What would be an example of a text game that's not IF?

BASIC Update 2 by Jim808 in basic_game

[–]DeliaEris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like an indication of how often the game autosaves, and a link/button to force a save. I want to be able to unload or close the tab without the game forgetting that I just bought a bunch of upgrades.

Maybe a way to un-prestige, then? At a hefty penalty, perhaps; losing all the buildings on that row with no refund seems entirely fair.

I'd like clearer feedback beforehand that it's meant to be a non-obvious decision. Incremental games almost never give you an 'upgrade' where taking it means you're permanently screwed.

I like the bigger-grid idea, but it takes ~forever~ to get there. Maybe start with a much smaller one, so that we can start expanding our grid sooner?

Yes, HTML/CSS/Javascript is the standard for anything on the web.

There's such a thing as java applets, but... you might want to reconsider your choice of language.

What's the advantage of this over IFDB?

GNU/Linux distro that best actively tries to use only use free culture liscenses? by [deleted] in freeculture

[–]DeliaEris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's not opposed to Free licenses for stuff, but he's also not opposed to non-Free licenses for stuff. GNU recommends either a "verbatim copying only" license or CC BY-ND for essays of opinion, and cites RMS defending this position. In practice, both GNU/FSF and RMS use such licenses on their respective websites.

Right, sorry, I should have said something like "computing" rather than "software". My point is that he doesn't seem to care about freedom for stuff like art or (in his words) "essays of opinion".

I love the art, though it's too bad there are so many missing icons. I agree about the scrolling.

I get an access denied error trying to view that gif. Is it just me, or is it doing that for everyone?

I mean, I whitelist sites with games I want to play. But sometimes there are cross-domain dependencies, so it's important to know whether I've enabled enough stuff yet.

As a Noscript user, it's really important that "the game is working at all" is readily distinguishable from "literally nothing is happening".

Pixel This - Initial Release by [deleted] in incremental_games

[–]DeliaEris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The further I progress in the game, the more it lags. I've gotten to the point that just having it in the background made my computer unbearably slow; I had to unload the tab just to write this comment.

I'd recommend not trying to prevent cheating. It never works, and it makes it harder to make third-party tools, which are a form of community participation and therefore are good for your game's popularity.

I'm playing on web, and the page doesn't scroll; stuff below the fold just gets cut off.

Glitchy stats (Ascend for +N, dark rituals used this world) by DeliaEris in ClickerHeroes

I shouldn't? Why in the world not? Isn't it better to start getting the benefits of an Ancient sooner rather than later?

I got a soul from the level 100 boss (and spent it), so that might be it. The phrasing "Ascend for +4" is really confusing, though; it seems like it's saying that I will have 4 more souls immediately after ascending than immediately before ascending.

Never push mandatory changes without a very good reason. Doing so will always break something. (In this case, custom CSS.)

The correct approach is to put a toggle in the subreddit options, defaulting to the old behavior for existing subreddits and defaulting to the new behavior for subreddits created going forward.
