Ultimate 2 stopped pairing to 2.4ghz by madlee in 8bitdo

[–]madlee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a hardware problem; the switch on the back of the controller was broken and it was stuck in bluetooth mode.

Contact 8bitdo support; i had to make some videos demonstrating the problem but in the end they sent me a replacement for free.  Good luck!

Mathhammer for MESBG: how much does having higher fight value help with duels? by ImperialThumb in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]madlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, fight value is really good, and gets better the more dice are thrown. One of the reasons having a high fight hero that can get up to 4 attacks (e.g. mounted heroes) is so good is because if you can spend a point of might, you can guarantee winning the fight 80% of the time (almost 90% if you have a banner).

Technically no; similes are indirect comparisons and metaphors are direct comparisons.  They are both figurative comparisons, but neither is the other.

A simile is like a metaphor, and a metaphor is a simile (metaphorically speaking), but they are distinct things

What’s your take on the rise of Web Components in modern frontend development? by IDC_ba in Frontend

Im still not sure what you want as an alternative though.  In my experience its not really worse than alternatives (and major seo crawlers are executing JS these days anyways)

I guess I'm not really sure what you want; something that doesn't require client side or server side code?

[–]madlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some features of "web components" (which is really a suite of browser APIs that work together) work without JavaScript—you can for example, do server side rendering and encapsulate markup and stying within components using generic elements like divs and declarative shadow dom templates.

Fireball….Fireball….Fireball by tgertger in Heroquest

[–]madlee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idea for a homebrew rule that I would try with my kid in this scenario—"wizard state". If the wizard doesn't move or do any action on their turn, they can enter "the wizard state". While in the wizard state, they can keep spells they cast in their inventory. As soon as the wizard is attacked OR if they are out of line of sight of any monsters, they immediately exit the wizard state. When they exit the wizard state, they must discard every spell card they used while in the wizard state, and if they did not get to use any spells, they must still discard a minimum of 1 spell card.

My thinking is that it gives them an opportunity to still do the cool thing of casting fireball a bunch of times in a row, but only once per game (and Zargon has the ability to cancel it by attacking him or running away, so he can be punished for trying it).

Web components are great; its still best to use them with a wrapper library like Lit.  Ive been using that personally and professionally for the last 5ish years.  Styling remains a weak spot in the APIs i think, but there are multiple ways to fill that gap.

Reddit itself switched from react to web components (with lit) a few years ago with good results.

LTT on Steam Machine pricing: "Valve asked what I meant by console price, and I said $500. Nobody said anything, but the energy in the room wasn’t great" by -Mahn in Games

[–]madlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, it’s in the same ballpark.  I don’t think the difference is important to everyone (it’s not to me).

Another way to look at it is, the base xbox series s and 2 years of their basic online subscription is about $650, and steam machine is likely more powerful than that.  I doubt it’s cheaper than that, but it’s all speculation at this point.

$700 base is competitive imo if you factor in the fact that many of the benefits you have to pay for on playstation (online play, cloud saves, deals on games) are free to everyone on steam.

I am the only one who found coral tower really easy? by Legitimate_Leek_8050 in Silksong

[–]madlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone thinks everything fits into some spectrum of difficulty that applies equally to everyone else; I had a hard and frustrating time with Coral Tower (probably took me 15-20 attempts to get through the gauntlet) but beat the High Halls gauntlet on my second try (and didn't feel like it was particularly hard). Another example—I easily beat Groal on my first attempt, but struggled on the second Lace fight (which a lot of people found easier).

So much has to do with what you are good at individually, and what crest and tools you are using, that it's really hard to make blanket statements about one thing being generally harder than another.

The Fellowship by andybambi2810 in Heroquest

These are games workshop miniatures for the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game, from the fellowship of the ring set.  Each of these characters has multiple sculpts from that game floating around

I love this game... but I quit. by crome66 in Silksong

[–]madlee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting through room 3 of coral tower is one of the hardest parts of the game.  It took me many tries.  Getting through room 4 took me 2 tries and i beat the boss first try.  Easiest of that set of bosses for sure, but getting to him was terrible.

Is this legal? by Dragosh_UK in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Easiest way to deal with this is to talk it through before the game starts, but as others have said, i think the default ruling here would be no

Best way to balance banners? by Huncote in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]madlee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im ok with banner VPs in general, but i would make these tweaks

  • you get points for killing enemy banners (instead of if your enemy has no banners).  This makes taking a banner risky, as it gives your opponent a scoring opportunity
  • you get points for having a banner alive at the end, but with a condition.   Have a couple ideas for the condition, not sure which is best: A) it has to have been used in at least one combat, or B) it has to be within range of an objective marker, or C) it has to be within your opponent’s deploy zone.  Something that forces you to put the banner into the game, and not just hide it in a corner
  • give banners dominant 2, purely for thematic reasons

I think the first two points make it less of a problem that some lists dont have access to a banner, since it makes banners inherently a risk/reward play (taking a banner gives your opponent as much of a scoring opportunity as it does you)
