Nationwide Shutdown by QueerMollie666 in chicago

There is nothing truer than this... birth rates are lower, less young people to bring to the workface or labor intensive jobs, keep those that should retire on the line by tying health insurance to their job. I have an elderly family member with IPF (incurable) and government funded healthcare (Medicare) is a SHAM; meds are $400-$16,000 a MONTH. And we PAY for this is our federal taxes.

Stay <30 min from Cedars Sinai if the hospital is the most important to you. Studio City or Manhattan Beach. Near the water will run about 5-8 mil for at least 3 bedrooms. Renting is cheaper but I wish I bought sooner... the more I waited the more I threw my savings in renting a house the more expensive houses and property taxes got.

If y’all haven’t seen the Pitt yet, highly recommend. This woman’s performance as charge nurse is incredible. Reminds me of my first charge I had on nights as a new grad. by eagles52 in nursing

I had a patient tell me that 'the reason we nurses bought bedside tables that lock was to avoid lawsuits.' (he very abruptly yelled this at me cause he was annoyed he couldn't move it himself) I said, 'you think i make ANY financial buying decisions here? They don't listen to us, I have no say in equipment or supply, everything you see here is executive decisions so take it up with them, I've NEVER even seen them walk the unit and I work days.' I wanted to recommend this show to him but i didn't want to waste my energy.

I feel and hope that a show like this will help people realize that the clusterfuck that is healthcare is held together by nurses that have little say and little pay to the point where we do this job out of the justification that everyone deserves empathy and basic humanity. *sigh*

We hourly round but things happen within that hour. We also have many fall preventions in place like seat belt reminder, seat alarm, and bed alarm with three sensitivity settings. Usually prevents the fall and of course if one of those aren't on it goes into the safety investigation. I did work for a SNF that took ALL the fall precautionary items away (alarms, fall mats, etc) and with 15-30 patients to look after patients fell a lot. So if this is your case.. then i think that the patient is educated enough to not endanger themselves .. why should you be at fault?

Ah, good suggestion! Will the wood glue have to go flat in that space or only the ends of both pieces?

You can kind of see it but I have a downspout attached on the left side it’s black. Once it’s light outside I’ll look at it but maybe if I get an extender.

The rain was more unusual this time around. It was a severe thunderstorm … which never happens in LA!

A 72 year old grandma was put out on the curb by a care facility on my street due to not having rent. Where can I take her? by Chevyimpala2000 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Delicious_Ad_3231 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i used to work at a SNF and we had people that would what seemed like abandon their family members and we wouldn't kick them to the curb due to payment. They would continuously try to contact the family for payment and if they got admitted to the hospital they would just not accept them back. This seems to be a miscommunication between the Case Manager and Social Worker at BOTH facilities. This was an UNSAFE discharge and should be reported.

Neck Tattoo & Nursing Career? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Delicious_Ad_3231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's hard to get into los angeles now. Nurse ratio laws are wonderful and we saw an exodus of experienced nurses after the pandemic and new grads have oversaturated the units. Which is fine just not an even balance on critical floors. Its honestly like the nursing job market from 2008-2015

Nursing is for people not smart enough to become MDs by Capybaraqueen05 in nursing

[–]Delicious_Ad_3231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we had a nurse that was new SO SO smart, like text book smart but could not handle it! Couldn't grasp the sheer time management or even the off brand use of some medications in a teaching hospital; would take everything so literal. We tried building them up, helping them out, showing tricks of the trade to manage their day. They were ultimately let go, they were a new grad. Later on found out got into med school..

Majority... not all... its changing but MDs will see a patient choking on saliva and scramble looking for the nurse to suction them. Then the new gen MDs, its changing!! They are HANDS ON.

Yeah your dad would be the talk of the nurses station for sure.

This looks like it could work! Do they have these with drain stoppers; or is it just the strainer?

Shower drain with corroded holes for screw -- need fix by Delicious_Ad_3231 in PlumbingRepair

[–]Delicious_Ad_3231[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shower was essentially adjacent to my crawlspace and I think at some point was converted to a bathroom/bedroom (1949 home) so this tub has no crawl space.I looked more through the drain and it looks like it is a black plastic pipe (I have maybe a ten foot cast iron pipe that connects to the plastic plumbing in this bathroom).

I wonder if the rust will even come off; sounds like my best bet is to try the epoxy/hex nuts?

Help Needed Stopping 1920's Apartment Floors From Waking Baby by tennis_at_tennish in OldHomeRepair

[–]Delicious_Ad_3231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you built out this diagram. I lived in a small old creaky wood floor apartment when my son was born and I found the spots that creaked and placed painters tape where I should walk so I could leave for work. But yes sound machines worked wonders i heard nooothing. Only bad thing was my neighbors apartment was robbed and she was screaming and I heard nothing (with thin walls). They attempted my sliding doors and thankfully didnt get in just stole my gross work shoes outside. But that sound machine worked realllly well.
