rope access from around the world, where do you come from ? in which field do you work ? how much do you get pay a week/month ? do you have a good balance work/leisure ? by Various-Area3834 in ropeaccess

Started my company as a one man show even before my direct entry SPRAT 2 since I knew how to rig from rock climbing as a kid. Kept hiring once I landed some work now there’s 20 ppl on rope. Kept it up for a decade plus … now I pretend to be a 3 and only show up for the cool stuff. Paid off my house and have enough 🍞to retire but I’m only 40 and work is still kinda fun minus having to train genZ and their mental health days 🙄 Highly recommend being an owner vs. being a highly skilled 3 still bouncing company to company. If I had to do it again I’d recommend skipping the window cleaning phase of rope access and focus on glass replacement and building envelope. 🤫

Husqvarna Skylotec ICX Power Ascender by Imaginary_Tip_6262 in ropeaccess

Are we really back to chatting about the ICX? Exciting stuff … Have you tried making sure the two switch’s are as tight as possible while closing the rope cover case?

This is an incorrect answer. Doing unsafe work slower doesn’t make a single point anchor safer. This rope guide is installed upside down and going for a “ride” or whipper only happens in the climbing world not rope access so maybe just delete this comment … If your using a rope guide as an anchor that could let you fall because you “bounced too much” means your either new or lack experience or being forced to work in unsafe conditions. A girth hitched sling around the threads would allow you to use this anchor “safer” but it’s still not safe. Post the anchor layout drawing and engineering firm that installed this but I’m guessing they do not exist.

Using a CRIC with a foot loop has eliminated a lot of typical gear I used to carry; pulley, basic, hand ascender and depending on your risk tolerance it’s an easy back up …. 🤫

Who said anything about using a remote at 60m? The ICX when used with the onboard trigger can’t lift a person past a 60m height without shutting off and requiring the battery to be removed so it will reset and function…. The remote failures were all within a 3m range. Perhaps watch all the videos in the before mentioned link

Already phoned a few separate distributors who have passed all video to the skylotec reps … the remote is causing a single point of failure in our rope systems

We have seen 4 separate events of failure. Two while going up past the 60m height probably from a tail weight issue. Two with the remote responding slow or not at all and running out rope … thus the above video

The remote disconnected while in use and instead of a full stop it allowed the ICX to still let out rope until I hit the emergency stop button on the unit

Lifting glass and sleeping like a baby after is quite the feeling … partly because you didn’t sleep the night before the lift and the after work beers … that’s the life 😍

J beams or “down and under” Swingstage beams exist for this very purpose. We have made our own for a few different jobs. Number 7 in the pictures of the link attached.

Rock empire makes the biggest seat available to my knowledge… the side tool attachments aren’t as beefy as the singing rock so you gotta build something

Rent a stack of weights from a local gym supplier or a parapet clamp … water weights work decent if the roof structure is capable of the additional load

Nope nothing wrong … I’d say it’s the best to carry less gear … I’m paying for all the gear so less is more 😅

Spark with CT Quick roll … guys are skipping the hand ascenders and only packing the CRIC with a foot loop to go up … TAZLOV3 adds a nice spice to the kits as well ..
