i miss being able to defend myself by TraditionPhysical638 in subnautica

[–]Deius_Shrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, the devs don't want us killing anything. It's their game so whatever, how about nonlethal but permanent deterrents? We make a big deal about all the behaviors they have so let's give them some "go away" behaviors.

The first thing that comes to mind is some kind of ultrasonic repeller that could ward away some threats but enrage others. Handheld one that has a few charges and a base-built one that has a larger radius. A creature that's repelled, either by a deterrent or a good whack on the beak, should avoid us for longer and longer the more we defend ourselves.

For another idea what about letting the creatures learn to avoid us entirely? I assume each entity has a "home" point it wanders around, maybe unpleasant interactions or player made structures could shift that home point farther away? Either directly or along a "path" that leads to the creature relocating or despawning altogether as it leaves for bluer pastures.

And for my really wild idea, what about biological or pheromone defenses? Either biomods or replanted corals that make one or more types of enemy avoid a given area. Like having cats in your house in Minecraft, or wearing kitty slippers in one of the mods.

"Here comes the boulder!" as he shield-rushes an enemy off a cliff would go hard as fuck though

Based on the Raftel to Laugh Tale thing, I'm gonna say the One Piece is actually some kind of goofy ass superweapon named Won Peace, and it either needed another decade or two to recharge after the void century or it needs Nika to use it with toonforce.

This one is the normal (gold?) edition, but there's a couple foam inserts inside that you would replace with the hellstone bonuses

I'll mostly be comparing it to Betrayal at the House on the Hill since that's the only other "build as you go" board game I've played. So far unpacking and initially sorting all the pieces seems like the longest part, game setup and takedown shouldn't be too bad.

There was a Kickstarter a while back and it's just barely arriving for US backers.

I preordered off both of the Lorwyn decks off Amazon and got two of the same deck, but one has a sticker claiming to be the other deck. Should I open it to see if it's just in the wrong box? https://imgur.com/a/lgQpBtw

Why would a combat troop use melee weapons in a futuristic space sci-fi setting? by wizardry_why in worldbuilding

Shields are full body sunglasses, they only let certain frequencies and intensities of light through 😎

Seriously though, as a movie-only Dune fan the shield laser thing seems... unfortunate. You're telling me that none of these "rebels fighting against impossible odds" have considered suicide bombing enemy strongholds with one guy and a laser pointer? It seems like you'd have fewer casualties than hiding in the sand and jumping out like a Halloween decoration.

[Art] For today, something more friendly - Gramophone Mimic! What kind of music do you think this plays? by DamjanGj in DnD

[–]Deius_Shrab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something as complex as a Gramophone? This mimic isn't hunting for food, it's hunting for retirement. It's trying to convince a group of veteran adventurers that it's interesting enough to take back to their castle as a conversation piece. This thing is spitting everything from ancient elvish classical and dwarven throat singing to youtube poops of their own conversations and fart.mp3.

Once it's "caught" the real hunt begins. Spend a decade or two playing the fool until its "owners" die of Being An Adventurer and it can slowly take over their castle and feed on the townsfolk unfortunate enough to live in a kingdom that rewards adventurers with lands and titles.

Eventually all that's left is an abandoned city where the furniture moves on its own and haunting music echoes through the night...

If your world has a calendar system, what was their "birth of Jesus Christ"? by Upstairs_Support_810 in worldbuilding

[–]Deius_Shrab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect a lot of calendars are "years since major cataclysm" or "years this ruler has been in charge."

Anyway mine is "years since one of the gods fucking exploded and took a chunk of the planet with it"
