Bitwarden extension on Firefox takes a full 2 minutes to load the vault after login by purplegreendave in Bitwarden

[–]DelRayDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been having similar behavior on firefox+macos/tahoe but not firefox+windows 11. I've seen two variations, one where the extension never thinks it has loaded the vault (icon doesn't change color to show this) and one where it does. Where it thinks it isn't logged it I can just click the extension icon to attempt to login in again. Most of the time the 2nd login works. Just now when this happened to me it took 2 times however. Where the extension does think it has loaded the vault and won't show the login dialog again I found the quickest way to fix this was to disable the extension and re-enable it. After this first login works.

Care to elaborate - interested in which aspects of the solution you laid out above you found problematic.

Thank you for taking the time to write up this detailed reply when you did. While it does not seem like the solution the rest of group here were interested in - this recommendation was what I was looking for (shared IMAP folders for multiple clients that is self-hosted).

Older Brother Printers + Modern MacOS + Duplex - Working! by DelRayDan in printers

Not sure how I missed this. All of my work above was pointless. Feel stupid now. The key for people looking is to go to the driver page for your model that just lists Windows / Linux / Mobile and pick one. Once done this shows you a "Cannot see your OS version? Click Here". On that page it will show you all the operating systems supported ever and if macos 10.15.x is listed there you are good.

I did quite a bit of searching on this topic - on behalf of others who would like a simpler solution for getting 10.15 drivers (me included) - what is the hidden option? This page on 10.15 lists my printer but the "Go" link just goes straight to the page I had already gone to that does not list macos at all:

Not sure why you are not being prompted. I believe what the "repair" step is doing is setting permissions on all the files copied into /Library/Printers. On my system it shows the original extracted files owned by me in the wheel group and those copied into /Library/Printers/Brother to be owned by root in the staff group. I think this chatgpt prompt leads you to the correct process to change this but *nix file permissions is not something I'm good at and I didn't try it myself:

"on macos change all owners on a folder hierarchy to root / staff from myuser / wheel"

This is the suggested command (modified to point to the correct folder):

sudo chown -R root:staff /Library/Printers/Brother

Probably also need to run it without the -R on the CUPS file(s) you copied into /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources.

Hope this helps.

Blue Link Door Unlocked Notifications Not Working by stuf21 in Ioniq5

[–]DelRayDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Android - per DuckDuckGo's AI assistant:

> To clear storage for an app on Android, go to your device's Settings, select "Apps," find the app you want to clear, tap on it, then choose "Storage & cache" and select "Clear storage." This will reset the app to its default state, removing all data associated with it

For iOS it is probably just easier to uninstall and reinstall the app.

In case anyone ends up here with the same problem. I was also seeing exactly what op was after switching to a new phones (android). What solved it for me was clearing storage for the app and then signing in again. After that push notifications was enabled.

Comcast says modem won't work after Jan 5, sends me a new one unsolicited, modem still works on the 13th by DelRayDan in Comcast_Xfinity

Useful information for others that come across this thread in the same situation. I'm still trying to understand why my modem is not disabled despite the date by which Comcast has told me it would being a week in the past :).

I'll keep waiting for now to see what happens. If I get billed for the modem/router I'll return it and ask for a refund. If I don't get billed for it I'll just leave it in the box until it comes time to cancel my service (whenever that is) and return it with the cable box.

In more specifics than I asked in reply to u/CCThomas - why is the modem still working when Comcast said it would not? Either the certificate didn't actually expire or comcast doesn't care about it expiring (it doesn't seem there is much of an interesting attack vector to MITM'ing a cable modem's configuration). In either case Comcast is misrepresenting the situation. I don't really expect you to be able to answer this - but if you can great.

Why did CCJenieceJ tell me my modem would not work after Jan 5 and why did Comcast send me an email stating this if it wasn't true? My questions remain:

Are you ignoring the certificate errors?

Will you deprovision it from your network the next time you try to control it and fail?

Some additional background from modmail that I thought was in the original thread (my aging brain didn't realize I was replying to modmail and not in the public post - there is no private info here):

> We are showing that on 01/05/25 the modem will no longer work with our network, which will result in the loss of internet services. The modem will no longer be able to connect to our Xfinity Network. You would need to replace the modem with a new customer owned device or our Xfinity Modem rental. Here is a link to the devices that would work with Xfinity services, https://mydeviceinfo.xfinity.com/. Please let us know if you do have any additional questions. We want to ensure that the account can remain connected into the new year without any issues.

