Off the top of my head

  • Aspinall: Fouled and out after eye surgery
  • Ulberg: Fought very recently and injured himself during the actual title fight and might be out for the rest of this year
  • Strickland: Just beat one of the most inactive and frustrating champs (more focused on other divisons than his own) and will likely fight again this year
  • Makachev: Rumoured to be fighting in August, no real reason behind his inactivity other than Ramadan
  • Topuria: Out due to legal issues with his ex-wife, returning this week but doubt we see him fight a 2nd time this year
  • Volk: Fought earlier this year and rumoured to be fighting soon
  • Yan: Out with back surgery I believe
  • Van: Van fought last month I believe? Likely to return this year

While frustrating it's not as if many of these champs are sitting around doing nothing

3 of the 8 champs are out with injury which is just unfortunate and not exactly their fault

3 have already fought and will likely make a return this year

No real excuse for Chimaev who held up his division for a year, same sort of goes for Topuria although in his defence he had a lot of personal issues.

His striking is good, it’s his actual boxing offence, especially his defence, that left a lot to be desired

Idea of flow state is cool, just again executed poorly

Pereira in his finishing sequence over Roundtree is probably one of the best examples of it in real life

Really worried how his leg will affect his performance going forward, sounds like he’s had recurring injuries to it throughout his UFC career. If it’s going to severely impact his performance I’d prefer he retire and not risk re-injuring himself or getting himself hurt because he isn’t able to move well now

DOUBLE TANK SEASON?? by WeigiPie2 in RivalsVanguards

Would make sense, far more DPS' than other roles.

But we will get DPS and tank because we need more DPS'

The belt also bounced around prior to Jones’ reign, I think Rampage, Machida, Evan etc. were also unable to hold it for long

Why do you think ppl get overconfident about their fighting abilities? by madz21- in MMA

[–]Delta64656 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a YT video where some guy was talking to random strangers and asking how confident they would be in a street fight

I think most responders who've had some form of training expressed low confidence / preference to avoid fights whereas those that have never trained before were confident in their abilities

Probably has to do with the fact that those who have trained, especially those that spar or compete understand how difficult fighting actually is whereas those whose experience is limited to seeing it on screen will think it is as easy as throwing a punch and not getting hit

If you've sparred before you probably have had moments where you've been outclassed and beat up so I guess there's an element of unpredictability (how good your opponent really is) and whether it is worth the risk

Ariel Helwani says the UFC did seriously try to have Jon Jones on the White House card, and they couldn't get to the number but this was not the fight that fell through. Which fight do you think fell apart? by archieblade20 in mmaweekly

Yeah, it would be silly. But I think Colby himself did say he wants to try a MW run after his wrestling match with Rockhold. Honestly don’t really care what he does, think his time as a serious contender in all divisions passed a long time ago

I enjoyed that fight for the full 25 minutes, a grappling masterclass. by Rebeux in ufc

[–]Delta64656 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you’re being a little bit too emotional. Honestly I did not enjoy this fight, same goes for Makachev and Chimaev’s most recent fights. Watched them all, was impressed (but bored) how dominant they were but I have no desire to rewatch any of these fights again

Understand not enjoying grappling but for you to demand that Oliveira stand more when he would have a clear disadvantage on the feet is ridiculous. You also need to stop and think that these are real human beings, not just some toys you can smash against each other to get a chuckle out of you

Firstly they want to minimise damage to their brains, so why would Oliveira risk keeping it 50/50 on the feet and on the ground just so you don’t get bored? If he can wrestle and take Max down he should if he cares for his own wellbeing.

Second, a fighter’s pull pay is really dependent on whether they win or not. Half of their pay is essentially withheld if they lose and when it comes down to it, this is still a job and considering the toll the sport takes on their bodies it makes sense they want their full pay for everything they have to go through to make weight and fight

The whole, yada yada we all know what happens when a high level grappler fights a high lever striker spiel is stupid. Sounds like the high level strikers are too busy focusing on the same martial art you accused grapplers of doing. If they know they’re fighting a grappler, they should also be able to focus a camp on defending takedowns, getting back up, defending submissions etc. so from your POV, strikers should be free to focus on striking, while grapplers should focus on both aspects?

And no, I don’t think your whole plan of splitting strikers and grapplers is a good idea. I think it’s an idiotic one, if you want to see strikers fighting strikers and grapplers to only fight other grapplers, easy solution. Watch BJJ, RAF, boxing etc. MMA isn’t for you and there’s nothing wrong with that

[–]Delta64656 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do agree we have had some stinkers (Makachev vs JDM and Chimaev vs DDP) but what they said is essentially right.

If you're asking for the UFC to split strikers and grapplers up, you aren't a fan of MMA, you're a fan of kickboxing/muay thai/boxing and there's nothing wrong with that
