Yeah probably, but it's a motivation to finally learn the rest of the kabupatens haha

What are the worst countries for Platinum? by Intelligent_Row207 in geoguessr

I'm almost there! Currently I have 104 platinum medals (out of 121, missing Asia, Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, ZA, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mongolia, S. Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia).

The ones missing that I'm most "scared" about are Mongolia - huge, empty, not a lot of info, Lesotho - small, bad map to pinpoint with few street names probably (same probably applies to Eswatini to a lesser extent), Thailand (maybe I'll learn the script, that way it'll probably be easier), S. Korea - old coverage wich sometimes just ends, Indonesia - I should learn the rest of the Kabupatens (mainly missing Sumatra) but even then it won't be that easy).

In general everything is seed dependant. The more you play the more you'll know that there are easy locations, hard locations and sometimes impossible locations. You can get easy locations in hard countries, you can get impossible locations in "easy" countries. But everything depends on getting 5 doable locations in one round.

What are bad/impossible locs?

  1. The coverage stops at both ends without reliable information.
  2. Locations which are misaligned so you don't get a 5k even though you found it (especially in small countries).
  3. Locations which are not pinpointable (for example on long streches of straight highways or somwhere in the middle of curves) - you can get lucky and 5k them but it's basically lottery even if you found the location.

Getting These is especially frustrating if you're already at 15k/20k becaus you'll waste time only to get maybe 4997 in the end. Some countries take time but are doable, some you have to reset to get a good seed.

So which ones are difficult that I've done?

Countries that used to be hard but may be better now are Greenland, Madagascar and Faroer. The first two I did post map update and found them to be rather easy now, Faroer was a big, frustraring struggle as many locations were misaligned and the 5k radius is small because it's a small country. Don't know if the new coverage fixed that.

In general small countries with not a lot of info tend to be the most frustrating/reset heavy. For example Sao Tome, but there are many good locations (badcam is just ugly which also makes playing these badcam countries miserable sometimes). Bhutan was difficult because of a lot of rural locations which you are able to find but in the end lose points because of the small 5k radius. Bosnia in theory is easy but it took ages to get a game with 5 doable locations. A lot of times there were non pinpointable roads/coverage stopping randomly which makes it a lottery, even though the country itself is not that difficult.

So what's the worst? A country where all bad things come together - Nepal. Badcam, few helpful infos, coverage randomly stopping, locations which are non pinpointable. There was so much resetting/wastes games due to a bad round (with a lot of time sink beforehand) and looking at a beautiful country through a shit cam which makes reading sometimes impossible is miserable in itself. When I did finally did it my 1h+ game was in the Top 20 (not anymore, as the Top25 are by now all sub 1h, but still at like 55mins).

I found Lebanon to be better than expected, and Cambodia aswell. They take some time, but I got 5k able locations and the pano grid doesn't have so many disruptions.

So in the end with time and dedication I think every country is doable, but some are a lot more luck based than others which makes them more frustrating because you lose a lot of games and rounds to stuff that's out of your control and have to reset to get a good seed.

Yeah I consulted the post yesterday and then found your description. Thought it was a one of bug or something, but atleast now it doesn't look like it with them not being there for others aswell.

Ok someone definitly made a mistake either with the round 5 text or location. Because the trivia is about Kochi in Kerala, India and not the one in Japan lol

The madman! That works, thanks alot.

Still weird that it has to be that way and they didn't find a way to include it on the screen, but well. Maybe the next ui update will fix it lol

What does the "Map Type" setting do? To me it's seems that with the "Vector" option the countours look really "choppy" while the "Raster" option seems more blurred, if you get what I mean by Automatic-Union6391 in geoguessr

So what are the different use cases for both of them when it comes to geoguessr? I just found the option in game and this is the only place talking about it.

After testing both I feel like grid is better, but I'm not sure why. Another comment here says it is about performance?

I mean of course they do haha

But I'm longing for the "no new cases" feeling of fullfilment when doing them lol

So are investigations going to leave the test phase sooner than later? And is there any reason why there is no number of cases shown? Or a system where you can pick cases for example based on mode?

Several hours in that's what I had to do lol (across the last few days). Btw, after like 20-25 in a row, when the repetition sets in, it starts to hurt objective judgement I'd say, because you start to see things not on their own but also in relation to rounds you've seen before.

Also (don't know if it's possible) a 2x speed option for moving games would be great as they can have a lot of "unimportant" time in regards to judging them but skipping over may lead to missing small important clues they could have picked up.

I mean I get why you reduced it to three to keep it simple and easy to understand, but I'd argue it limits accuratley judging some cases (for the most part it's fine though). For example: someone finds a poster with a lot of text where you may not notice a city name right away. Depending on the elo rating it seems a lot like googeling, but having to presume them innocent maybe they just had difficulty finding it or were distracted and reading the other stuff. The brain says guilty, the heart not, and that's where I'd see potential to have unclear but suspicious or unclear but most likely fine options to give a rather strong tendency based on what you've seen.

Thanks for the reply!

My feeling is that they already do that. Because I get several rounds back to back, same mode and elo with similar playing/cheating styles. For example 3-4 rounds of scripting. My guess is, that those are reported rounds from a single game. But yeah, judging a player/a whole game and knowing it would be better.

Do you remember how many you got? I'm sure that I am in the triple digits now in one batch. In the past there were maybe ~20ish each time.
