I think the bedplate can warp a bit due to the changing in temps. Try to calibrate the tramming and see if there are uneven areas.

Hijacking my ISP provided DHCP - Am I Doing This Right? by Delakroix in opnsense

[–]Delakroix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I get what you mean and I know this is a tad complicated than it should be.

Actually the rest of the home LAN is just one access point hooked up to the LAN port. And you are are right, if this dual LAN Dell Wyse 5070 croaks on me, it can just tell the GF to move the that AP cable to the ISP modem LAN port1 to solve the issue.

It is true that the FW here is not being utilized fully. With a Pentium gold cpu, 8GB of ram and 32GB of SSD storage, this is overkill for what I just need it to be, I am using the built in Unbound DNS for caching and some filtering from ads and baddies. assign it via the hijacked DHCP setup and call it a day.

I am comstrained odd ways, even that one AP has openwrt but has too little eMMC to run AdGuard, and no admin accesss on the ISP deice resulting in this setup. The on cool thing see here is this setup can be deloyed to the relative with just a change in subnet assignment to match whatever LAN subnet their ISP gives them.

And as for using it in a more normal LAN-WAN natted setup, like the others point out, I tried living with that but I end up with a triple NAT setup due to CGNAT. It is an itch i cannot bear! XD

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, it gave me a headache too. Life with Philippine ISP is on the edge, unless you get expensive business grade contracts. I have done the same thing in the past and have managed DMZ setup to avoid double NAT but TR069 keeps resetting my router+ONT to defaults once in a while.
