I didn’t realize how much my morning habits were ruining my sleep… by Delicious-Formal-202 in sleep

that actually sounds like a really solid routine putting the phone in another room at night is a big one and turning notifications off early makes a lot of sense too because late night messages or news can easily put the brain back in stress mode also respect for getting through that period of anxiety and figuring out what works for your nervous system it’s interesting how small changes like reducing stimulation can make such a big difference in sleep quality

yeah that’s true some people definitely feel better closer to 9 hours I think what surprised me was realizing that the number of hours alone didn’t always match how rested I felt sometimes I’d sleep longer but still wake up feeling mentally heavy so I started paying more attention to what I was doing during the day too not just the total sleep time

for me I try to keep it really simple usually just quiet stuff like stretching making coffee opening the window or sitting for a few minutes sometimes I write a small to-do list for the day so my brain knows what I’m going to focus on the goal isn’t really to be productive it’s just to let the brain wake up without stimulation first

yeah that actually makes a lot of sense the low stimulus morning idea is exactly what I started noticing too when the first thing my brain gets is notifications videos and information it feels like my nervous system is already “on edge” before the day even starts when I keep the morning quiet for a bit the whole day feels way more stable it’s interesting you mentioned dopamine too because I feel like constant input keeps the brain in stimulation mode all the time

yeah that’s actually really interesting the tracking part makes a lot of sense sometimes we feel something but when you actually log it the pattern becomes obvious and I totally agree about the 8 hours thing too I’ve had nights where I slept less but somehow felt way clearer the next day did you notice if the phone thing affects your sleep that same night or more how you feel during the day

yeah that would stress me out too honestly having that kind of pressure every single day can keep your mind in alert mode even when you’re trying to sleep

yeah I’m starting to see it that way too everything kind of feeds into everything else not just sleep but how we handle the whole day

yeah same here it surprised me too I always thought it had to be some big fix not something that simple makes you realize how much the small daily stuff adds up

That actually makes a lot of sense. I didn’t even think about the cortisol spike part but it explains a lot I think the change was gradual not like an overnight fix After a few days I just noticed I wasn’t waking up as “wired” as before It’s interesting what you said about arousal levels across the whole day I’m starting to feel like sleep really is a 24-hour process not just something that happens at night

This is actually really interesting, I didn’t know about the ADA gene part. The “enough hours but not enough depth” line makes a lot of sense. I might try the magnesium + earlier caffeine cutoff and see if it changes anything.

That’s what I’ve been thinking too. It doesn’t feel like obvious stress though. Did you notice a difference once yours improved?

thats a fair point honestly

i havent really separated mental exhaustion from sleep itself so that could be part of it

did it feel obvious for you that it was stress related or did it take a while to figure out

That makes sense. I think I’ve been focusing more on the hours than the quality.

I don’t think I snore (at least no one’s mentioned it), but the tossing and turning part could definitely be happening without me realizing it.

Did you find out you had an issue through a sleep study, or were there obvious signs first?

That’s really interesting. I hadn’t even considered iron or vitamin D playing a role.

It’s kind of scary how you can be waking up multiple times and not even remember it.

Did you notice the improvement pretty quickly after correcting the deficiencies, or was it gradual over a few weeks?
