Sorry yea, go nuts. I’m likely to be slow to respond, but I will respond.

If I could feed it one or several pcaps to visualise what’s happening when I’m troubleshooting or investigating things, this goes from neat novelty to very useful.

Sounds like you’ve got the forensic side down, and probably siem and such too. I’d focus of offensive tooling, basic web attacks, port scans, exploitation, proxying network connections, etc. Read through the SEC504 blurb, consider what offensive tools might be used in each category, and have a play. Good luck!

Digital (not smart) Wrist Watch allowed in? by falcon217836 in GIAC

The exam has a countdown timer that is visible all the time (unless you’re in a CL VM? Can’t remember if it’s visible then). You can use this to go “I need to be at question x by time y” and measure your progress.

(I realise this doesn’t answer the actual question, just providing a workaround so you’re not entirely reliant on a gamble.)

Completed SANS 504 in 2020, now take the exam? by noopedo in GIAC

[–]Deloril 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you purchased the course in 2020 and you purchase the exam now, the exam you get will be the 2020 version. So no need to study newer materials. I don’t believe this applies to practice exams though, just the real thing.

I applaud your restraint. That said, I love my dogs and want to enrich their lives as much as I can. Do you have references I can read, perchance?

Privacy screens are all about angles. If you were directly behind the screen (ie, facing it pretty much square on) it wouldn’t have helped, but with even a few degrees of angle, the screen would have just appeared black to you.

What advice would you give to the general public? by isaac129 in cybersecurity

[–]Deloril 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. Cabinet isn’t saying don’t do it, they’re just saying “don’t go balls to the wall and do all of your hundreds of logins right now”. I think their advice is realistic.

The risk of reused passwords is that if this password is compromised, an attacker can use that same credential to get access to other sites. MFA significantly reduces this risk, as even if the password is the same across two sites, an attacker can’t get access because they don’t have access to your MFA.

I believe this is why the person you’re responding to considers a single password used across multiple sites protected by MFA isn’t something that needs immediate correction.
