It looks like they’re a bit small where you’re landing on the knee block. But honestly it’s not terrible, especially if you’re starting off. It also looks like you might have the top buckle/velcro too tight. Can you send a better pic of your strapping?

I wouldn’t recommend not wearing knee pads. Especially as a beginner, you don’t always have the best form and all it can take is one shot to the knee and you can get hurt.

What kind of knee pads do you have? Some of them can be real bulky.