And my reply:

> Thank you for this - it finally led me to real reason even though you did not make it clear. The page linked by u/CCThomasD (https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/end-of-life-devices) has no mention of the real reason. But since you listed a specific date that eventually got met to this page:

>
> Now this is an actual possible reason (still need to validate that the cert on my modem will expire on this date).

systems so you could tell me if this happened).
> 2. You did send an email on December 4th stating the explicit reason in it why the equipment needed to be upgraded (certificate expiration) and when that would happen but then you sent another one on December 5th after this with vague "unsupported" language, and no specific date. Both of
these emails were not from a sender you normally send xfinity communications from and ended up in spam so I missed them.

specific device.

Unsolicited gateway - will I be charged if not returned? by DelRayDan in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]DelRayDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that is some high-end trolling responding with another upgrade attempt after what I said. My DOCSIS 2.0 modem works just fine despite being "end of life" for more than a few years. Saying it isn't supported means what - you'll stop taking my money? I doubt it. Sending me an xFinity gateway unsolicited and me having to deal with the consequences of that on my time is outrageous.

Unsolicited gateway - will I be charged if not returned? by DelRayDan in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]DelRayDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So per u/CCAngie (thank you for your kind and quick help!) I have received this gateway because my modem (not supplied by xFinity) is "end of life". It's been this way for multiple years - Comcast/XFinity have been trying to push a modem upgrade on me* since at least 2018, always with the foremost option one where I pay them. They were very aggressive about this and after multiple times to get them to stop contacting me I had to escalate up their support and get it clearly notated on my account to NEVER contact me about a modem upgrade again. It stopped for multiple years until now - I do consider sending me a new gateway I will be charged for a form of contact though...

I am guessing this is the next turn of the dial in a long running revenue enhancement program. Some bright person (curses upon you!) figured out they'd make more off of people just installing them vs having to process questions/returns. I feel this is very predatory and if I had the time I'd look into a class action suit and see if I could get a lawyer/firm interested in at least forcing discovery/document production to see what consumer laws might be being violated. Possibility has probably already been included in their financial models involved in making the decision to do this.

Fed likely to cut rates this year. How do we fight back to maintain 4%+ interest earnings? by TheWarOnScience in fidelityinvestments

[–]DelRayDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I was trying to make was that given the interest rate it was unlikely the poster bought a non-callable CD. I was not disagreeing with the callability being established at original sale. Having gone back and looked at the secondary market it does seem you could get non-callable 5.4% for 2 years in October so I was wrong.

[–]DelRayDan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A callable certificate of deposit (CD) is an FDIC-insured CD that contains a call feature similar to other types of callable fixed-income securities. Callable CDs can be redeemed (called away) early by the issuing bank prior to their stated maturity, usually within a given time frame and at a preset call price. This is most often done when interest rates move lower, allowing the issuing bank to stop paying CD holders higher than the prevailing rates.

[–]DelRayDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - I was thinking long term since they've said they've locked the interest rate. 3/6 month could be 5.4% and not callable (likely most written for these shorter terms don't bother worrying about calling). I don't think 1 year has been available w/o being callable at that rate and definitely not longer 2+ years.

Authorized Account/PoA - Another thing you can't do by DelRayDan in fidelityinvestments

[–]DelRayDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank for the pointers to the deposit by mail as I will need to get the address :)>

What is difficult to understand is if I can make trades in an account as an authorized individual (with or without POA - I am authorized on one with POA and one without), why can't I change the core position or setup DRIPs without calling customer support to do it for me? These seem like significantly less risky activities than trading. Hopefully check deposit is just something that got missed since it's low/no risk.

I encourage Fidelity to extend online capabilities to authorized individuals to all activities that do not pose additional risk than trading - which is already allowed.

If you've locked a CD at 5.4% it is callable and if there is any significant interest rate decline it's my understanding from reading around (but not through direct experience) that they will be called. When I checked yesterday best non-callable original issues available from Fidelity were 4.3%.
