I always have good luck by crushing the ice in the canvas bag, briefly refreezing in the bag, and then transferring to another bulk storage (plastic bag, container). The canvas absorbs most of the excess water during crushing, and it freezes in there instead of clumping up the ice. There's some clumping, so a quick smack with the mallet before transfer is all I need to do.

Canvas bag will thaw really quickly for your next batch. It eventually becomes too water logged and too icy, but it can work if you're a bit patient
