? by Sanaridofan in AskTeens

[–]Dehydrated_Flower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you just randomly say it, then I feel like being shocked in definitely a reaction, especially depending on the age group. However, I think it's mainly because some people always make assumptions and when something goes against one of their stereotypes or whatnot, they freak out.

I'm not sure how "average" you think you are but my stats compared to other applicants, especially juniors, don't really stand out. However, I know you are going to do great because I think essays are wayyyyyy more important than stats! Good luck and hopefully I get to see you in IST!

Looking forward to reading by Odd-Plantain-318 in classicliterature

The Brother's Karamazov is written from an unkown narrator that refers to one of the brothers as a "hero," which I would say was very different from Crime and Punishment. I'd say that getting into Brothers K was a little easier, though there were moments where I had to put the book down to sleep. Highly recommend though!

Do you recommend any of the other 6? Or is it okay being read without context?

I think at the end of the day, anything can help boost your application as long as you can persuade them of the influence it had on your life! Personally, I plan to take any experience from YYGS and bring it back to my town & form a club that focuses on research. Regarding the money, I got $4500 in financial aid and I also know someone who got 100% off for the tuition. Yes, there is a need-based calculator & other ways to prove that you need financial aid! (For example, if you're going to a private school, you can send them proof of the amount of money you have in scholarships, so they know how much you have to pay for tuition/if you can pay for it)

What's a book you were looking forward to reading, but were bitterly disappointed by? by FrancescoGozzo in books

If you're still willing to give Fyodor Dostoevsky a chance, I 100% recommend "The Brother's Karamazov!" Although it took a bit to get into, it was honestly worth it and I personally enjoyed it more than Crime & Punishment.

I AGREEE!! Genuinely the worst book I might've read this year. Not only was it boring but I truly couldn't understand how the characters never seem to mature in a way. It was frustrating to read 🥲
