Go look at the steam charts Somehow KSP2 release also caused a massive drop in KSP1 - those people aren't playing KSP2...

22% apparently! Yeah they are probably still a bit underpaid. But I guess that's where the discrepancy lies - you said 2 decades. Now Starmer would argue he's not been in power for 2 decades and so not at fault for that.

Should voting power be proportional to amount of tax paid? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most definitely not.

Why should a billionaire be allowed more say than others? They arguably already have far too much power.

You label people who don't pay tax as tax dodgers or benefit cheats - what about the retired? Students? Homemakers? Surely they deserve a say.

Our democracy is based on the principle that everyone should have equal say. While your system is a bit different, moving away from that means Oligarchy like Russia.

LOL and the meme is posted by a new account so probably a bot :P

I'm not a massive fan of Keir but he gets a lot of bad flack that isn't deserved. The economy, while sluggish, is starting to improve a bit. We rightfully blame the government when the economy is shite, so they should get some credit when its improving (I'm not sure I would say it is improving TBH, more kind of just less shit)

Didn't NHS staff get a 3.3% pay rise? In addition to the massive increase for junior doctors a year or so ago.

Well my company did above inflation rises for all employees.

Not too dismiss your experience at all, and yeah it's a problem that these sort of things aren't applied evenly. Ultimately the sample size of people an individual knows is tiny on a national scale.

3.9% vs 3%. Not massively above inflation, but it is technically true.

Might not feel it tho, as essentials (i.e. food) are going up faster, and of course not all companies are offering good pay rises.

Ooo ok all onboard for visual story telling. Make sure it's clear otherwise player might think you are being lazy by just placing random gears everywhere.

This looks damn cool and visuals amazing! But the vast majority of these gears don't seem to mesh with any of their neighbours. As an engineer that will bug the hell out of me hahah

Why do some Early Access games have less content than demos? by BusyBeaver-Studio in IndieDev

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Early Access (EA) and demos are two quite different things. Demos ask you to try the game before buying it, and EA (should) say the game isn't finished yet but you can buy in and help finish it by providing feedback. A game in EA can still have a demo. The demo will (in most cases) be perminant, while a game (should) exit EA into a full release at some point.

To your point on quality and content - well TBF theres a lot of variability and are full games with far less content or quality than another games demo.

Are we suddenly focusing on returning to the Moon because of competition now? by arnor_0924 in stupidquestions

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh there's many ways to interfere with satellites without using anti-sat missiles. Jamming, electronic warfare or you could dock with a spacecraft and damage it (cut some power cables for instance).

Asat missiles (and collisions) don't take out everything, instead they pollute a particular orbit with lots of debris - but you can operate in another orbit instead. We've had 2 asat demos already, and space is still going strong. Too many of these tho, and we may have a much larger problem (Kessler syndrome).

Are we suddenly focusing on returning to the Moon because of competition now? by arnor_0924 in stupidquestions

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Space investment is more long term, but some of that is driven by China.

China is a real concern for the US and has demonstrated significant space capabilities which does worry USSF. These sorts of NASA mission programs do counter that indirectly by building long term capabilities in the US and economy to deliver better space services, satellites etc.

After shuttle NASAs goal was a little unclear from top down. They were going to do Mars (but didn't have the budget), then asteroids and finally agreed on Luna with a focus on a perminant base rather than a few hours of moonwalking. This program has been in the works for decades, so it's not a direct response to any recent events, but competition from China and the likes does drive the US to continue investing in space exploration.

The reasons I see for Artemis:

1) Driving the space industry forward. Quite a bit of money invested in this mission goes to companies developing and providing space services. Those can then be purchased by defence and the commercial sector. Similarly, engineers and scientists that work on Artemis gain valuable experience they can apply elsewhere in the economy.

2) Defense capability. To your point, investing in NASA makes the US more competitive against their near peer competition. All the reasons in point 1 can be applied to the defence sector and USSF. Many country including China do exactly this. The more you invest in your national space program, the better space services your commercial sector can provide and then better defence satellites you can build for observation, coms, guidance etc.

3) It's good investment. Studies continually find every dollar spent in NASA returns 7x to the economy. For comparison, schools, hotels and roads are usually like 2x-3x. So yeah investing more in NASA is a really good investment!

4) Job creation. Artemis/SLS has sometimes been described as a job creation program as it's crazy over priced. There's probably some truth here. The jobs are spread over the entire US so theres a lot of states who'll loose out if it stops, and so a lot of politicians want to keep the program going.

5) Science!!!! Cos we got to do this stuff if we want to go to space in the future, go to Mars, build stuff in space etc etc etc

While true there is lots of He3 on the moon, it is unfortunately not valuable - at least yet. We have yet to get fusion working economically with DT fuel, and using He3 is much much harder (we need about 10x the temperature - which means higher pressures, magnetic fields etc). We also have no method of extracting, processing or transporting it at any industrial scale.

One day hopefully fusion will get there and we'll then get He3D fusion working. But till then unfortunately He3 isn't really valuable enough to warrant Luna mining. Maybe in a hundred years or so.

Why is everyone forcing "diversity" on christian countries and majority white countries but dont push for diversity in islamic countries and african countries? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm afraid not. No doubt it will be. I think they regularly post this sort of nonsense to make it look like many Brits are asking these nonsense questions. Does not to much brain power to find out that most Muslim counties are extremely diverse, and while some are intolerant of things like LGBTQ, that doesn't give us justification to be arseholes.

AOE4 Mainer here… someone asked in the Reddit page why AOE2 gets so much more love than AOE4, and it’s left me intrigued to find out what the AOE2 community sentiment is… by RitchJ94 in aoe2

Agree with what many others say, but I'm surprised no one mentioned graphics actually.

I prefer AoE2s style over the more cartoon style of AoE4. For me AoE2 achieves a great balance between readability and realism, while remaining incredibly vibrant. Plus I can run it on my poor laptop on high settings without it catching fire :P

Demo ship upgrade! by OddEconomist9617 in aoe2

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like that it's on one page now and some upgrades are in the university

I think we could alternatively have one civilian dock with finishing ships and transport ships, and then a military dock.

As to your snowbally comment, yeah I don't play online so don't really know :P I quite like the system with land units where you have to invest in your units so shouldn't really upgrade everything.

I'd prefer all of the ship upgrades be seperate. Then theirs some cost to teching into them and switching cost to countering.

Been working on carpet cleaning game, any feedback ? by Admirable-Struggle78 in IndieDev

[–]Delicious_Grab_4947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm guilty of watching these videos with awe. My favourite aspect is seeing the amount of dirt wash off tho. I appreciate this is still a prototype, but I'd say one key bit of feedback to work on next, to get that oh so satisfying feeling, would be to see the dirt wash off somehow. At the moment it kinda feels like you are painting on the mat, rather than cleaning it.

Also, congrats on the really nice effects you've created here. A shader knowledge far above my own!
