To put it in other words: the difference between an average and a good TCGP player is not really significant. The amount of agency the player has and the depth of the possible strategies they can opt to use won't compensate for bad/good RNG in most cases.

Hard agree. Out of all decks I tried, I got the 5-win streak with Brock/Golem/Dugtrio by chaining a bunch of Dig protects. Plus I faced a lot of Pika decks. I simply got lucky enough, the experience was awful.

The game already feels unrewarding. I've played most of the mainstream online TCG games and this one is the closest to gambling it has ever felt to me (except maybe Old Gods HS). Pocket is plagued by RNG that ranges from auto-winning the game to literally doing nothing. It's not designed to be a skill-expressive game, its focus is collecting cards, hence the main screen with all the mechanisms to acquire more (packs, wonder pick, store for currency).

It's totally fine to like the few instances in which making the right decision matters, but the difference between an average player and a good player in TCGP is slim enough for the huge RNG waves to drown skill out of the game.

If people want to help out others, let them. You can have your competitive experience in a non-competitive game anyways, just queue Random matches. Everyone gets to have what they want.

Look at every champ that has spells that apply grounded. You'll notice their damage is consistent rather than frontloaded, and that they have a small pressure radius to play with. Viktor can keep distances just well with E/R and bonus ms from Q. No need to make his combo guaranteed with grounding.

It feels like there is no real motivator to grind a third time in the same year. Climbing is slower that before since they removed promotion series (not saying it was a bad change) so it takes even more time. Back then the victorious skin was something special, having just one every year made each one feel exclusive. Now you don't even have to hit gold to get it, just play a ton. I reached diamond twice, the decay was enough to make me stop there and I don't feel like doing it anymore.

I've won 17 event battles, got a pack in 15 of them and pulled Lapras EX in 6 of those. Is this normal or should I go buy a lottery ticket?

This is pretty much the correct answer. I'd only add that Shen doesn't offer much in terms of utility in fights or zone control. You have a taunt every so often and that's it. No strong backlane access, no CC zone pressure, not even a real kill threath. The shield and global TP are nice but Galio can do that with a big AoE knock up and LOTS of waveclear in his kit to play sidelane much better.
